Vampire Meets Girl(11)
|
“Well, you obviously don’t believe in speed limits,” Julia said, smiling as they were speeding down Highway 93.
Matt chuckled, “Yeah, you’re right. I hate them more than anything. I prefer running.”
Julia became confused. “But wait. Can’t you like turn into a bat or something?”
Matt let out a fall-out laugh and then turned to see the serious expression on Julia’s face. “No, we can’t. Yet another rumor put out by numerous authors.”
Julia simply nodded and looked out at the fields. They were so pretty, the golden corn surrounded by its green protective skin. Then, she got caught up in her own thoughts. I wonder what it’s like to be a vampire. I wonder what he’s going to tell me. As if on cue, Matt parked the car and took the keys out of the ignition. He went around again and opened the door, helping Julia out in a gentlemanly fashion.
“Close your eyes,” he instructed. Julia gave him an apprehensive look. “It’s a surprise,” he explained. Julia sighed skeptically and closed her eyes, unsure. Matt took her both her hands in his and led her to the end of the plateau. He had set out a blanket under the tree and had even brought a picnic lunch, just for his Julia. My Julia, he thought to himself. He restrained himself from moving her chestnut brown bangs from her face. As they moved into the sun, Julia smiled.
“Sit down,” Matt instructed, his velvet voice softer than before. Julia sat down on what felt like a fleece blanket.
“Can I open my eyes now?” she asked.
“Mhm,” Matt replied, waiting for her reaction.
Julia opened her eyes and let the whole scene drift in. It was perfect; almost as if it had been plucked right out of a romance movie. The sun was just setting and there were just the right hues of purple, pink orange and yellow blending together to create a great painting. Then the tree was mixed in. The leaves were colors that she had never seen before. She sighed and then looked at Matt. He looked as if he was part of the painting too. He was looking off into the distance and the way the sun hit his face made him look like a porcelain doll. His blue eyes were swirling with emotions, but she couldn’t tell what. His black hair reflected the sun. She felted entranced, as if he was a sorcerer casting a spell and she was the one spellbound. Then, Matt looked back at her and smiled at her expression of enjoyment.
“Do you like it?” he asked, anxiously.
“Like it? I love it! It’s by far one of the sweetest things anyone has ever done for me,” Julia said, her voice going in one ear and out the other as he was entranced by her beauty.
“I brought you lunch, or should I say dinner now?” Matt said, with a chuckle.
Julia smiled, “Oh, no. What did you bring? I’m allergic to…”
“I know,” Matt interjected. “You’re allergic to wheat, starch and soy.”
Julia’s romanticized expression turned to confusion. “Perhaps before I start eating, you should start explaining to me how you know every little tidbit about me and I know nothing about you.”
Matt sighed, “Alright, but you have to promise to listen to everything before you say anything or run away freaking out or something, okay?”
Julia nodded, not sure if she should have or not.
“Okay,” Matt said as he took a deep breath in, preparing himself. “I was born about 250 years ago in England. I was born on a ship on the way over to ‘the new world.’ My name was Matthew Williams and I was the son of a wealthy general and his wife. At the ages of 15 through 17, I helped with the American Revolution and the fight for independence from England. I was on my way to put my horse in the stables my father had just had built and there was this beautiful woman. I tied my horse to the tree and followed her, entranced by her beauty. She led me into the woods and tied me to a tree. Then, she called a man in some foreign tongue. The man looked me up and down and nodded firmly. The woman smiled at me seductively and I thought I was going to be raped. But that’s far from what actually happened. She kissed my neck softly, and then bit it harder. I screamed and then everything went black. I woke up in new clothes and in a house that wasn’t familiar to me. I walked downstairs and saw the woman and the man sitting on the sofa, as if they were waiting for me. I didn’t ask questions; they simply told me what I had become. I was a vampire. They say that they turned me because their ‘species’ was slowly becoming extinct. I just sat and listened as they told me everything. The man’s name was Kyle and the woman’s name was Maria. They were the last of their kind. Kyle pulled me aside and explained that there was only one mate for me and only I would know. It’s as if the entire world around me would stop and I would see only her. That’s what happened when I saw you walking through the park that night. Your hair was reflecting the moonlight in a way I never imagined someone’s hair could. Your sparkling brown eyes were full of worry, and I knew you were scared. So, I tried to help you and you ran. You’re my soul mate, Julia; the one woman that can fulfill my dreams.”
Julia just sat there, motionless and expressionless.
Matt cringed. “That bad, huh?”
Julia shook her head and smiled. “Listen, I understand you’re in this little fantasy world of your own, but I don’t know what I have to do with it at all.”

I love her reaction!
kmp, please! :]
