“I feel like a stalker,” I thought as I walked along the street, about ten yards behind Leigha Jameson.
Leigha was an absolutely gorgeous girl. I swear, any guy that could have ever laid their eyes to hers, would be instantly attracted. Every guy that knew her, loved her. Every girl envied her, and only wished they were more like her, she was like their personal Barbie. With light, bronze, flawless hair, and soft, blue eyes, Leigha could blow away anyone's mind. Her perfect olive complexion always completed her stunning, designer labeled outfit. To top it off, her behavior, and her way of looking at things was absolutely adorable, her personality was just incredibly appealing. Many people would have called her perfect, I being one of them.
Leigha walked across the street, to the rich suburbs of town, which is where she lived. I followed, staying in the shadows, as she was getting closer to her house, with each step she took. I proceeded to follow, hiding behind cars and walls whenever I could. As soon as she reached her house, I saw my friend, Matt Clarkson, sitting in his car across the street, watching me. Leigha went into her house, and I ran around to the back, looking into windows, searching for Leigha. Jumping up, I looked into a small window, which was the bathroom. Before I continued searching into windows, I jumped and looked one last time into the bathroom window, sure enough to find Leigha just entering.
I decided to give Leigha a little bit of privacy, as I waited to hear any sound. Only after a minute I heard a toilet flush, and I looked back through the window. Leigha was washing her hands, and then moved on to her face. When she dried her face with the towel, she was facing me; hopefully she could not see that I was there. For her not having any makeup on, she was still the most beautiful girl I have ever come across. Leigha quickly put on her mascara, eye liner, blush, and lip gloss and then moved on to fix her hair. She turned on her flat iron and only waited for at least five seconds until she picked it up and started straightening. In no time at all she was finished.
Leigha left the bathroom, turning off the light. I walked to the next window, and looked in, finding a dark pink and red room. Leigha walked in with immense grace. She walked into her closet, which from how much I could see, was about half the size of her room. When she came out, she was wearing a short jean skirt, and only a black tank top, carrying an Abercrombie and Fitch shirt. While she was putting it on, I started to hear rustling all around me, realizing that it was Matt, I turned around and gave him a very puzzled look.
“Ben, someone just parked in front of Leigha’s house. It’s some scary looking guy.”
“What are they doing in front of her house?” I asked Matt.
“I don’t know, but the last time I looked, he was walking to the front door.”
“Well, what the heck, let’s go look and see what he’s doing,” I said while cautiously walking towards the front of her house, while Matt followed behind.
Looking from behind bushes, Matt and I watched as the man approached the front door, lightly knocking. While he was waiting for Leigha to answer the door, he just scoped out the neighborhood, looking for any sign of movement. When Leigha answered the door, the man starting speaking, “Hello Leigha.”
“What are you doing here, Cliff?” Leigha said in an utterly upset voice, but yet still sounding magnificent.
“Cliff? What kind of a name is that?” Matt pronounced, “I would rather be named Butch or something else.”
“I’ll just keep my name, I’m pretty sure I like it the way it is.” I replied. Cliff; he was tall, dark, and definitely handsome, but with a strange twist. He looked as if he had just killed someone, and he has that sense of mystery, buried within his deep, dark eyes.
Cliff walked into the house, very abruptly and unexpectedly. He then turned around, quickly studied the neighborhood one last time, and gently closed the front door.
Buzz. Buzz. “Oh crap,” Matt whispered while whipping out his phone, “Dang, it’s my mom. Hello?”
“Matthew Gerald Clarkson! Where in the world are you? You were supposed to be home for dinner with your sister’s new fiancé.”
“Wow mom, just calm down. I’m coming home right now!” Matt whispered loudly back and then hung up the phone. “Well, I have to go. Don’t stop now because it’s just starting to get interesting, besides we can’t back out now, it’s too late.”
Matt walked away, back to his car. He revved up the engine and sped away. I snuck back to where I was, and looked into her room window, only finding it empty. I was walking around, glancing into the windows until I found myself in the backyard. Leigha’s backyard looked like it belonged on the front of a gardening magazine; covered in green vegetation; her backyard could have been placed in Hawaii and it would fit in exceedingly well. With a waterfall dumping into an effervescent pool, and a sand covered volleyball court, it all looked so inviting.
