Of Love and Lust - Ch. 24

Romance Created on 3-6-08 Views(216) Story Rating G

Justin was seated at his desk, drowning himself in his work. Trying to forget anything and everything around him, hoping these last few weeks would go by faster. It had only been a few days with out her, and he was already going mad. Aside from missing Crystal, Shelby was still being a pain in his ass, and Troy was just as lost in the matter as he was.
"Sir." Cedric entered the room, Justin acknowledged him with a nod, "This came for you just a moment ago. One of Mr. Walsches ranch hands brought it for you." He held up and envelope. Justin motioned for him to bring it over and Cedric sat it on the desk before leaving the room. With a lean back in his chair, Justin opened the envelope and pulled a letter out from within. He unfolded it and began to read.
Mr. Micehals
I send the most of unfortunate news. Since her departure from your home, Crystal has fallen ill, though her condition is stable and the doctor has been and gone quite a few times, I still feel it necessary to share such information with you, despite the plea from Crystal that I not bother you with it. She assures us all that she will be fine, but under the circumstances that you will soon be her husband, I ask you to come and discuss such event with her. There is no room for secrets in marriage. If you take her word and decide she has choosen best, then I will bother you no further, however, if you do choose to come, please do not tell her it was I that sent for you.
Sara

Justin set the letter down on his desk and for a moment, he wasn't sure what to think. And then a million scenerios came to his mind. Had she known she was ill? Did she not think he could handle it? He stood from his desk and made his way downstairs, where he met up with Cedric. He quickly grabbed his coat.
"Something the matter, sir?" Cedric questioned.
"Miss Crystal has fallen ill, I'm going over to see if I can be of some assistance or perhaps provide some comfort." Justin stated
"Is she all right?"
"We'll see..." Justin headed out the door.
When he arrived at the manor, Mr. Walsche was waiting on the porch. An angry look on his face. As Justin approached the steps. Jake began to speak.
"I suppose you're here to see about Crystal?" He questioned. Justin nodded.
"Yes. I just recieved a letter from your wife explaining that she was ill and I came to offer some assistance, to see her."
"Haven't you done enough?" Jake spat. Justin looked at him.
"I'm not sure I understand."
"What I don't understand is how you could turn out a young woman in such a state."
"Turn out? Sir, she left for here on her own accord and if she had been ill, I assure you I had no knowledge of it." Justin spat as politely as possible. From the moment he met Crystal, Justin had come to learn that her uncle was a highly proud protective man, but Justin was beginnign to think he was blowing things out of purportion on purpose just to start a fight.
"Why on earth would my neice leave a stable enviornment in her condition weeksbefore her wedding ifit was not of your doing?"
"I wouldn't know. She told me nothing and as it would appear on yourself, Sara and Shelby's account, I seem to be the only one still in the dark about it all." Justn hissed as Sara came out the door.
"Justin, sweetheart." Sara greeted him.
"Mrs. Walsche," He greeted her back, "I got your letter. I came straight over."
"Yes, I'm sorry you weren't informed sooner but she pleaded with me not to." Sara confessed.
"Its all right. Can I see her?"
"Of course," Sara showed him in and he made hisway to her room. He entered slowly. Crystal looked towards the door and at the site of him, she turned her head away slightly.
"My love?"
"Did my aunt send for you?" She asked. Remembering Sara's plea, he shook his head.
"No. I stopped by for a short visit and she spoke ofyour aliment breifly." He paused. "Are you okay?" Crystal nodded.
"Yes, the doctor says I'll be as good as new in a few days."
"What had he diagnosed?" Justin pondered. She looked down at her now trembling hands and whimpered slightly as she sat up.
"Justin, on my first night here. I began to bleed. Assuming it was just my monthly time, I assumed it was nothing of great concern. But then the pain started and the blood came quicker and in greater amounts. Sara found me, passed out on the floor, in a small puddle of my own blood and called quickly for the doctor." She paused and before she could speak agian, Justin chimed in.
"Sounds more serious than you've let on. Why wouldn't you want to tell me this? I'm suppose to be here for you. Take care of you."
"I didn't exactly know it was going to happen like this."
"What do you mean?" She motioned for him to sit beside her and he came over to her as she had requested.
"The reason I came here was to get advice from Sara about life and love and marriage. I needed to know for sure that its all worth it, cause I had thought I was with child." At the sound of her words, Justin looked up at her, eyes wide with surprise."
"Child?" He questioned, she nodded as tears rolled down her cheek.
"Yes, but my sickness was not ailment, but a miscarriage. I am no longer with child. The doctor says it was probably brought on by all the stress i've been under." She looked up at him as he lowered his head slightly. "I wasn't trying to keep it from you, or trying to hide it. I just... I just needed to talk to Sara about it. I wasn't..." She trailed off as she began sobbing. Justin wrapped his arms around her quickly.
"I know, love..." He whispered in her ear gently. "It's ok."
"No... its not. I should have just told you. I should have just trusted that we were going to be ok. Shelby was right.... I ruined everything."
"Don't talk like that. This isn't your fault. Things like this.... they just happen." Justin stated. She shook her head slightly.
"How easy it is for those words to escape your lips when you weren't the one who killed our baby...."

