Crystal stood infront of a half dozen people awkwardly. Half she knew, the other hald she didn't. They stood, staring at her in complete awe.
"Do you really like it?" She questioned softly. A few 'It is beautiful's and 'you look gorgeous's flooded from there lips. She nodded slightly.
"All right. Now if you could just take it off, we'll get it packaged up and move on to the bride's maid's dresses." The dress maker stated as her assistants helped Crystal removed her dress.
"Its wonderful to see you back in the wedding spirits!" Sara smiled.
"Yes, well with it being only a week away, I kind of don't have much of a choice." Crystal replied.
"You are at least exited?" Shelby questioned.
"Of course, I just don't think it will help to get stressed out over it."
"Have you two decided if a marital vacation is in order?" Sara asked with a smile.
"I don't know. I mean it would be nice to get away for a while, but he's just so busy with work. I'd hate for him to leave it all a mess." Crystal replied.
"Well honey, you're going to be his wife, you're suppose to be demanding!" Erica stated.
"Is that how you keep Jason so tame?" Shelby questioned with a slight laugh. Erica glared at her slightly.
"What is that suppose to mean?" Erica asked. Shelby shrugged.
"Nothing. I had just happen to have noticed the lack of communication and affection between the two of you as of late." She stated.
"Shelby!" Crystal scorned. "You don't make assumptions like that and especially don't bring them up without being prompt to!"
"I'm sorry. I just thought we were all being honest with each other. That's what 'girlfriends' do, right?" She questioned.
"Yes, dear. However, claiming someone's marriage is failing isn't appropriate talk." Sara chimed.
"I meant nothing by it, I assure you."
"Its okay. You are right. Things aren't going as well as they should." Erica sighed. "He's rather distant. I think he may be having an affair."
"Jason?" Sara exclaimed questionably.
"Commiting adultry is definately something I can't imagine Jason would do!" Crystal stated. Erica nodded.
"I thought the same. But I found this bracelet in out bed and I know it is not mine." Erica stated. Crystal looked over at shelby who was now trying on her dress. It seemed as though she was completely ignoring the conversation. Almost as if she just accomplished something.
"Shel... Have you seen or noticed anyone around the house that shouldn't be?" Crystal asked.
"Can't say that I have. But then again, if he was cheating, why would he bring her around while I was still there?" She asked with a laugh.
"Yes. Yes I suppose you are right." Crystal stated softly.
"Its probably nothing anyway. I couldn't imagine Jason doing such a thing." Shelby began with a smile. "He's such a mouse, hardly a rat. Besides, he does love you so."
"You're right. I'm probably worrying over nothing." Erica sighed as the semstress examined the length of her dress.
Crystal stared at them unsure of what to think. Not about the dresses but about thier behavior. Erica never just 'let it go' when someone questioned her lover affairs. And she didn't seem to really care all that much on the subject of Jason's possible affair. And Shelby. Why would she bring up the change in the relationship and then deny therre was something wrong.
This ended up being something that bothered her all day. And as evening fell upon them, it still sizzled at her brain. She sat at the vanity in the room as Justin waltzed in from working in his office.
"Still awake?" He questioned with a smile.
"Cloudy thoughts..." she sighed.
"This came today." He handed her a letter from Troy.
"From Troy?" She looked puzzled. Justin nodded.
"Apparently, he had decided to go back to school. Finish out his credits."
"Shelby never mentioned he had left." Crystal looked up at Justin. "A month ago she would have cried for a week if he left."
"Its a bit stranger really. The letter itself seems a bit distant and mondane." Justin replied as he dressed for bed.
"She has been acting a bit strange as well." Crystal made her way over to the bed.
"What do you mean?"
"Today, at the dressings, she spoke of a changed in Erica and Jason's marriage and then later on, denied any sense of a possible problem." Crystal stated. Justin nodded.
"Maybe, she was poking fun. You know her sense of himore."
"I think there's more to it." She spoke gently.
"Like what?"
"Troy leaving and her not saying anything. That in itself screams of issues. Something had to have happened."
"Go on..." Justin stated sensing there was more.
"Erica found a silver bracelet in her bed. Its not hers and it looks identical to the one Troy gave Shelby last month."
