It was late October, so it was quite cold outside. Olds Cemetery was my destination, and I treaded along the road with only four stakes, my sword, and an arrow gun.

As I crept through the gates, I knew that there was a good chance I would be killed here tonight. The only thing that kept me going was the fact that I had to protect my family and friends. With butterflies in my stomach, I weaved through the tombstones, careful not to make any loud noises. A loud screeching sound came from the front of the cemetery and caused me to wheel around. Someone was walking through the gates, and it was one of the faces I loathed the most. It was one of them. A vampire, and I was the vampire hunter, or in other words, their prey.

They all had dark hair, black almost. Each of them had a cape-like thing with a red trim along the edges, and the rest of their clothes were black. Their skin was unnaturally pale and flawless, and their facial features were perfectly straight and angular.

I grabbed my weapons and quietly took cover behind a large tombstone, hoping they hadn't spotted me yet. Looking back, there were now four of the filthy bloodsuckers. The youngest male sniffed the air and looked in my direction. He took a step toward me but the oldest female placed a hand on his shoulder.

"I can smell him. If we want to go home, he will have to be disposed of," he said impatiently. Still staring at me, he shrugged the female vampire's hand off of him and glided over to the other male. "Father, please let me get this one. I can't take it anymore. I can keep control of my senses, trust me."

"Allen," the older male said, "be patient. Take Maria with you and find the human. Then you are to bring him back to me. Alive." A low growl came from inside Allen's chest as he went over to the younger female.
He took her hand and said,"Come Maria. We will get this one." She followed him without protesting. When I noticed that they were coming right toward me, I gripped one of my stakes and got ready.

I tried to run to a safer area, but the vampires were faster. Just as I turned around, they were there with a wild thirst in their eyes. I sprinted toward them as fast as I could. When I got close enough to them I raised my stake. Allen grabbed my arm just as I did and pulled me to the rest of his coven.

"This one is clearly not as skilled as the others," Maria said. As she spoke, I twisted out of Allen's grasp and aimed my stake straight for Maria's heart.

It plunged straight into her chest as I hit the mark perfectly, oh so perfectly. She let out a scream of agony and then fell to the ground. One down, three to go. I pulled out my sword and froze where I stood. Right in front of me were three vampires who were obviously determined to get revenge.

The oldest male was the first to strike at me. He bared his teeth and lunged. I dodged his attack and prepared for the next one. It wasn't until the older female disappeared and came up behind me that they actually did any damage. She had decided to catch me off guard and hit me from behind. Then everything went black, black as pitch.

When I woke up, I couldn't remember if it was a dream or not until I saw the tombstones around me. I sat up, and immediately I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder. I looked at it and saw what I feared would be there. Two holes, bite marks.

Depending on how long I had been out, I would become one of them soon. I knew what had to be done to stop that, and I quickly grabbed my sword.

Holding it out in front of me I examined the blade. It was sharp and I was sure I would be able to do it. I pulled it back towards my body and it dove straight into my chest. I fell over. Everything started to go numb, and my eyesight went blurry. Then slowly, I drifted out of this world into the next. I had failed.

We had to write macabre stories in language arts earlier this year and I really liked mine. What do you guys think?
