What the hell was I doing?
It was all I could think about during art class, and I am usually very focused during that class, being that it is one of my favorites. The teacher had sent the girls to drawn one still life of a model car, and the boys to another of flowers. Most people complained, but I found the complexity of the car and its many parts very fun to draw.
When art was finished, and I had turned in my drawing, I walked out into the hall waiting for Rayner. After about 2 minutes, a voice behind me said “So, what are you doing?” This caused me to jump. I turned around and saw that Rayner was standing behind me.
“Jeeze Rayner,” I responded “You scared the crap out of me.”
“Sorry sugar,” he replied with a smirk on his face “I am just a very suppressing guy. People tend to think things about me before they even get to know me. “It’s quite annoying actually. Oh well, lets get going.” He took my arm and began to walk me out the door.
“Rayner,” I interrupted “I need to go to my locker. Get a jacket, put away my assignment pad and purse, and then put my cell phone into my jacket pocket.”
“Oh yeah, well umm… here, why don’t you put your stuff into my locker, and use my sweatshirt, then you won’t be cold.”
I placed my stuff into his locker, and then put on his black sweatshirt that was just a little loose on me. I put my cell phone into the zipper pocket, and turned to face him.
“So Rayner, what is your amazing plan to actually get us out of the school. Aren’t there video cameras or something?”
“Well yes there are, but they didn’t expect one thing.”
“And what, pray tell, might that be?”
With that Rayner took my hand, walked down one short hall, and opened a fire escape exit that had a “Do not open or alarm will sound” sign on it.
“Yeah right,” said Rayner “They actually expect us to believe these things.
With that he swept his arms out in an “after you” motion, then took my arm and walked me down the fire escape stairs. When he reached the bottom he held onto my arm but continued to walk a little faster. When I gave him a curious look as to why we were walking he replied “It’s just until we reach the trees up ahead, I don’t want us to get caught.”
I was nervous about skipping class, but I honestly didn’t believe that Rayner would hurt me, or let me get in trouble. I didn’t know why, but I really felt like I trusted him. When we reached the trees, we went about five trees deep into the woods, and then sat down against the back of one of the trees. I looked at Rayner and he laughed. I smirked back and said “What?!”
He looked at me and said “You should have seen the look on your face. Jeeze Miranda, we are just skipping a couple of classes, no need to act like we committed a federal crime or nothing!”
Wait, a couple of classes? I thought we were only going to be missing second period. I was going to say something, but I again found my self looking into his purple eyes and saying something unexpected. “Yeah, your right, I mean, what’s life if we don’t live a little.”
With that he smiled, stood up, reached a hand to me, and when I took it we preceded to continue walking through the woods hand-in-hand to what even place he may be taking me.
Oh man, what the hell was I doing? This is so unlike me. Something must have changed me in those eyes of his. Or maybe it was his personality, so sweet yet funny. Or it could be the way he really talked to me. Or it could be the one option that I didn’t want to consider, but I was pretty sure was true. It could be that maybe, just possibly, I was falling for this amazing emo boy named Rayner. My life was about to get far more complicated, but when I was with him; I found that I just didn’t care about all of that.
