His dad walked up behind me and his mom as we huddled together waiting for another update. The doctor had just left and the words were rolling through my head... "Now we aren't sure but we think that the bone in his knee is chipped and if that is correct we may have to do some reconstructive surgery and about six months of rehab...."

I didn't catch it all... i wasn't worried about how this would change us I was worried about the pain that he must be in... The words zoned in and out "He has road burn on 65% of his body and that will require so excrutiating home care.." I vowed from that moment to not leave his side until he was better...

"Can i see him?" I butted into the doctors speech... He looked very compassionate and said, "No mam' his wounds are being cleaned and you being in there could risk infection.. The nurse will call you in when they are wrapped.."

I sat back down on the chairs and stared straight ahead... I prayed with all my might and was about to sell my soul for him to be okay when the nurse came out and called me back!

Seeing him all wrapped up in the white cloth with the occasional blood splatter was almost to much for me... "Hey honey how are you feeling?"  He smiled apparently the moriphine had kicked in as he was almost falling asleep...

"Did the doctor talk to you?" He said swallowing constantly... "Yea sweetie and they said that even at its worse it will still be fine with some phsyical therapy... Don't worry about honey I will be here every step of the way!"

"Thanks honey and i wish I could hold you... I know this is a horrible bday present and i swear I will make it up to you."

"Oh stop that silly! You being with me is enough of a present... Just worry about you getting better."

I held his forearm and he closed his eyes... The blood was still seeping out of his knee and shoulder... He adjusted a bit and you could see his face crinkle in pain... I have never felt so helpless...

 "so what's up doc?" Justin said trying to smile but the drowsiness from the medicine was hitting him pretty hard.. I must have dosed off or something since I did not even hear him come in. I glanced at the clock which read 230.. i was glad I called my parents and let them know the situation...

"Well i have some good news Justin, your knee is not broken but it will require some stitches and at least a week of no unnecessary walking... you're lucky that you have this lil lady!" he patted me on the shoulder and justin said, "Trust me sir, I know how lucky I am!"

"Indeed you are son, because with a crash like that you are lucky to have everything intact... So here is what I am going to do... I know the moriphine has kicked in and the wounds have been cleaned so I am going to get this knee sewn up and send you home with some painkillers..."

"Yes sir..." Justin said before turning his head toward the walll.. I could have sworn that i saw a tear but when he turned back to me his face was dry... "Baby i am so happy... everything is going to  be alright in a week... Don't worry I will be there!"