I wandered myself to her back porch, making sure I was unseen from any windows. Out of all of the sounds of nature, I could pick out Leigha and Cliff’s voices, which sounded very far away. I peered into the closest window, seeing the two arguing, over something. After studying Leigha’s face, I could tell she was about to cry, and Cliff’s face, showed that it was his fault for her about to cry.
I could not see what the two were fighting about, so I curiously opened the window slowly and quietly. Neither of them noticed the sudden change from the window.
“What do you mean you killed my dad? You’ve already caused enough freaking pain and misery in our family!” Leigha finally started crying, turning away from Cliff.
“Leigha, please, just listen to me! I love Andrea; your dad was simply in the way. Now that he is dead, there is no reason your mother wouldn’t come back to me. You and I both know that she already has come to me, so why would she not now?”
Heavily crying, Leigha started to calm herself down, “Just because you say you love my mom doesn’t mean you really do. You’re a filthy animal that is just after her money, just like your brother.”
“What? I doubt that you even know my brother, and how would he know someone as wonderful as your mother?” Cliff harshly replied.
“Actually, my mom told me this herself. She said that Kent, your brother, asked her if she would marry him, it was right before my parents had met. My mom said no, and Kent was furious about it. On my parents’ wedding night, he crashed the reception party and tried to kill my dad. My mom had to tell him that if he really loved her, he wouldn’t do that to her. Then Kent apologized and left.” Leigha explained.
“Well, I guess he did know Andrea, but he doesn’t have a chance with her now that she is going to turn to me.”
“My mom would never turn to a man like you. I bet she would rather die alone.”
Cliff dashed across the room and slapped Leigha’s right cheek. I was horrified of the sight, so I decided get off of Leigha’s back porch and hide behind some tall vegetation. I couldn’t hear the voices anymore, but I heard a door slam, and footsteps running close by. Looking through a bush, I saw that it was Leigha. She ran around to where I was hiding.
I looked at her face; her cheek was red and a little trace of blood was on her lip. Tears were streaming down her face, when her eyes met with mine; she gave me a surprised look and then whispered while taking my hand, “Come with me.”
I couldn’t think of a reason to disagree and I followed her through the vegetation. Leigha led me to a big rock, which was probably where the waterfall was. She pushed through a thick bush to uncover a door. She pulled on the door handle to try and open it, failing, she looked at me. I understood that she wanted me to open the door, so I pulled with great strength until the door finally budged and flew open.
We both entered and I shut the door, making sure the bush still covered the door well. It was dark and humid inside of the rock. I heard the water from outside falling into the pool. Leigha was feeling the wall, trying to find a light switch, when she did, she turned it on. The interior of the rock looked like it was a small apartment, with a kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom.
Leigha walked over to the couch, “Come and sit.” I walked over to the couch and sat down next to her.
“What are you doing here, Ben?” She asked while whipping tears from her eyes.
“I can’t tell you right now, but when I can, I will. I’m surprised that you even know my name.”
“Okay. Why would I not know your name?”
“Well, for starters I’m not popular and you are; not that many people know me.”
“Ben Iverson, you may not know this, but I know a lot of people that know you. People look up to you for being so trustworthy and nice; actually, there are quite a few girls I know that like you because of it, and the fact that you are handsome helps. So for my starters, you are popular.” Leigha seems to always make anyone feel better about themselves, even when she should only be caring for herself.
“Thanks Leigha, but are you alright?”
“Yeah, I’m just fine.” Leigha trailed off, looking towards the ground.
I may not be the smartest guy, but I know that usually when a girl says that they are fine, they really aren’t. “No Leigha, you’re not.” I calmly stated to her while touching her hand for comfort.
Leigha started crying again, I should have just let her get away with hiding her feelings.
“You’re right. Wait. How much do you know?”
Embarrassed and turning red, I told her what I had heard. “When Cliff slapped you, I couldn’t take how much disrespect he had treated you with, when you deserve to have a great amount of respect. After I saw him slap you, I just ran, to where you found me.” My eyes started to water. Leigha noticed, and whipped my tears away for me, with the gentle touch.
“So I guess you don’t know that Kurt, his brother broke into our house last night. I was in my parents’ bathroom, and my mom was in bed watching television. My dad wasn’t home from work yet, so it was just my mom and I. Kurt came into the bedroom and he was pointing a gun at her. Then he said, ‘I can’t stand you being with someone other than me anymore. Goodbye.’ After that I closed my eyes shut, and I heard the sound of the pulled trigger. I didn’t dare open my eyes or make a sound, so I just hid, trying not to cry. After maybe an hour, I opened my eyes and I saw Kurt was gone. I looked up at my mom, and there was blood everywhere. She was dead. I didn’t call the police like I should have though, I called my dad, and he said he would leave work right then to come and help,” Tears started pouring from her eyes, “That night, he never came home. Now I know why.”
