Short Created on 6-19-07 Views(46) Story Rating G

It was the fist day of February and it was snowing. Ms. Star pulled into the driveway of their new home. Kera, Zora, and Ms. Star got out of the light blue van. A bunch of their neighbors came to their house. The first one smiled at Ms. Star, “Hi! My name’s Jane! I made you some cookies!” Jane hands Ms. Star the plate of cookies. Ms. Star smiles, “Thank you! My name’s Amy! These are my daughters!” Zora and Kera smile and wave at Jane and the other five neighbors. Amy walks over to her children,  “Their names are Zora and Kera. Zora’s the one with blood red hair and Kera’s the one with white hair.” The neighbors smile and Jane says, “What…lovely children! I love their hair color! It’s…unique…! Did they dye their hair those colors?” Amy shakes her head, “They were born that way!” The other neighbors gave them their welcome to the neighborhood presents and left. Jane stares at Zora and Kera before leaving.

Two weeks latter Zora was sitting in class next to Kera. Some people stared at them and they started to whisper. When class was over some one stopped Zora, “What did you do to get that hair color? Did you kill some one…and your sister saw you kill some one? Is that why her hair’s white?” They started to laugh at Zora and Kera Zora glares at them and they stop laughing, “Why is your hair blond? Is that your I.Q.?” The girl steps back, “That’s so mean!” Zora deeply sighs, “I have never killed any one! Kera and I were born with our hair this way!” Zora and Kera quickly entered the cafeteria. Kera went to sit with her friends after she got her food. Zora grabbed her food and sat in the corner. Taku looks at Zora and quickly looks away. On the way to throw her trash away, Zora was tripped. A lot of people started laughing as Zora got up and picked up her garbage. Zora made sure that no one saw her tears as she left the room after throwing her garbage away.

After school Zora went to her room and closed the door. She threw her backpack on her bed and locked the door. Zora went over to her desk and took out a hidden razor blade. Zora started to silently cry and whispers, “Why do they hate me? I didn’t do anything to them…and they…hate me!” Zora cuts her shoulder and put the razor blade away. Kera knocks on the door, “Zora...are you okay? Do you want to talk about it?” Zora wipes her tears away, “I have to finish my homework! They gave me a ton to do!” Kera sighs, “You would tell me if something was bothering you? I’m here for you! You know you can sit with me during lunch. If you want to!” Zora gets out her homework and Kera left about thirty minutes latter. Zora finished her homework and put it away in her backpack. She took out her journal and started writing a sad poem.

Four weeks latter Zora’s walking down the hall and sees a poster that was for the talent show. Zora went to the office and found the sign up sheet. Taku and Kyo were in the office. They just finished signing up for the talent show. Zora put her name on the sheet and Taku curiously asked, “What are you going to do for the talent show?” Zora looked at Taku, “I’m going to read a poem…that I made!” Taku nods, “My name’s Taku and this is Kyo!” Zora nods, “I’ve seen you guys around Kera!” Zora left the room before they could say anything else. Kyo nudged Taku, “When are you going to tell her?” Taku blushed, “I…I can’t! Maybe I shouldn’t read that poem at the talent show…!” Kyo shakes his head, “You should! I think Zora should know!” Taku looked at where Zora was, “She’s looks sadder…everyday! How can I cheer her up…when I’m to shy to tell her? We better go to class!” Kyo and Taku ran to class and sat near Zora.

Zora practiced everyday and soon it was the day of the talent show. Kera hugs Zora and cheerfully says, “Good luck! I’ll be rooting for you!” Amy looked at Zora, “You’re going to do a great job!” Amy drops them off at school. Zora and Kera raced to their first class and their day was just like any other day. A girl stopped Zora, “I like your hair color.” Zora smiles, “Thanks! Wait…Rin! How are you doing! You dyed your hair! I always said that you look good in black!” Rin smiles, “I’m fine! I just started going to this school today! What is this school like?” Zora deeply sighs, “Not very good! People are picking on me…again!” Rin hugs her, “I can’t wait for you to read your poem today.” Rin and Zora went to class.

When class was over Kera, Zora, and Rin entered the cafeteria. Rin ate lunch with Zora and Zora waited for her name to be called. When Zora’s name was called she took her journal out of her bag and went on the stage. Zora opened the journal and started to read her poem, “She sits on the cold bench. She watched people walk by and hope that some one would stop and talk to her. No one even really looked at her. She quietly cries and tears of blood slide down her pale face. Her damaged, wings are hidden by her long, dark hair. Everyday seems to get worse for her as people tease her. Their ice-cold words cut her. All she can think is how lovely it would be to have her own eternal sleep. One night the pain was too much for her to bear. She closed her sad eyes and she was finally at peace.” The audience whipped their tears and clapped for Zora’s performance. Zora walked off the stage and while she sat down Taku’s name was called. Taku walked on to the stage, “There’s a girl who I would like to be with. Her dark long hair glistens in the light. Her sad eyes call to me to take away her pain. She tries to hide her pain. I want to hold her and tell her how much I love her.” Zora silently gasp, “Is Taku talking about…me? Rin…I have to go….” Zora stood up and ran away and people laugh at them. Taku ran after her and he couldn’t find Zora anywhere.

Zora stayed home for about five weeks. Kera knocked on Zora’s bedroom door, “Zora! You can’t hide in your room forever.” Zora opens the door, “What do you want? I bet someone dared him to say those words!” Kera sighed, “I think he really meant it. Rin’s here!” Zora opened the door wider and sees Rin, “Rin!” Rin sees the cuts on Zora’s arm, “Zora…you’re cutting yourself again! Why are you doing this to yourself?” Zora started to cry, “Why…when everyone’s turned their back on me! Why are you guy always there for me? I’ve never done anything…but bring you trouble!” Zora closed the door and Kera knocked on the door trying to get her sister to open the door again.

Two weeks latter, Taku decides to visit Zora at her house. Kera was trying to get Zora to open her bedroom door when Taku was let into the house. Taku saw Kera, “Kera, is Zora in there?” Kera looked at Taku and she was crying, “She won’t come out of her room!” Taku walked over to Zora’s bedroom door, “Zora! I know that I’m the last person you want to here! I love you, Zora! I don’t care what they say! Please…Zora…please open the door!” Zora opens the door, “Do you really mean it, Taku? Do you really love me?” Taku grabs Zora by the waist and hugs her, “I really do love you! You’re the only girl for me, Zora.” Zora cried and hugs Taku back, “I love you too, Taku! I was to blind by my pain to see it.” They kissed and everything became all right again.
