Matt hurriedly got out of the car and that’s when he saw her. Julia was lying face down on the ground, bloody. Her t-shirt, soaked with blood, clung to her body like plastic wrap. He ran to her and gently flipped her delicate, slender body over so he could see her face. There were scratches all over it, some deep and others small and not bleeding at all whatsoever. Her eyes fluttered slightly, but they didn’t open and she was still breathing.

Well, that’s a good sign, Matt thought. Then it hit him. The fragrance of Julia’s sweet blood engulfed his nose. The scent attracted him like a honey bee to a flower’s nectar. He slowly bent down and licked a single drop off of her arm. His eyes turned into red and his fangs became visible. Mmm, he thought, entranced by the taste, even yummier than I ever imagined. He bent down once more and slowly sunk his fangs into her wrist, feeding. He wasn’t being careful but he couldn’t sense that because of the trance that the taste and scent of her blood had fixated on him.

“Matt?” Julia moaned softly, straining herself to attempt and sit up. Her eyes opened and Matt stopped and pulled away from her wrist; the blood kept flowing out of her wrist at a fast rate. Matt’s once soft blue eyes were now red, his mouth was dripping with blood and his fangs completely drawn. “What are you doing?” Julia screeched. Matt ignored her screaming and squirming and continued feeding. Suddenly, a force threw Matt off of Julia’s body. From the loss of blood, Julia passed out, the blood still flowing from her cuts and her now open wrist.

Matt looked up and brushed himself off, his red eyes full of anger. He looked up to see Kyle, his soft green eyes unusually full of anger.

“What are you doing to her?” Kyle screamed. “She loves you and you’re killing her!” Matt jumped and hurled himself at Kyle. I’m the younger vampire, Matt thought with confidence. His pride was wiped out when Kyle simply moved out of the way and Matt flew face first into a tree.  Kyle then went to Julia and took her pulse. Matt stood up, now back to himself and ran over to Julia and Kyle.

Kyle looked mournfully at Matt. “She has no pulse or heartbeat,” he said solemnly.

“What have I done?” Matt whispered to himself, tears beginning to fall. “I’m so sorry! Is there anything we can do?” He looked to Kyle, praying for an answer.

“One thing,” Kyle whispered, letting Julia’s hand fall back onto her chest.

“What is it?” Matt exclaimed, shaking Kyle’s strong body. “Tell me!”

“Change her.”