I found myself softly crying with her. Leigha put her arms around me and hid her face on my shoulder, crying. I could feel her unsteady breath. I sat and comforted her for what felt like an hour, until she looked up at me and continued.
“Cliff met my mom after she was married. I don’t know that much about him, but I do know was that my mom cheated on my dad with Cliff. Since the very beginning, I really haven’t liked him. My mom told me that he practically forced her to, well you know. But now, I just don’t know what to do, I don’t have any parents, and I haven’t seen or heard from any of my relatives for at least five years.” Her tears started coming down again. I whipped them away gently. “Sorry I’m loading all of this on you, it’s just that you’re here and no one else is, and since you already knew most of it, I thought I should have just finished it.”
“Don’t worry about it; I’ll be here for you.”
“Do you want anything to eat?” Leigha asked me as she got up and walked over to the kitchen area.
“No thanks.” I replied.
“Are you sure? There’s a yummy chocolate pie in here. It’s too big for just me to eat it, come and help me.”
“Well, I don’t know.”
Leigha looked at me with big eyes and an irresistible pout on her bottom lip, “Pretty please?”
“Okay, fine, you got me.”
“He he, that took long enough.” She said while taking the chocolate pie out of the fridge.
Leigha got out two forks and sat back down on the couch, handing one to me. Together we ate the pie, talking about school and friends. Her best friend’s name was Kaybree. I knew who she was, but I didn’t know that much about her. I told her that my best friend was Matt Clarkson. She said she saw him parked outside of her house earlier that day, I told her it was my fault. When there was only one more small piece of pie, I put it on my fork and moved it closer to my mouth.
“What do you think your doing, Mister Iverson?” She flirtingly asked while moving my fork to her mouth, where she ate the last bite.
“Hey, maybe I was going to eat that.”
“But I wanted it, so I got it and I ate it.”
“How come girls always stay so skinny?”
“I don’t know, all I know is that for our size, we eat a lot of food.”
“Well, isn’t that ironic?” I teasingly asked.
“Yeah, I guess it is. Do you know what time it is?”
I looked at my watch. “It’s Eleven Fifteen.”
“Alright, good, it’s late enough. Will you help me get all of my things packed?”
“Yeah, sounds fun.”
“Good.” She said as grabbing my hand and pulling me to a door. When she opened it, inside was a narrow tunnel. “This leads into our cellar, when we are in there, don’t say a word, because Cliff might still be here.”
Leigha led me through the tunnel until we got to a dark room, which was the cellar. She crept to the wall and found two flashlights, handing one to me. We climbed the stairs and quietly entered her kitchen. “Go check out front and see if Cliff’s car is here.” She whispered to me.
I snuck down the hall towards the giant oak door; I looked out the window in the front room, finding no car there. Before I went back to Leigha, I checked to make sure that the front door was locked, which is wasn’t so I gladly locked it. I walked back to Leigha and we walked to her bedroom. She turned on her light and went in her closet and got some suit cases out. “Will you put all of my shoes in this one?” She asked while holding up a big, brown bag.
“Sure.” I grabbed as many shoes from her shoe rack as I could fit in my arms and put them in the bag and continued until all of her shoes were inside.
Leigha came out of her closet with a huge pile of clothes and folded them all in one suit case. She did this until her entire wardrobe was inside of a few giant bags. She then grabbed the last suit case and started walking out of her room, “Stay in here.” She whispered.
I guessed that she went into the bathroom to get her make-up, hair stuff, and personal items. When she came back into the room, she said, “Are you ready to go?”
“Yeah, I think so, but-” Leigha cut me off and put her finger on my lips.
“Shh, that’s for me to know.” Leigha leaned in and softly put her lips against mine. After a few short seconds, she pulled away and grabbed a few bags. I picked up the rest and followed her; dazed that she had just kissed me.
Leigha walked into her garage and subsequently I followed. There before us, was a blue Porsche. Leigha then popped open the trunk and started stuffing bags and suitcases inside. I then put the rest inside while she got her keys out of her purse. I closed the trunk, and we both got inside of the car, Leigha opened the garage, and carefully backed out onto the long driveway. While entering onto the street, Leigha closed the garage. As we drove further and further away from her house, Leigha suddenly said, “would your parents let me stay with you for a while?”
