Until Angels Close My Eyes 2
|
"Did she call again last night?" Adam asked as he entered the kitchen the next morning.
"No. You know, maybe your being a little too hard on her," his uncle replied.
Adam looked at him confused. "Do you know what she said?"
His uncle looked at him blankly.
"She told me I should get my mind off of Lexi by dating other girls."
His uncle paused before responding. He chose his words carefully, trying not to make things worse.
"Maybe shes right. Adam, Lexi is gone. Theres no way she's coming back. You shouldn't feel committed to her anymore."
Adam couldn't believe what he was hearing. Of all people his uncle should understand what he was feeling.
"Mhm...well answer me this." He paused before continuing. "Ever since Aunt Cindy died, you haven't been on any dates with other people.
You haven't been focused on finding another woman to replace the one you lost. You never wanted to move on with someone else in hopes of forgetting her."
He saw the pain in his uncles eyes, but he kept going. "So why? Why didn't you try to find someone else?"
Not waiting for his uncle's answer he said, "Because you still feel committed to her. After five years, you still want to hold on to her as long as you can."
Still his uncle said nothing. "So if your still holding on after five years, how can you except me to let go only after one?"
Adam left the kitchen to return to his room. He couldn't understand why everyone wanted him to move on. He wasn't ready to move on, and he thought that he would never be able to. He told Lexi he would love her until he died. Until the rhythmic beating of his heart had stopped. Until angels closed his eyes.
He looked up and Lexi's smile caught his eye. How could he get over her? How could anyone replace that sparkling smile? These were questions he didn't know the answers to. He didn't even want to figure out the answers. He didn't want to realize that he could get over it.
He sighed, then said, "Lexi, why are you doing this to me? Why do I want to hold on to you so badly?" He asked these questions as if Lexi was there in the room with him.
Suddenly the telephone rang, and it caught his attention. Soon his uncle knocked on the door with the phone in hand. "It's your mother," he said handing the phone to Adam then leaving the room.
"Mom, I'm not in the mood for arguing..."
"No, my intentions aren't to argue with you, Son," she interrupted.
"Then...what's goin on?"
"I need to apologize."
"Yea, I'd say so," he said angrily.
"You can't blame me for wanting you to be happy, Adam."
"How is dating other girls going to make me happy?"
"You could forget the pain your feeling, and find someone else who could help you be happy again."
"Mom, there's no one. The pain won't disappear because of a random girl. Just please stop. When I'm ready to move on, I will. Until then, I don't need you bugging me about this."
"Adam..."
"Mom, please. Just stop."
He hung up the phone and set it aside. He got up off of his bed, where he was sitting, and opened the door to walk out.
"I'm going down to the beach. I need to do some thinking," he told his uncle.
"Need company?" his uncle asked sympathetically.
"No, thats okay."
He walked out of the house, and took his short walk to the beach. The waves crashing against the shore was peaceful to him. He sat on the warm sand and looked out at the water, then up at the sky. He sighed, while trying to hold back his tears.
"Beautiful day out isn't it?"
Adam looked over to see a girl with a big smile, looking down at him.
"Yes, very beautiful," he replied, trying not to be rude.
"Do you mind if I sit down?"
Adam didn't want the company, he just wanted to be alone, but he said he didn't mind and she sat down beside him.
"Soo..." the girl said cautiously.
Adam looked at her confused.
"I'm Katrina," she finally said while offering her hand.
Adam just looked at her hand, then finally took it to shake it. "I'm Adam."
"Nice name," she said offering a smile.
"Thank you..."
There was a pause between them before Katrina finally said, "Theres a party, later tonight at my house. You could come if you'd like."
"No, I'm not really in a partying mood. But thanks for your offer."
"Oh...are you sure? It will be really fun."
"No, I'm not in the mood for fun either," he said irritated.
"Oh, well I'll give you my address just in case you change your mind."
She took out a pen and a little notepad from her purse. She wrote down her name and address.
"It'll be around 8 tonight," she said as she handed Adam the paper. "I hope I see you there."
She got up and walked away, and Adam starred at the paper she had given him.
Few a few hours passed, Adam got up and started to walk home. He mentioned the party invite to his uncle.
"It won't hurt anything if you go. It'll give you something to do, maybe take your mind off some things."
"Yea, I suppose. Do you mind taking me. It starts around 8."
"No I don't mind at all."

Wow. Your stories sound like something I've heard before. But in a different way. I like the way you say things instead. It makes me want more, even though I feel like I've heard it. |
