Til Death Do Us Part

"Why do you have to go now? Can't you wait til tomorrow? Just one more day?" Lex asked beggingly.

"No baby, come on I have to go... My mom's gonna kill me if I'm any more late. I really gotta go," Grant replied with a sigh, "It's ok. It's only a couple days, I'll be back for school Tuesday."

She hesitantly let go of him and watched climb into is red Nissan, and pull out of her driveway.

She took a deep breath and walked back into her house. As she passed through the foyer she noticed Grant had left his hat hanging on the coat rack. She giggled to herself and snatched it off the hook.

He's totally not getting this back, she thought to herself.

"Honey?" Lex's father, James yelled from her kitchen, "come on and eat, I got dinner ready!"

"Ok," she replied, "I'll be there in a minute."

She walked up the twelve stairs that led to her room on the second floor. She walked into the small, homely room carefully. She stepped around clothes, books, magazines, and other various items to get to her closet. She reached up to the highest shelf, and placed the hat just far back enough to where you couldn't see it. She smiled to herself, and ran down the stairs to eat.

"Do you have everything you need?" Grant's mother, Alice asked him.

"Uh, yea," he replied, "So what's his new wife's name again? He told me once I think, but I don't really remember."

"It's Christa I'm pretty sure. Maybe Christine. I'm not sure. She's got her entire family there..... don't mess with them. Just let your father be happy just this once, got it?"

He rolled his eyes, "Yes mom I got it. Can we go now?"

They left in Alice's Dodge minivan toward Chicago's O'Hare airport.

Grant was suddenly awaken by a tap on the shoulder....

"Sir? We're arriving in Los Angeles now. Just waking you up," said a young flight attendant standing over him.

"Uh, thanks I guess," he replied.

She smiled and walked away.

Grant glanced out the window of the plane. He was amazed by the view he had of the city. He relaxed and waited for the plane to land.

Twenty minutes later he was walking into the terminal of the airport in search of his father. He wasn't really sure what to look for... he hadn't seen him in five years, and a lot can change in five years.

"Grant?" said a familiar voice coming from behind him.

Grant turned and took in the sight..... His father had shrunk significantly. Last time he saw him he was overweight and unhealthy, but now he was almost the same size as his son. His hair was the same... short and way too choppy, and he still wore those dorky glasses.

Next to him was a women of about the same age. Her hair was long, brown, and tied back into a loose ponytail. His father wore jeans and a dirty white t-shirt, and his wife wore jeans and an oversized pink hooded sweatshirt.

"Hey dad," Grant said quietly.

"This is my wife, Christa. And this is her daughter, Stephanie, and her friend, Lindsey," he replied.

From behind Christa stepped two girls. They were both about the same age as Grant. Stephanie looked a lot like her mom, except a little bit heavier, and a great deal shorter. She wore sweatpants and a blue sweater that hugged her 'curves' way too tightly.

The girl next to her, Lindsey, was on the other hand, very attractive. She had pin straight blonde hair that fell loosely just below her shoulders. Her eyes were the brightest blue Grant had ever seen. Her smile was bright and highlighted by overused lip gloss. She wore tight low rising jeans and a blue v-neck shirt that said SEXY in big letters across the front.

"Hey whats up?" said Stephanie and Lindsey simueltaneously.

They both busted into giggles as if they'd just experience the most funny thing to ever take place in the history of the Earth.

"Come on, girls," said Christa, "We have to get home."

In the half hour drive to his father's house, he aquainted himself with Lindsey and Stephanie [who preferred to be called Steph]. He decided he was no longer dreading the weekend.
