• Chapter 20—

• I awoke to the usual screeching of my alarm clock, my hand etching its way towards the ‘off’ button. Once it was silenced, I stared into space, replaying what had happened last night. I felt the anxiety crawling up from the pit of my stomach and to the opening of my throat, threatening to explode at any moment. I heaved myself up from my bed and trudged to the bathroom, not bothering to bring my school clothes to change into. As I let the warm water run over my body, I suddenly remembered that Eros was attending my school. A flicker of happiness crumbled at the fact that his exchange meant I’d have to see him 7 more hours than what I was used to.
• Still half-asleep, I wrapped a towel around my torso and walked back to my room, where I got dressed in a blue-jean skirt, a brown wide-neck sweater and brown country boots.  I slipped silver hoop earrings on and put my hair up in a barrette. I admit I looked a bit over dressed for the 46^rth day of school, not that I gave a crap. I finished getting ready for school faster than usual, so I sat on the front porch swing and waited for Miranda to show up. Birds chirped nearby in the trees along the dirt path while a pair of larks flew by. I watched them in envy. There they flew, side by side, with no troubles what so ever. They didn’t have to worry about their mating being interfered with, only about getting killed.
• My eyes wandered to my hands in my lap. This day wasn’t going to go be easy. It was going to be as hard as swallowing a freaking horse pill. The screen door creaked opened and Keith sat down next to me. I was surprised to see how well he cleaned up. His matted hair was styled into a sexy array of spikes; he had shaved the tuff on his chin and lip, but kept his sideburns to the middle of his ears. He was wearing a plain black t-shirt and Khaki shorts, his many earrings shimmering in the bright sun.
• “How long are ya gonna mope about this?” he asked benevolently.
• “As long as I want. Why? Does it bother you?” I grumbled, averting my gaze.
• “Ay, it does.” He sighed, draping his arm over my shoulder and resting my head on his outrageously built arm. “That Eros, he really does love ya. That’s why he didn’t wanna tell ya bout that Psyche woman. I can’t really help ya with anything more for I’m just a notorious pirate. Nothing much I can do anyways, ay poppet?”
• I scoffed and snuggled closer to his warm figure. “I guess.... it doesn’t really make any sense. All he has to do is say ‘no’ to her and be done with it! It’s as simple as that!” I fumed, throwing my hands up in the air. Keith caught one of them, the arm that was around my waist pulling me closer so he could trace the crevices with both hands. Even if Keith confessed his love to me many times in the past, he still felt like a big brother to me most of the time. Key word: most. His thumb drifted across my palm and back in the same pattern. It didn’t bother me.
• “Ya know....” he began, “I may be a rum-drinkin, slang-throwin, pirate, but I can tell when two people are in love. I should know....” he gently pushed me off so he was able to see my facial features. His hands—which had had 19 rings all together (that’s possible)—held my face. He leaned in and kissed my forehead affectionately, standing up after he smiled weakly. “Just make the best of what ya have....ya never know when it can be taken away from ya.” He said softly, returning back inside the house just as Miranda pulled up in her Jeep. I grabbed my backpack and got inside.
• “Hey, you didn’t answer my calls last night. Whatsup?” Miranda questioned, pulling out of the driveway and then driving down the passageway.
• “Nothing... a lot has been going on lately...that’s all.” I melancholy replied. She glanced at me with her nose wrinkled, and then faced straight ahead. The rest of the ride was quiet until we got to the school parking lot. I was the one to hop out of the car hurriedly instead of Miranda, who sat behind and stared after me. I was striding to the front doors when Taylor passed by. He waved, but I ignored him.
• “Miranda,” he greeted as she stepped next to him. “What’s up with Jae?”
• “I don’t know. She’s been like this all morning.” She replied. Irritated, I spun around and glared at the two. I probably should’ve gotten off the top steps before I blew up like I did.
• “Would you two drop it?! There is nothing wrong with me! So stop talking behind my back! Both literally and metaphorically!!!” I barked. A silver Mustang pulled up to the school and...Well, you know who stepped out of it. He was wearing a white button-up shirt, a pin-striped tie and black jeans that clung to his legs. He paused to stare at me like everybody else was. It took everything in my power to snatch my gaze from his and storm into the building. I didn’t want to stick around for when the girls started squealing and drooling over the new student, Sean. My Sean. When I was at my locker doing the usual, that unmistakable candy scent seeped into my lungs and I looked over my shoulder. Sean had one of his hands in his pockets while the other held his sling-over backpack. A group of giggling girls was hot on his tracks....already. I growled inwardly at both of them. His turquoise blue eyes flickered to my face and stayed there for second, until a girl walking his direction dropped her binders in sight of his features.
• He helped collect her stuff, the whole time she was staring at him in disbelief. And then he was off again to his locker. Sneering, I snatched one binder at a time and rammed it into my metal closet. I was in such a rage that I didn’t notice Taylor leaning on the lockers next to me, reaching into my backpack and handing me my books. Only when he lifted the backpack itself up from around my neck did I see him smirking wryly.
• “Oh! Jeez you scared me!” I screamed, holding a hand over my chest. He watched me catch my breath. “Look I’m really sorry about the whole....talking behind my back thing.”
• “It’s fine. Now I understand why you’re so mad.” He gestured to Sean a few lockers down with a ring of girls surrounding him. He seemed so insensible of them, it was ridiculous. Rolling my eyes, I pressed my binders to my chest and walked to first period. Taylor followed beside me while fumbling with his camera. As we passed by the new posse, Sean turned around and practically jolted when he saw his fans. Was he blind or something?! Ha—he could just see this as punishment for earlier—one move and he goes POOF in front of everybody. I turned my nose up and literally marched off.
• (I'm so sorry for not keeping anybody posted on the previous two chapters, i didn't have any time *it was supah late =\* anyways, if u missed those chapters, plz go back and read em!
