Julia was silent on the ride back to her house. She sighed, remembering her mother. Her mother had died when she was 10 from cancer. Before her mother died, her father was a good man. Never drank, never did drugs, never smoked, never brought weird women home. But since her mother died, all that had changed and instead of bringing women home, he used HER as his woman. Her head was telling her that going back to get her things would make her feel better, but her heart was telling her something was going to happen and she didn’t know what.

“Turn left here,” Julia pointed out as Matt pulled onto her street. “It’s the white one right there.”

Her house was an old Victorian. It looked small on the outside, but on the inside it was rather large. Julia unlocked the door with her key and walked in. Matt followed behind her closely. The house reeked of beer and old wine.

“I don’t think he’s home,” Julia whispered as she walked up the stairwell.

“Well, then why are you whispering?” Matt asked.

“Because if he is home, he’s probably sleeping and I don’t want to wake him up, so shush!” Julia snipped.

Julia walked into her room, to see her father naked, passed out on the bed.

“Oh, isn’t that a lovely site?” Matt whispered with a chuckle.

Julia rolled her eyes and began to gather her things. She took things like pictures of her mother, clothes, her iPod, her cell phone, money and a pillow. However, when she tried taking the pillow, her father awoke.

“Hey Melinda,” he said, trying to be seductive while drunk.

“It’s me Daddy,” Julia said. “Julia.”

“Naw,” her father replied, “you’re just saying that Melinda ‘cause you don’t love me anymore.” Her father sat up and grabbed Julia by the arms, not noticing Matt was there. “Now fuck me Melinda, like you did on our wedding night!” her father screamed at her, shaking her up and down like a rag doll. A moment later, Julia hit her head on the window sill and was knocked out cold. Then, her father began to take off her clothes.

Matt held in his anger as long as he could, but once he saw Julia’s frail body, only in lingerie, he attacked. He threw himself on Julia’s father’s back and threw him off with all his might, her father hitting the wall and falling to the floor, not moving. Matt put Julia’s pillow in her bag. Instead of re-dressing her, Matt put Julia’s clothes in the bag as well. Then, he threw the bag over his shoulder. He wrapped Julia up in the blanket that was on her bed and lifted her into his arms as if she was just a tiny baby. He looked at her serene expression, unsure if she was sleeping or still unconscious.

Matt made her a small bed in the back of his car and lay her down in there. Then they drove off into the night, never having to worry about Julia’s father bothering them again.
