Gabe was lying on my bed when I came out of the bathroom.  The tube top he had given me looked wonderful on me.  The green matched perfectly with my skin tone and the cut made me look 5 pounds lighter.

 “You look great Mel, now let’s going or were gonna be late.”  Gabe exclaimed as he made his way towards my open window.

 “Wait.” 

“What?”

 “Thanks for going through all this trouble just to get me to a party.” 

“It’s no problem really, don’t worry about it.”  He said this as he swung his body through the window carefully and then jumped out of view.  I grabbed my white flip flops and fallowed Gabe’s lead, I fell bare foot into the bushes. 

“You know you’re supposed to balance on the banister before you jump to the ground.” 

“I do now.”  I said as Gabe held his hand out to help me up.  The tendons in his arm being exposed as his muscled flexed at my weight.  His arms looked wonderful underneath the rolled up sleeves of a black shirt. 

“Now, you have to be careful now Mel, I don’t want to have to drive you to the hospital.” 

“Alright.”  I said as I brushed the leaves that had stuck to me when I fell off my jeans and made my way towards the drive way in the front of the house. 

“Melody!  Where are you going?” 

 “To your car.” 

“Melody my cars this way.”  He grabbed my hand and pulled me over to the other side of the lawn towards the tall white fence. 

“Why is your car this way?”  I said exaggerating the “this way”.   

 “Because if my car wasn’t over here it would be in your drive way, which would be in few of your parent’s bedroom window, which in terms would be in view of us getting caught.” 

“Oh.”  Now, that made sense.  Why am I so clueless when I am around him? 

I stared at the ground as Gabriel made his way over the fence and then held his hand out to me so he could help me over. 

“Now, be careful.  There’s a thorny rose bush right on the other side of the fence.  I leaned over towards the other side of the fence, trying not to lose my balance.

“Okay.” 

Gabriel jumped over and landed easily on the grass next to the rose bushes.

 “Now, Melody just swing your leg over and force yourself to jump over the bush.” 

“Okay.” I swung my leg over the fence just as Gabriel had told me to.  I landed in the same exact spot Gabriel did but, I lost my balance and fell backwards into the bushes any way.  

 “Ouch ow  ow  ow!”  I exaggerated as the thorny mess pierced into my skin.

 “Melody,  don’t move you’ll just make it worse.  Here, let me help.”  He sounded irittitated but, he made his way closer to me.  He placed his hand on my leg and slowly removed the tangle of thorns from my leg.  Then, he leaned over me and started to take the thorns out of my hair.  I was almost out when the back lights of my neighbor’s house came on.
