• Chapter 13—

• “So...” he began, now lying on his back. “You ran all the way here?” I glanced up from my work.
• “Yea.” I replied; I was proud of myself too.
• “Wow. You’ve managed to impress me yet again.” He smirked.
• “I told you to get used to it.” I mumbled cutting the string and tying it in a small knot. I ran my fingers over my creation, making sure there were no loose spots, and let him examine it after I wrapped gauze around it. I’m sure he muttered something close to ‘amazing’. My hands, jeans, and my shirt were smeared with blood. His blood. I stood up and headed towards the bathroom to clean myself up and to change clothes. I wasn’t surprised when I came out of my room to see Eros back at his usual post. Had he learned nothing?
• “I must say you are quite the trooper.” He smirked, handling the same knife more cautiously. I sauntered over to him, and I don’t know what got into me, but I wrapped my arms around his waist and rested my head between his shoulder blades. They nudged my face when he carried on with his cooking. He then stretched over to the left for the sugar, the whole time I held on. Inhaling his sweet scent, I could remember the times were I sat in the kitchen watching my parents do the same thing; except it was my mom cooking and not my dad. He’d whisper loving words to her in her ear and nuzzle his nose on the crook of her neck. I smiled at such a fond memory. My heart was beating fast as it always did when I was around Eros, like so much love was surging through it that it wanted to cry in pure happiness. Eros’ bandaged hand gently grasped one of my arms, loosened its grip so he could twist freely in my arms, and faced me in his normal state. I was ready to apologize when I saw it. In his eyes was not displeasure, but passion. Was he enjoying this?! Well, I didn’t mean that in a disappointed way because I wanted nothing more than for him to accept me. It was just that I was readying myself for his disapproval rather than his delight.
• “S-sorry...” I whispered, my cheeks flushing greatly when he tilted his head back with that crooked smile.
• “Don’t be.” He replied just as softly. His face became delicate with sympathy, his eyes—sparkling and half-closed, and his hands, which had found their way to my face, traced the curve in my lips while the other intertwined its fingers in my hair. My breathing started to come out rapidly, causing my pulse to do the same. His face was now less than 5 inches away from mine as he stared into my eyes.
• “This isn’t real...it can’t be.” I shook my head in his hands.
• “Who says it’s not?” he asked.
• “It’s common sense! You’d never allow yourself to be this close to me. And you’ll transform at any moment.” I frowned.
• “I never said that.” Eros said, obvious pain in his voice. “The only reason I was distant was because....” he trailed off as if he was thinking on how to word his next sentence wisely. “....because I’m not a good person to be involved with, Jamie.”
• “What?! That’s ridiculous! You are good person, Eros! You’re way better than me! You actually give people a chance at love!” I boasted.
• “See, that’s where you’re wrong. People only see me as the guy who grants needy lovers wishes, but it’s nothing like that. All those suicides you hear on T.V.....they’re my entire fault. For you see, the only thing I’m doing is listening to somebody’s thoughts of love and uniting them with the one they want. Then the 3^rd person in that triangle gets their heart broken because of me. I can’t control my arrows. That’s why.....I’m worried that I’ll lose you on that fateful day. Just the thought of seeing you with another man is unbearable.”
• “Eros, I--” he cut me off by holding his finger to my lips.
• “Let me finish, Jamie.” He breathed. “I....if there was some way I could...” he sighed heavily through his nose and hung his head. “If there was truly some way I could explain how much you mean to me, I’m afraid it wouldn’t do. My love for you is like Hera’s hearth—never allowed to go out—it burns my heart with so much passion, that I have to be distant so I won’t ruin everything between us with three words. When you touch me, smile at me, or even blush, I become overwhelmed with my emotions that I turn into my sensitive self. That’s why I ran the other day. Besides, I can’t stay here forever. And when I leave...I don’t want to leave you broken hearted. I would hate myself for hurting you like that.”
• I was in too much of a stun to say anything. Was he for real?
• “Those three words....” I uttered. “....say them to me.”
• He looked at me with confused eyes. “What?” he asked.
• “Tell me those three little words.” I repeated. Eros then understood what I was hinting for and held my face in his hands again. He stared into my eyes as I did to his. They flickered back and forth.
• “I love you.” He whispered. I went light-headed, my heart was out of control, I couldn’t comprehend one thing from another. This is what I wanted more than anything, but my body and soul wasn’t prepared for the near heart attack I was receiving. I laughed once in amusement. I looked up at him with a curved smile on.
• “This Jamie Sauerwine has always loved you.” I grinned, tears brimming in my eyes. Eros faintly smiled back, it disappearing as he focused on my lips. I waited patiently as he lowered his face and his lips pressed against mine. Had I known he even tasted like candy, I wouldn’t have been so greedy to taste more of it. My arms squeezed around his torso and gripped his shirt in my hands, his chest crushing mine when he did the same. His large hands tilted my head back and I went up on my tippy-toes to relieve him of having to lean over too much. I was upset when his soft, perfect lips left mine and pulled back slowly.
• When I opened my eyes, he was biting his lip in what seemed to be pleasure. His hands caressed the back of my neck and went through my hair, where he pulled me even closer to him. I was relieved of my anxiety when he kissed me again, this time it was deeper now that he knew his limits of breath. My head spun in endless circles and I was fairly dizzy.
• “Oy! What do ya think ya doin with mah Poppet?!” a husky male voice barked. I broke free and looked at the front door to see....
