That night as he drove home, Mark’s mind was racing a mile a minute. The commute was going slow so it gave him plenty of time to think. A million thoughts raced through his head. Did she feel the same? What happened in the elevator this morning; love or sex? All of these were unanswered questions that he intended to have answered by the end of dinner tonight. The car behind him honked their horn at him and Mark snapped out of his trance. As the commute picked up, the butterflies in his stomach fluttered their wings faster. He felt as if he was a young boy again, going to pick up a girl for their first date. Oh, but it was more than that with Bella; so much more. He pulled a small black box out of the glove compartment. We’ll see how much it really is tonight, he thought.

As Mark pulled into the driveway and began to get out of his car, he saw Bella changing in her bedroom. The blinds were drawn as if she wanted the entire world to see; or maybe just him. Her breasts were growing more and more each day with nourishment for their child. And although she had gained a lot of weight from her pregnancy, her soft, slender, sultry curves were still there. She drove him crazy with those curves. Oh if only she knew just how crazy.

Mark shook his head, yelling at himself in his head for even thinking such thoughts. They were just going to talk tonight, nothing more. Mark slid his key into the lock and walked into the house. When he looked up he saw Bella wearing a yellow halter dress with white polka dots. The dress came just above her knees and her hair dropped over her shoulders and down her chest, covering her breasts. Mark sucked in a deep breath; she was a vision. The yellow added glowing light to her face as she smiled. Then, she spoke.

“How long are you going to be?” she asked smiling. “The reservation is at 5:30 and I’d like to get there on time.”

Mark nodded, not saying a word as he passed her, making his way to his bedroom. Once in there, he shut the door and backed against it, trying to slow his breathing. He had never seen her look so beautiful. Yeah, he thought BEAUTIFUL. Then, he remembered that she was in a hurry. He quickly changed from his typical suit into a pair of black dress slacks and a black button down dress shirt. He thought he looked good and he hoped Bella would think the same.

Mark walked out of his bedroom and down the stairs to see Bella staring out at the sunset, humming softly to herself. He snuck behind her and slipped his arms around her waist. He leaned to her ear and whispered, “You ready to go?”

Bella shivered. Feeling his muscular arms around her was one of the best feelings in the world. “Yes, I’m ready,” she replied, breaking away from his embrace and grabbing her purse. Mark opened the door for her and let her outside. Bella walked to the car, her hips swaying, and waited for Mark to come out and unlock the car door. She was flattered when he came around to her side and let her in the car himself. “Thank you,” was all she could utter out.

The ride there was more than awkward. Bella didn’t want to say anything that might bring up the sexual innuendo that they had had in the elevator that morning. Mark was silent for the majority of the way there until he asked, “When is your next doctor’s appointment?”

Bella sighed as Mark broke the ice ever so smoothly. “Tomorrow, actually,” she answered. “Why?”

Mark nodded. “I’ll ask Derek if he can watch the office for me tomorrow then.”

Bella shook her head, “No no! You don’t need to take off of work to come with me to the doctor. That’s quite alright.”

Mark insisted, “No! This is my child too. I told you I’m going to be there when it’s needed. And in my opinion, this is a time that I’m needed.”

“Well,” Bella responded, impressed. “Danielle is already going with me.”

“You can call her and tell her I’m going with you instead,” Mark decreed.

Bella dug in her purse for her cell phone and called Danielle.

“Hello?” Danielle answered.

“Hey sweetie! It’s me,” Bella replied.

“Oh hey. What’s up hun?” Danielle asked.

“Well, I don’t need you to come to the doctor’s with me tomorrow,” Bella explained.

“Why not?” Danielle asked suspiciously.

“Mark’s coming with me,” Bella answered. Then, she felt Mark’s hand on her thigh. She looked up at him and he smiled at her and squeezed her thigh lightly. She smiled back and finished her conversation with Danielle.

“He is? Well, well, well,” Danielle teased.

“Oh stop. He said he’d be here when he was needed,” Bella retorted.

“Yeah, and he’s falling for you at the same time,” Danielle teased again.

“Oh my God. I have to go, we’re going to dinner,” Bella gave up.

“Have fun. Bye,” Danielle finished, hanging up her phone.

Bella hung up and smiled to herself. She rested her hand on Mark’s. It felt so real. If only it was, she thought.