"Alot of people share the same taste in jewelry." Justin shrugged.
"Yes, but Shelby didn't have hers on today." Crystal stated. "And you know her, she never takes it off. Ever!" Justin looked up at Crystal. He shook his head slightly.
"Shelby would never..." He insisted.
"I thought the same, but lets be honest Justin. Shelby isn't a harmless little girl anymore. And she's changed so much. She's grown so much. I hardly know her anymore."
"I understand that you feel you need to have an explanation for everything, but sometimes things just happen." He stated.
"I know its not something easy to accuse, cause it took me so long to even consider Jason would do such a thing, but you have to understand its possible." She stated. Justin turned to her.
"I'm not going to sit here and listen to you accuse my sister of all people, of being a whore."
"I never said anything about..."
"It was emplied!" He spat. Crystal frowned slightly at him.
"I understand she's your sister, but she's also a woman and I remember what its like to feel for two men. Its possible she does to." She spoke softly.
"Not everyone grows up as misguided as you." He stated harshly, "And I don't care what you say. I know my sister. She would never." He turned back around. "So just drop it and go to bed." Crystal eyed the back of him momentarily. Surprised by his sudden demeanor towards her.
"This how its going to be when we disagree? Your word is final and then I will just have to fall in?" She asked and then shook her head even though she knew he wasn't looking at her. "Justin, if I can't have an open minded conversations with you, then I'm not sure this is going to work..."
"She's my sister, Crystal." Justin stated. "And if you only knew what we went through as children, you wouldn't accuse her of such things."
"If you had shared the slightest bit about your childhood, we wouldn't have decussions like this." Crystal stood and headed towards the door. "I think I'll sleep in my own room tonight." She stated and left. With the shutting of the door, Justin fell back on the bed with a huge sigh.
"Jason?" Erica called out into the hallway.
"Yes?" He replied as he came from within the bathroom.
"Coming to bed?"
"Yes, in just a moment, I need something from my office." He smiled at her. She nodded.
"Hurry back."
Jason headed downstairs and to his den. He heard the door shut behind him.
"Shelby! You startled me." He stated with a laugh.
"She found the bracelet." She stated. "She showed it off today at the fittings."
"What happened?" He asked as he sat down at his desk. She came over and sat on top of his desk.
"She started in on her 'oh poor pittiful me' garbage." Shelby laughed. Jason nodded.
"Anyone figure out it was yours?" He questioned. She shook her head.
"No. But I think Crystal suspects." She stated. He nodded.
"I appreciate what you are doing for me. I'm just sorry Troy left before you had a chance to explain. Or before I did for that matter." She laughed lightly.
"With the way he was feeling, I'm pretty sure he might have hit you." she paused. "I wrote him a letter. Telling him everything. Rather he believes it or not... I'll just have to wait and see." She sighed. "I almost wanted to just blurt everything out in that bridal shop today. She just makes me so angry!"
"Yes. She's quite the actress. I just wish it didn't have to come down to what it has." Jason sighed.
"Are you sure about this? All of it?" Shelby questioned.
"Yes. I found everything. The returned loved letters, the dates she arranged meetings, the needles... It was all in a box in our closet." Shelby grabbed his hand.
"You really loved her, didn't you?" She asked. Jason nodded.
"Blindlessly, apparently." He paused. "If I hadn't have come across those letters... I may have never known she was in love with him. Or that she would have done such terrible things."
"You must know, that he does not feel the same."
"Yes, I know. He feels for no one but Crystal and I know he was just sparing my feelings by not telling me of her deciet."
"Can't really blame him though. I mean could you imagine how you're suppose to tell your bestfriend that his wife's in love with you?"
"Well... when its all out in the open, its going to take a miracle to forgive her."
"Do you think Crystal could even forgive her for this?" Shelby asked. Jason shrugged.
"This is pretty heavy stuff. If it was just the letters alone, maybe. But all that stuff with Peter... and the baby..." Jason sighed. "Its not going to end pretty." Shelby laughed lightly.
"Oh how I love the drama!" Shelby stated. "Too, bad it us going to be causing it."
"Yes, indeed." He stated. "Good night, Shelby!" Jason stated as he left the room.
"Good night, lover!" She laughed lightly as she too, left the room.
