My Best Friend's Girl 4

For the next few days of school sucked… Leah was ignoring me and paying way more attention to Wes as if to say “well if this is what you want!” But I didn’t want that. I wanted her all for myself… I decided to ignore it and focus on baseball… Our big game was coming up and I needed all the practice I could get… I was really going for a no hitter but that might not happen if I didn’t focus!

“So bro, you coming to the party tonight? There are going to be some hotties there tonight!” he grabbed my shoulders and squeezed. I don’t usually party but I figured Leah would go and I needed to apologize.

“Ya sure, but I gotta hit the batting cages first… I will be there around 8.” He shrugged and said he would text me with the directions… I am not real found of field parties, but they are dark and should provide plenty of room for us to talk alone.

I slipped the change into the slot and the machine flung the ball my way… I have never been a strong hitter, but at the batting cage I felt like a pro. About 4 swings in I heard a truck roar into the parking lot… I knew it was Wes’s truck and I figured he stopped by to hit a few with me…

He strutted into the batting cages and hollered for me to come out and talking to him… I finished my round and walked out of the cage taking off the sweaty helmet… “Hey man what’s up? Thought we were meeting at the party?”

He looked happier than I have ever seen him when he said “Man I asked Leah out and she said ‘Yes’. She is even coming to the party tonight…” He kept on talking and I felt guiltier than ever. “I can’t wait to get her naked!”

“What did you just say?” The though of him taking advantage of her was unreal. I couldn’t believe he would even consider doing that… Did he love her?

“Dude, she is so hot and I can’t wait to see her naked… Don’t worry I will play nice!” He patted me on the shoulder as if to assure me, but I was definitely worried… Don’t get me wrong I am experienced, but the girls I have been with always knew from the get go that this was just for fun while Romeo over there took a different approach by telling him he loved them.

“I think you should wait… let her be the one to initiate it… You will probably get further that way!” I knew that would make him hold off for a while… Hopefully by then she will have come to her senses. “Ya dude I guess you’re right! I guess I will give her some time, you know I am still banging Raylin from FC anyways…”

Sometimes I wonder why we are even friends. Over the years he has gotten to be such an ass. Why doesn’t he understand what a great person Leah is? I knew I had to do something but what?

I rushed home to change but spent a little more time than normal working on my hair and outfit. I was going to apologize tonight and tell her to steer clear of Wes.

I hopped in my new and always spectacularly clean mustang and headed for Dry Pond Rd. I had been there once before so I remembered the spot is passed the corn field. I pulled up slowly trying not to get mud on my tires and I immediately spotted my team. Wes wasn’t there yet and a million images flashed through my mind. Wes and Leah in a car somewhere or at his house… Fear must have registered on my face because Zack rushed to me to see what was wrong…

Before I could answer Wes and Leah pulled up. She wouldn’t even look at me. “Nothing I am fine just um tired!”

“Well this should wake you up!” He handed me a beer and we walked back to the fire. I don’t really drink, but I hold a beer to keep them from nagging me. No way was I wrecking my baby.

People were all over the place. The sun was setting and the fire was blazing even though it was about 80 degrees outside…  I headed to the pond to cool off from the heat of the fire when someone tapped me on the shoulder… It was her!

“Umm hey Seth, sorry about the other day, I guess you did me a favor since Wes is a pretty cool guy…” Say something Seth if not she is going to go off and sleep with him tonight.  “Well I guess I will head back to the party… See ya!” She turned and headed to Wes.

“No wait Leah! I am the one who should be sorry… it wasn’t you! It’s just that I don’t want you to get hurt and… I know how Wes is but he is still my friend!”

“So let me get this straight… You are AFRAID that you will hurt me or that Wes will?” She looked confused, but oddly curious… I still couldn’t hurt Wes though!

“Both, you know how us guys are so you should probably stay away from all guys!” I knew that sounded stupid but I didn’t want her to run off to another guy.

“So what you want me to be a lesbian or something or worse by myself… Get real Seth… I thought you liked me and that we would be good together but I can see you are just another loser… At least Wes is straight forward with me.”

I turned around as she walked away… Not wanting to let her go again but also not willing to give up my friendship… After a few minutes I heard someone coming. The steps were soft and slow and I turned praying it was Leah again.

“Hey stud, how’s it going tonight? The moon is crazy huh?” Ally said. You could tell she had a couple of drinks and well she has been throwing herself at me since freshman year. We kissed a couple times too but she told me she loved me one night when she was drinking so I have stayed away from her ever since.

“Yea it’s nice out… Hey you want to head back to the party…” I didn’t want to be alone with her. “Sure stud… as long as I can sit with you!” She looked at me with those big brown eyes as if to say she wanted me but I was not the type to lead someone on so I just walked toward the fire…

The guys were all singing our schools Fight song and talking about how we are going to beat the Eagles from Franklin County at the playoffs. The whole team was there and a couple of others from school. Several girls sporting our jerseys ran around looking way dumber than they thought. Before I could sit down Zack yelled, “How about a speech from our fearless leader!”

I always gave a speech before the games but never in front of girls or anyone besides the guys on the team. “Well we have had a great year and it’s almost over… I know we are all going to different colleges and I want to wish everyone the best… I know we are going to kick ass at playoffs but I want you to know you guys are the best and it has been a pleasure being your team captain…”

“I’ll drink to that!” Wes hollered. Everyone held there cans out and said “GOOOO BENGALS!”

“Now if you will all excuse me I am headed home.” I don’t think they even cared… I hoped they didn’t try to drive home but I didn’t want to hang around and baby-sit all night… “Seth wait up!” I cringed knowing exactly who it was!!!
