- Being rejected a few times can hurt. But being rejected 26 times exactly burns like acid pouring down on the heart. I never thought being brave by telling a guy I liked how I felt could backfire so badly. When I was denied the 26th time in the 10th grade, I was fed up with it. So that night, as I stared at the velvety sky, I wished upon a wishing star. How was I supposed to know that he would show up saying he wanted to marry me?!
