Premonitions Chp. 4
|
Three miles later, they approached the subdivision that Kasey saw in her dream.
"Here it is," Michael said as he turned onto the road.
The dirt road that led to the house was long. Kasey saw the house come into perspective at the end of the drive.
"Stop here. I'll walk the rest of the way."
As she opened the door to get out, Michael caught her arm. "You're not going there by yourself."
"Michael, please. Just stay here. If I'm gone for too long, go find help. But only if necessary."
She got out of the car and made her way to the house. She tried to remain unseen. She successfully made her way to the back of the house, making sure that her steps were unheard. She saw the van that had been in her dreams for so long. She walked over to it and peeked in the back window, in hopes of finding Gabriel. Nothing.
She looked at the number of the plate on the van and took a picture of it with her phone. She turned and spotted a window and walked closer. She saw Gabriel in the cellar. She heard her cries. "I'm coming Gaby, just hang in there," she called to her terrified friend.
She picked up some rocks that could easily break the window where she could see Gabriel's mascara smudged eyes. She could see her tears and she felt so sorry for her. She motioned for Gabriel to stand back, as she threw the rock. The glass shattered and it was a deafening sound. She hurried to the window and tried to remove the last couple of pieces of glass so Gabriel could escape safely.
Suddenly she heard Gabriel squealing. She tried to hush her friend. "Gaby, you have to be quiet, or he'll hear you and kill us both."
Gabriel pointed behind Kasey with a shaky finger. Kasey looked over her shoulder and a tall man hovered over her like a canopy of trees in the forest.
The man stared down at her, with dark eyes. Kasey quickly stood and turned to run, but the man caught her by the collar. She tried to scream, but he covered her mouth as he opened the cellar door. He pushed her down the steps with a force that took the breath out of her. She regained her composure and went over to Gabriel.
"How'd you know where I was?" Gabriel whispered.
"That's not important right now. We have to get out of here."
"I don't think we can," Gabriel
"Don't be so negative. Michael is out there. He'll get help."
Kasey got out her phone and sent a message to Michael telling him what had happened, along with the picture of the van's license plate number.
"Now we wait for him to work his magic," Kasey said as she put away her phone.
"But it could take forever for him to get help. We're in the middle of no where."
"I know. That's why I told him to speed."
Time passed slowly as the two of them waited for Michael to return with help.
"You know this guy?" Kasey asked, breaking the silence.
"No, but he knows me, somehow."
Kasey studied her friend quietly as the cellar door opened. The two girls jumped up, hoping that Michael was standing on the other opposite side. Instead, the tall, mysterious man stood in front of them. He slowly made his way down the cellar steps. Crickets and spiders scattered underneath his feet.
"Who are you?" Kasey asked the man.
"Why does it matter?" the man replied.
"What do you want with us, just answer me that."
"You pretty little things are gonna be my personal slaves. Until I grow tired of you and kill ya, of course."
"Kasey, stop," Gabriel said.
Kasey turned to see her friend balled up in the corner of the room.
"I'm not doing anything. And he won't be doing anything either. Just wait 'till Michael gets back."
The man stepped deeper into the cellar. "No one can save you," he said smiling.
"I wouldn't be so sure."
The man stepped closer to Kasey, but she refused to show any fear of him. Suddenly she heard a car engine. The man turned and ran up the cellar steps. Kasey went to follow, but the door slammed in her face. Soon she heard sirens and she knew she was safe.
The cellar door opened once more and Michael stood at the other end.
"Gaby, come on!" Kasey exclaimed.
Gabriel stumbled so her feet and took Kasey's hand.
"Your mom was worried sick about you," Michael told Gabriel who was stretched out in the backseat.
"Everyone was worried sick about you," Kasey corrected.
Gabriel said nothing the whole way home. When they arrived to their house, Gabriel's mother ran outside to hug her daughter. Tears filled her eyes.
"Oh, Baby are you okay?" she asked, holding Gabriel tightly.
"Yeah, Mom. I'm fine."
Gabriel and her mother went inside, and Michael and Kasey went next door.
"That was crazy," Michael said as he sat on the couch.
"Sure was," Kasey replied as she sat beside him. "Thanks for helping me, Michael."
"No big deal. Your my little sister, I'll do anything to help you."
"Okay, so when are you moving out?" she joked.
"Ha, funny. Just for that, I'll stay here forever."
"Oh great."
Together they laughed.
Later that evening, the door bell rang. Kasey answered it and found Gabriel on the other side. Kasey stepped out and sat Gabriel down on the porch step.
"Thanks for being so brave today. Thanks for saving me."
Kasey smiled. "Your my bestie. I'm supposed to get you out of trouble."
"How did you know where I was?"
Kasey hesitated. She looked at her friend's crystal blue eyes. She still looked so scared.
"Well, let's just say, some dreams come true."
Gaby looked at her, but said nothing. Instead she opened her arms and Kasey came into them.
"I'm glad you found me, and I'm glad were best friends."
"I'm glad too, Gaby."
Together they lay on their backs, looking at the colours the setting sun had painted across the sky.
