"Oh honey," Julianne said, ushering her to the couch and grabbing a kleenex box on the way. "I'm so sorry. That's why I didn't want you to tell him. He's not going to be a responsible father."

"I know Mom," Maria replied, sobbing into her mother's shoulder. "Where's Scarlett? I just need to be with her right now."

"She's upstairs in her crib. Take your time," Julianne said, ending the conversation by leaving Maria in the living room alone.

Maria sat there for a few minutes thinking to herself. What am I going to do? she thought to herself. Then, it came to her. I need to find a guy who will be with me...not only with me...but with Scarlett too. Maria climbed up the stairs and walked into Scarlett's nursery. It was pink and yellow. It looked so pretty. She remembered back to when she couldn't even look at this room, and how disgusted she was with herself. When she heard Scarlett laugh, those thoughts melted away and she spent quality time with her baby. After rocking Scarlett to sleep, Maria went into her room to finish her homework. She turned on her iPod so the music was playing softly in her ears. Then she felt her cell phone vibrate. It was Eric.

"Hey," he said with his Southern accent. "What happened the other night?"

"I'm sorry Eric. I haven't been completely honest with you. You wanna meet somewhere and talk?" Maria replied nervously, knowing she was going to have to tell him sometime.

"Sure. Let's meet at Caffe Bistro in a half hour," Eric said, the excitement in his voice evident. 

"I'll see you then," Maria ended, hanging up her cell phone. She got dressed, loaded Scarlett, still sleeping in her carseat, into the car and headed to the coffee shop.
