It's Different Now [1]

“Hello Leigh. Olivia is in her room getting into her dress. Tell her we have to leave in ten minutes.” Jen greeted me.

“Yes Mrs. Vernon.” I agreed and quickly walked to Olivia’s room before she could talk to me again. I opened her bedroom door and stepped inside.

“Leigh! Help me with the zipper!” She ordered immediately. I rushed over to her and pulled the zipper up. “Thank you for helping me even though I didn’t go to your sweet sixteen.. I just want everything to be perfect today.”

“I know. Oh, we have to leave in---seven minutes.” I said as I looked at my cell phone for the time.

“Leigh, I am going to tell you something but you cant tell anyone, not even Dan because he thought I was joking about it.” She told me as she leaned down to get something out of her purse. “Dan and I are going to lose our virginity tonight.” She informed me.

“That’s great.” I chirped, appearing nonchalant about the situation. She wrapped me in a hug.

“We better go. We don’t want to leave the guys waiting.” She chimed and stalked out her of her room. I took a deep breathe and followed her. Olivia had been preparing for this since her tenth birthday(she is obsessive about that kind of stuff). When we got to the venue that she was holding her party I had to help the planners with the decorations. I saw Dan(Olivia’s boyfriend) strutting over to me.

“Hey Leigh. Where’s Olivia?” He asked awkwardly.

“She is backstage waiting for her big appearance. Listen, I know it’s none of my business but do you know she is planning on having sex with you later?” I inquired.

“Yeah, she told me that we were going to lose our virginity together. I don’t know if I can go through it though.” He said and put his hand on top of mine.

“I cant do this, Dan, if she knew about what we did then I wouldn’t be forgiven. Maybe it’s best we don’t talk---ever.” I mumbled and paraded over to my boyfriend, Brett, who just walked in.

“Why the hell were you talking to him?” He asked me as I poured myself a glass of punch.

“I can talk to whoever I want.” I said rudely.

“Not to him. I forgave you once, I wont be able to do it again. Leigh I love you but I wont put up with cheating.” He said and walked towards a couple of guys on the football team. I searched the room for anyone I knew but everyone was conversing with someone already. I ran out of the door and out to the parking lot where I climbed in my car and started crying. I heard a knock on the window and saw Dan. He opened the door and slid inside.

“You shouldn’t be in here, if Olivia saw us-”

“She wouldn’t know what was going on.” He finished my sentence. “I have been giving her hints for weeks that I am not happy with her but she wont accept it. Leigh, what happened at your birthday, I am happy it was with you and not Olivia. I am completely in love with you.” He confessed as he grabbed my hand. I opened the door and got out. I ran into the building and found Olivia.

“Hey Leigh, Why do you look like you’ve been running? Forget that, is everyone here?” She asked.

“Yeah, I think so. Liv, if I did something horrible would you forgive me?” I asked.

“Depends on what is was. If it was you that broke my Ipod I’d forgive you but if you did something unforgivable like…sleep with Dan, I couldn’t forgive you. But I know you’d never do that to me.” She said and walked out of the room. I plopped down on a chair and held my face in my hands.

“She really needs to get to know you better. Maybe then she wont be oblivious to the fact her boyfriend and best friend are in love with each other.” Brett said as he appeared in the doorway.

“I’m not-”

“Save it. I see the way you look at him and it is nothing like how you look at me. Just tell me one thing, did you lose your virginity to me or him?” He asked uncertainly.

“Him.” I said and with that one word he walked out of the room. I let a few more tears fall before washing my face and reapplying my make-up. I walked out of the room and over to Brett.

“Was that you breaking up with me or just another fight?” I asked him.

“I would never break up with you. You have to choose first, me or him? Me or hurting and losing your best friend?” He said manipulatively.

“You.” I said miserably.
