And The Next Story I'm Writing Is... |
|
Together Forever?[17]Authors Comments: another long chapter.
|
That morning, I woke fully rested at 10:30. I stretched and cracked my back before wandering into Amanda’s kitchen and grabbing some cereal for breakfast. I retreated back to her room, snuggled in the corner of her room with the blanket and watched TV until she came down, her dark brown hair wet from her shower.
“So…did you have fun last night?” I asked hesitantly. I didn’t want her to freak out on me.
“No…I had a fucking blast!” she exclaimed excitedly. I smiled brightly and we went on talking about how hot the Jonas Brothers were. After hours of giggling and laughing, I called my mom to come and pick me up. When I got in the car, the interrogation began.
“So how was your stay?” she asked as if I had been away for a month.
“Um…it was fine. Why do you ask?” I asked with a confused tone.
“Just wondering,” she shrugged while keeping her eyes on the road. “Has Kevin called you at all?” That’s when I knew something was up.
“Nope,” I answered, looking out the window, picturing him and a skinny blonde, Katlynn, making out under a tree or something. I shook my head and a tear slid down my cheek but then I remembered that I was just as bad. I was with Kevin and I had kissed Dominic more than once now. And even if Kevin was cheating on me, I couldn’t say I blamed him. Well, I could and it would be his own fault but it wasn’t my fault that he was a 15 year old boy that thought with the wrong head. The head he was thinking with was too small to fit in a brain in it which clarifies my point.
“Have you tried calling him?” she asked. I rolled my eyes.
“No Mom,” I sighed deeply.
“Am I bothering you?” she asked with that ‘I’m-the-mother-and-I-can-ask-whatever-I-want’ tone.
“No Mom. It’s just that we kind of had a fight before he left,” I explained, trying my best to not be caught in the half lie I had just told her.
“I’m sorry sweetie,” she sighed. “Do you want to talk about it?”
“No,” I stated, trying to make my point that I didn’t want to talk to her about anything at the moment. She took the hint and we stayed quiet the rest of the ride home. “Oh, by the way, Dominic called when you were gone. You should call him back,” my mom called after me, as I shut my bedroom door and fell back on my bed, staring at my ceiling.
“Well Ana,” I said to myself, “you’ve gotten yourself into quite the mess.” I picked up the phone and dialed Dominic’s number. While waiting for someone to answer, I snuggled under my covers and laid my head on the soft pillow.
“Hello?” Dominic answered.
“Hey, it’s me,” I smiled, his voice making my body ripple with joy. “My mom said you called earlier so I wanted to call back and see what was up.”
“Yeah,” he replied. “I was wondering if you wanted to go to Horeb pool with me?”
“Sure,” I jumped up and immediately began dressing for swimming. “Can you get me or should I try and get a ride?”
“Try and get a ride because my dad is pretty cranky today,” he explained.
“Alright. So what time should I meet you there?” I asked.
“Quarter after five sound like a good time?” he asked. He was so sweet.
“Yeah that sounds great! I’ll see you then. Bye,” I hung up and walked out into the living room. “Hey Mom! Can you take me down to Horeb to meet up with Dominic?”
“Sure,” Mom yelled from the laundry room, grabbing her keys and leading the way out to the car. “Analyssa I want you to be honest with me when I ask you this question okay?”
I nodded as my brow furrowed with confusion. “Sure Mom. Ask away.”
“Do you like Dominic?” she asked, waiting for me to answer before she started the car.
“OH MY GOD no!” I laughed, putting on my best poker face. “No way! We’re just friends Mom.”
“So you’re not getting rid of Kev?” she asked.
“Of course not,” I lied again.
“Okay good,” she stated as she turned the key in the ignition and the tiny car’s engine roared to life. The ride to the pool was silent and I looked out the window as we passed by the rundown downtown area of my city. It was sad to see so many people out on the streets with no where to go. But when we pulled up to the pool, my thoughts of the impoverished people flew away in a bubble and Dominic’s smile was running through my mind.
“What time do you need me to pick you up?” Mom hollered out the window.
“Eight thirty!” I yelled back. “Love you! Drive safe.” It really bothered me lying to my mom like this because we were so close, but if I told her that I liked Dominic and that I planned on breaking up with Kevin—whom she really liked—she wouldn’t let me see Dominic anymore. As I walked into the pool area, I immediately saw Dominic and his nephew Corey. I hadn’t seen Corey in years but we had gone to summer camp together a couple years before that. I smiled and set down my stuff, walking over to the poolside and dipping my feet in the water.
“Hey hot stuff,” Dominic teased. I laughed and backed away as he tried to splash me. “Aren’t you coming in?”
“Yes. But I’d like to get in when I WANT to,” I emphasized.
“Fine, fine,” Dominic gave in as I slipped into the water.
“OH LORD! It’s freezing in here!” I squeaked, wrapping my arms around myself to keep warm.
“Come here,” Dominic held out his arms and I went into them eagerly. He was warm and my head fit perfectly into the crook between his neck and shoulder.
“Awwe, look at this. A match made in heaven,” I heard Corey sneer from behind Dominic.
“Why I outta,” I jumped out of Dominic’s arms and tackled Corey, dunking him underwater. I laughed as he came up and tried wrestling me down and Dominic ran to my rescue. He was the sweetest and I knew that night I wouldn’t stop smiling.
After the pool had closed, Dominic and Corey walked back to Corey’s house down the street and I waited for my mom. When I climbed into the car, I blasted the heat because I was so cold my teeth were chattering and my mom stayed quiet, not asking me anything. When I got home, I jumped into a hot shower and got into my pajamas. I crawled into bed and turned out the light. Then, just I was falling asleep it hit me like a train coming full force at me. Kevin was coming home tomorrow.
