Getting Into You |

Getting Into You
|
(This is based on a true story, names changed)
It was Friday afternoon and Jessie kneeled down and planted her hands on her knees. The gravel beneath her cleats clutched the ground and she waited anxiously as the pitcher and her best friend, Amanda, wound up. It was the 6th inning and the third pitch and her team was down by 2. This pitch could be the one to turn the game around.
The softball sliced through the hazy May air and a loud clunk issued from the bat as it switched directions. Groundball to her at third base. Easy out. Jessie hustled for it and it bounced into her glove. She pulled her arm back and threw it all the way to first base, right into Kayla's glove. Kayla tapped the runner, just for the sake of it, and the team cheered.
Jessie looked up into the stands to see her mom cheering and yelling for her. She smiled happily, so glad to have a loving mother.
Suddenly the light faded from her mom's face, and she crumpled to the ground, holding her head and screaming in pain. Jessie couldn't move. She watched in terror as parents all around checked her mother's heartbeat and called ambulance and hospital. It was all a blur. Her mom was carried out on a stretcher, nurses yelling orders and putting her in the ambulance. Jessie felt her teamates pushing her into the ambulance. Ashley held her hand and kept telling her it was okay the whole way to the hospital.
-A few hours later-
"Your mother has had an anuerysm burst in her brain," the doctor announced to Jessie and her father, solemnly scribbling notes on his clipboard. "She has about a 5% chance of recovery."
Jessie was too numb to cry. How could this have happened? Her mother was fine just this afternoon, and now she was going to die. She touched her mother's arm, and wondered hopelessly if she could feel anything, or if she was too far away to notice.
Word got out around the city, and every church in the area added Jessie's mother to their prayer lists.
Jessie's family had never gone to church before, they didn't really know God, but they thanked the pastors and hoped that maybe, just maybe a miracle could come for them.
Saturday was the longest day of Jessie's life. She sat in the hospital hour after hour, watching her mother wasting away before her eyes. Her father finally brought her home, and there Jessie cried until no tears were left.
Sunday morning, she had almost completely lost hope. She thought about all the people in church that day, and all the prayers they were giving for her mother.
At about noon that day, the hospital called and told Jessie's father that her mother's vital signs were all at the normal level, and she seemed to be coming out of her coma. Jessie and her father rushed to the hospital and saw her lying on the bed, her eyes open. She stumbled on words for a second, but then began talking as if nothing had ever happened.
"Jessie, I love you," her mother said, smiling weakly.
"Mom!" Jessie cried, laughing in extacy.
Her mother beat the odds, overcoming a 95% chance of death, thanks to all the people that prayed for her, and most of all thanks to God. She is blind in one eye, and occasionally comes over with severe mood changes, but she is alive.
This incredible miracle brought Jessie, her mother, and her father all to God.
Miracles aren't just stories of the Bible, miracles are happening every day if you only take notice.
