Lexi's Goodbye

Until Angels Close My Eyes 5

Short Created on 8-12-07 Views(133) Story Rating G

Adam was starting to back his bags for his trip back home. His time in California had helped somewhat, but not as much as he thought. He was scheduled to leave in two days. But before he did, he remembered something.

"I'm going out for a while," he told his uncle that afternoon.

"Where you goin?"

"I just have to go do some stuff before I leave."

His uncle looked at him for a while. Finally he said, "Okay, but don't be gone too long."

Adam said he wouldn't and he headed out the door.

"Oh my goodness," Katrina said as she answered the door. "Adam!"

Adam smiled. "Hey."

"What are you doing here?" she asked.

"I came so you can make up for what happened at the party."

"Oh, I'm still very sorry about that."

"It's okay, but I'll officially accept your apology if you come with me."

"Where are we going?"

"Where ever you feel like going."

Katrina smiled. "Okay then, just let me tell my parents I'm going out."

Adam waited, and soon Katrina came outside.

"Ready?" she asked.

"You bet."

They went to a small cafe close by. Adam paid for Katrina's drink, along with his. They got a seat by a window, so they could look out at the amazing view of the ocean.

"Thanks for bringing me out. I just had to get out of the house."

"No problem." Adam shifted in his chair, as if something was bothering him.He still found it hard to be with another girl. This was practically a date. But he remembered what Lexi had said in her last diary entry to him.

"Date other girls." He found it hard to be with anyone else without feeling some kind of guilt.

"Are you okay," Katrina asked.

Adam looked up at her quickly. "Yea. I'm fine." He offered her a smile and she smiled back.

"So," Adam said, attempting to make conversation. "How are you?"

"I'm great, thank you. How are you?"

Adam sighed. "I'm....I'm great too."

"Great," Katrina said.

"Do you accept my apology yet," she asked.

Adam laughed. "Yea, I already accepted it, I just wanted you to come with me."

Katrina offered a little giggle. "Oh, I see."

They talked for a few more hours. Then Katrina looked out the window. The sun was setting and it painted the sky with the prettiest shades of pinks and reds.

"Look how beautiful that is."

Adam looked out the window as well, and it was simply breath-taking.

"I could spend forever looking at something like that," Katrina said.

Adam had heard those words before. Lexi had said the same, while looking at pictures of oceans, and sunsets. A lump grew in his throat.

"I...I have to go." Adam quickly stood up, and headed for the door.

"Wait, whats wrong?" Katrina asked as she ran after him.

She finally caught up with him and caught his arm. Adam turned around. "I just have to go."

"Did I do something? I'm sorry if I did..."

Adam cut her off, "No you didn't do anything, I just didn't realize how late it was getting."

Katrina just looked at him. The same expression on her face when Adam left the party so soon a few nights ago.

"Look, Katrina I'm sorry." Adam felt a little bad for hurting her again. "Here, let me take you home."

"No, that's fine. I'm not ready to go home yet. And when I am, I'll get someone else to get me."

Adam sighed. "I'm sorry, please forgive me." He leaned down and kissed her on the cheek, then turned and started walking home.

Katrina watched him walk away. "What's wrong with me?" she asked herself.

As Adam disappeared into the distance, she turned and walked back into the cafe.

"Have a nice time?" his uncle asked him as he walked through the door.

"Yea, excellent time. Kind of tired, going to bed. Goodnight."

Adam walked to his room and got ready for bed. Before he turned off his light, he did his nightly ritual of looking at Lexi's picture. Then he reread her diary entry.

Soon, he'll be on his way back home, and things would be less confusing for him. So he thought.

He turned off the light, and starred at the ceiling. He grew sleepy and eventually fell asleep.