Shelby sat infront of the fire in the living room of the mansion waiting for Troy or Justin, whoever came in first. She didn't care which cause she had questioned for both. As she sat, patiently waiting, Cedric brought her out some tea.
"Here yu are, Miss."
"Thank you Cedric."
"May i ask, what's bothering you?" Shelby shrugged slightly.
"A little bit of everyting, Cedric."
"Would you like to talk about it. Maybe I could be of some help."
"All right..." She turnedto him as he sat down on thecouch. "Do you really believe Crystal is right for Justin?"
"When it comes to matters of the heart, what others think doesn't seem to be an issue."
"I know it shouldn't matter and no matter what, my brother will marry her. I just want to know if you think it's right."
"I believe they were meant to be togheter. Now for how long is clearly up the them. But that aside, I think the greater question is why you think they're not destined to be with one another."
"I just, It all seems to be just a game to her. My brother has been through so much. I just don't see it as fair that shse one he has chosen isn't taking it seriously." Shelby sighed.
"You judge ofwhat you don't know."
"I know plenty."
"You know now, but you know nothing of the heartache that ensued before you're arrival." Cedric stood. "These two apartis definately not a sight you'd want to see." The door opened and Troy entered the room.
"Good evening, Sir." Cedric greeted.
"Hello Cedric." He sighed, "Justin will be staying over at the Walsche's with Miss Crystal." Cedric nodded and left the room.
"He's staying?" Shelby questioned.
"Well she's quite taken under, why wouldn't he stay?" Troy kissedher softly.
"How is she?"
"Shes doing well given her situation."
"What do you mean?"
"Apparently, she had been pregnant." Troy began. "Lost it a few nights ago when she arrived there." Shelby looked up at him.
"My Lord. A miscarriage?"
"I suppose. I didn't get many details."
"A cause?"
"Not sure. But I am sure that she'll be ok and we should really rest and make a plan to go see her tomorrow."
"Uh... yes.. of course." Shelby followed. Troy upstiars to bed. As she laid there next to him, him already fast asleep, she couldn't help but wonder if she was being too critical of Crystal.

Justin quietly made his way out of the room. Descending the stairs, he saught out for the kitchen, where he found Jake and Sara.
"Good evening." He stated.
"Good evening, dear. Tea?" Sara asked.
"Yes, thank you." Justin sat at the table.
"How is she?"
"Physically, she's doing well, emotional and mentally, she's still a little out of it. Shes uh... blaming herself for what happened. And I don't know if I can convience her otherwise." He stated.
"Oh how horrible she must feel." Sara crooned. "I couldn't imagine what its like..."
"Come now, Sara. Enough talk of this tonight." Jake stated, then looked over at Justin slightly. "Don't you think he's been through enough today. He doesn't need you talking likethat."
"I'm sorry, I meant nothing by it..." Sara stated softly as she grabbed Justin's arm. He nodded gently.
"I know." He replied. "Its all right." Sara stood and headed out of the room.
"Give her a few days. Crystal, I mean. Give her a few days to go over her emmotions. Once she's got them sorted out. Maybe then, you can explain all this to her." Jake paused. "I don't know what its like to be a woman who's lost a child. But I know how I would feel as a father if I had. This is going to take time and patience to heal. As long as you stay together and are there for each other, you'll make it through."
"Thank you, Mr. Walsche." Justin stated. Jake nodded as he stood, then he left the room.
Justin sat and stared down at his cup of tea. None of this had really set in. None of it really seemed real at the moment. Almost like it didn't matter, because he didn't know, and the fact that it no longer exsist, made it seem of no concern. Mr. Walsche spoke of healing, but there was nothing for him to heal over. Crystal was the only one with the true pain and heartache of it all, and Justin hated that. Hated that he couldn't understand her pain, and her suffering. How could he help her coup and tell her everything will be fine, if he didn't even understand it himself.
