A week later…….

My phone rings just as I am about to get out of the shower.  The spicy smell of my old spice body wash lingers on me.  I look in the mirror at the black eye that appeared on my face over the night, ignoring my phone knowing it’s not Angela.  Maybe she’s right maybe I should do something about my step-dad.  Maybe I don’t need him like she says.  Maybe I should wait until schools over.  What if I wait until someone else calls the police on him.  Even though Angela is the only one who knows he beats me.  Leah noticed my bruises the other day while we we’re hanging out at her house.  She accidentally touched the one on my thigh while she was sucking on my neck, she thought I had got it from another girl, I told her I got it skateboarding. God.  I wish he would just die.  I wish he would get drunk one night and just drive into a lake or crash into some tree on the side of the highway.  Maybe if he died I and my mom could have the insurance money, although that bastard can’t be worth much.  It might be enough to pay the bills while I finish school.   My phone starts to ring again this time I answer it.

“Justin?”  It’s Angela, she sounds sick I hear the melodic sounds of my favorite band escape the fate in the background.

“Hey Ange what’s going on?”

“I ahhh I just called to tell you that you’re a fucking bastard.”  Her voice is slurred, I figure she’s drunk, why is she doing this?

“Angela your drunk, I’m hanging up.”

“No wait wait don’t hang up I needa ask ya something.”

“Okay what is it?”

“Do you love me?”  I hear laughing in the background and horns honking, I she in a car?

“Angela where are you?”

“I am hanging with some of my friends, Ones that love me, what’s it to you?”

“Angela are you driving?”

“Noooooo, My friend Matt is driving he has a nice car.”  I hear the skidding of tires and someone turns down the music and yells “get out of the road you ass hole!”

“Angela has Matt been drinking?”

“How should I know?”

“Angela I think you should-“I hear sirens and I hear a girl yell “Matt oh Matt the cops are behind us go faster.”  I hear Angela laugh, its cold not the same sweet giggle I remeber from before.

“Justin I have to go.”

“No Angel-“but the line already went dead.
