Everything was a mess. He looked around to find what was taken. None of his valuables were missing, but there was something very valuable that wasn’t there. Rupert was nowhere to be found. “No! This can’t be happening!”
The first thing he did was call the police. They asked him if he might’ve left the door open a little bit. They said he might’ve gotten out on his own that way and run away. He told them there was no way. He was sure it was locked. Then they asked him if he could think of anyone that might have something against him or his dog. In that instant he knew. Everett took him. He certainly would have something to gain if Matt lost Rupert. Matt told them his suspicion and gave them Everett’s address.
A minute later he was in his car on his way to Everett’s house.