“Well, my mom lives in San Diego California, but I bet she would let you.”
“What about your dad?”
“He lives here, but he is very unpredictable. Just hope that he’s in a good mood and we’ll see what he says.”
At this, I gave Leigha directions to my house. When we pulled up to the side of the house, I saw that every light in my house appeared to be on.
Just as I had suspected, right when I got out of the car, my dad burst through the front door with a worried expression on his face, “Benjamin Iverson! Where have you been? Why didn’t you call? I’ve been worried-“ he cut himself off when Leigha emerged from the car. “Oh, why hello! I’m Ben’s dad, Mark. Oh please come in!”
A little flustered, Leigha came inside, and I followed.
“Come, sit.” Dad still seemed worried, but I could tell that he was somewhat struck from Leigha’s appearance, “So, what were you two doing?”
I began to tell him, when Leigha suddenly burst into tears. She told him enough of the situation of ours that he invited her to stay as long as she needed to.
“Ben lets go get her stuff, and Leigha, please make yourself at home.” Dad was overdoing it by quite a lot. As we were walking, I could barely in the distance hear Leigha say thank you.
“So… she seems pretty nice.” Dad tried to start a conversation.
“She is.”
While I opened the trunk, dad started up another conversation, but this one was very uncomfortable. “You guys didn’t, well; get it on, did you?”
“Dad No!” at this, enough was said.
“Okay, I was just making sure...”
We brought in all of Leigha’s things and my dad went and cleaned out the garage enough for another car to fit. After, he parked her Porsche and came back inside, “That’s some car.”
“Oh, thank you.” Leigha gave my dad a forced smile, but for all I could tell, dad had no idea it was forced.
I brought up all Leigha’s things to our guest room. Leigha came in a moment later, and sat on the edge of the bed. After emptying my arms of luggage, I sat next to her.
“So what were you two talking about outside?”
I was a little shocked from her sudden question, but I answered, as much as I didn’t want to,” My dad asked me if we, well, had sex.”
“Don’t worry about it, it’s a fatherly thing to ask, that just means he cares about you.” Leigha didn’t seem surprised at what dad had asked at all, “I’ve been asked that before too.”
“So, why were you in my backyard exactly?”
“I cant’ tell you yet, I’m sorry.”
Leigha looked a little disappointed, but removed it by saying, ”But you will tell me, right?”
“Yes, I will as soon as I can.”
“Well, thanks for being in my backyard or I wouldn’t have known what to do.”
“It’s no problem, I’m glad I was there.”
“Me too and thanks for letting me stay here.”
“You’re very welcome Leigha.”
Dad came in and lightly knocked on the door, “It’s three in the morning, just so you know. When do you guys plan on going to bed?”
“Well, it is Friday night, dad.”
“Oh, right. Well if you want to go anywhere, then take Ben’s car, just in case that guy is looking for the Porsche.”
“Alright dad sounds good.”
“Thanks Mister Iverson.”
“Oh, Leigha, you can call me Mark.”
“Okay then, Mark.”
“Well, I’m going to bed, don’t have too much fun, and don’t get arrested.” Dad walked away towards his bedroom.
“Well, what do you want to do?”
“It’s kind of limited; it mostly depends on what’s open all night.”
“True, we can always go to Wal-Mart.”
“But what would we buy?”
“Whatever we want I guess.”
Leigha took awhile to say something, but when she did, I was shocked, “Are you good at cooking?”
“I’m somewhat a good cook, but what would we make?”
“We could make anything we want. Let’s go and buy a cook book and then make something in it.”
“Okay.” I said while getting off of Leigha’s temporary bed. I walked down the hall and into my room. I changed my shirt and my shoes, sprayed on cologne, and went downstairs. I went into the kitchen and pulled off the list of things we needed to get. “I might as well get these while we’re there” I thought.
After another few minutes, Leigha descended down the stairs wearing orange sweats and a white shirt and matching shoes. “You look great.” I complemented her, while catching a sent of something somewhat fruity perfume.
“Thank you. You look pretty handsome yourself.” Leigha was very good at being sincere, “and you smell good, too.”
“Thanks” I said while hoping I didn’t put on too much cologne.
We walked to the garage, which now had two cars inside.
