Dominic put his hand under my chin and lifted my head so my eyes connected with his. He smiled sympathetically and whispered, “Any guy to cheat on you is crazy.” Then, he leaned in and as I closed my eyes, his little moment was interrupted when someone called my name.

“Ana!” Amanda yelled from the chain link fence. I smiled and ran over to the fence, leaving Dominic disappointed.

“Oh my GOSH! You’ve lost so much weight!” I smiled at her through the fence and handed her a couple dollars. “Come on in!” I met her in the locker room and we babbled non-stop about the things we used to talk about: the Jonas Brothers, people we hated at school and our Florida trip the year of 8^th grade.

“God!” I giggled. “I’ve missed you so much!” I hugged her and we walked out of the locker room together and over to Dominic, who was waiting disappointingly under the umbrella where I’d left him.

“Amanda,” I said motioning to Dominic, “this is Dominic. And Dominic this is one of my best friends, Amanda.” Dominic stood, towering over me and Amanda and stuck out his hand. Amanda smiled apprehensively and shook his hand.

“Nice to meet you,” she said meekly. “Ana, I can’t go swimming. I got that thing removed from my leg again.”

“Wow. It came back?” I asked, gathering up my things.

“Yeah,” she chuckled. “It’s stupid like that.”

“Dom? Would you mind if we went to the park and hung with Amanda since she can’t swim?” I asked him with pleading eyes.

“Sure,” he shrugged and grabbed his things. He brushed past me brusquely and I looked down. Great, I thought, he’s mad. I smiled at Amanda and led the way through the locker room, thoughts running through my head like a train, fast and loud. I was getting voices screaming at me in my mind, from all different directions.

‘You need to stay with Kevin, he loves you!’ one voice screamed.

‘Dominic’s way better! Just kiss him already!’ another yelled.

‘Just be single honey! You deserve that time to yourself!’ another tried convincing me. I must’ve looked like I was in deep thought because as we began to trek down to the park, Amanda asked, “You okay?” I nodded and stayed quiet. Dominic lagged behind, obviously not liking the idea of sharing me at all. Once at the park, we all swung on the swings in silence. I needed something to relieve me of these stupid voices…I felt like a crazy person.

“Hey Manda? Wanna have a sleepover?” I asked.

Amanda’s face lit up. “Sure! Where?”

“My house?” I asked.

“Alrighty! Let’s go!” she shouted as she pulled out her cell to call her mom. I giggled at her hyper outburst and walked over to Dominic.

“Thanks for helping me feel better,” I smiled at him. He looked down at me, his blue eyes full of confusion.

“You’re welcome,” he nodded curtly. My mom pulled up then and we all piled into the car. Little did I know, I was in for the night of my life.
