• Chapter 17-Darkness

• ‘Forgive me Kagome, but this is the only place I feel comfortable in.’ he thought hours later as he landed in Tokyo. His legs were wary and shook with each step. Finding a hidden meadow, he transformed back to his regular state, laid Kagome’s sleeping form down on the grass, and passed out. The thump caused her to jump and awaken. She saw him sleeping heavily and decided not to disturb him.

• Kagome yawned and lifted his arm to sleep with him. Snuggling closer, she sighed and felt him tighten his arm around her stomach.

• When she woke up, he was no longer there, but a yard or two away. He was sitting with his legs crossed, hair up in a ponytail, and his back towards her. It seemed like he was thinking about something deeply. Not knowing if she should approach him, she sat there in the awkward silence. “Kagome.” he said. Kagome glanced at his back. “Yea.” She answered. He paused and then finished what he was going to say.

• “It’s alright to come near me. I....I’m feeling better. I guess I was just.....not well.” He whispered. She went over to him and sat behind him, laying her head on his shoulder. He laid his hand on hers. “I’m glad. I was beginning to think you were being distant.” She smiled. “Kagome?” he began. She nodded. “You would still love me no matter what I looked like right? Even if it was for only a couple of hours?” he asked. ‘What does he mean by that?’ she thought crooning her neck out to see his face. InuYasha turned more away from her gaze, afraid of what she would see. “InuYasha, why won’t you look at me?” she whined. “Because...” he grunted. His body shook from rage. “Because I’m afraid that you’ll leave me once you see how...how disgusting I look!” he barked bowing his head. She was shocked that he had said such a thing. “Why one earth gave you that idea? InuYasha I...I love you like no other! Why would I leave the man I love the most because of how he looked? And what are you talking abou-” she gasped as he faced her.

• InuYasha’s gorgeous golden eyes were now a blood red and his fangs were growing from the side of his mouth. As well as his claws, they were as sharp as knives. No more were the adorable Kawaii ears or his dragon tails he had; now in their place were demonic ears like Sesshomaru’s. “Wha-what happened...” she said quietly observing his unruly hair. He sighed heavily and tried to hide his face by placing his hands over it. She made him remove them.
• “You don’t have to explain it if you don’t want to.” She said. There was another pause of him thinking of how to explain his current condition.
• “There are 3 sides to me: InuYasha, InuYoukai, and InuNingen-half-demon, full-demon, and human. When I experience extreme power that I can’t control, I turn into InuYoukai. When I get extremely weak, I turn into InuNingen. My real state is InuYasha seeing as I am born of a human mother and a full-demon father. But every new moon I become InuNingen. Every half-breed has one night when they lose all their powers, and for me it’s that night.

• “But...this has never happened to me before. Usually I still have my dog ears and now I have these. I guess that the demonic aura from the Red moon mark was so overwhelming that it just changed me completely. I have no clue if this is permanent or if it’s just for a while. Either way...tonight is the New moon and I’ll transform into InuNingen. That should subdue InuYoukai and hopefully I’ll be InuYasha again. You see those mountains over there? When the sun sets behind them, I should transform into him. And when the sun rises above those trees I’ll hopefully be InuYasha. I know this is a lot for you and I’m sorry if it’s...scary.” he explained. Kagome sat there smiling in such a sincere way that it scared him. “Why are you looking at me like that?” he asked.

• “I dunno...maybe because I think my boyfriend is getting worked up about his ‘time of the month.’ All and all, I love him no matter what so he shouldn’t worry about me or what I think.” She mused. “Personally...I don’t understand why it’s such a big deal that you change when you get powerful or you get weak.” InuYasha slammed his fist down and made her jump.
• “Because it’s your thoughts that mean the most to me! It’s your worry or pity that bothers me so much! I can’t stand to see you sad, non-perky, or mad at me because I care about you too damn much that it hurts to not be near you for even a second! And....and I want to be with you forever. And I want you to want to be with me...I don’t want us to be separated. I would do anything for you. Anything in the world; name it and I’ll do it.  I’ll protect you always, including from Shigure. He’ll never lay a hand on you again!” he shouted. “And...Why are you giggling?”

• Kagome was blushing madly but her expression was that of a happy one. “Oh InuYasha-kun, you’ve made it clear that you’ll protect me and how much I mean to you. It really makes me glad to hear you say those things. Yet, I think I’ve heard enough to make my head burst.” She confessed. He softly said ‘oh’ and blushed as well. “Hey.” She piped up standing on all fours. InuYasha glanced at her face which was an inch from his. Since she was beside him, he forced his gaze forward and not sideways at her. “Koi...” she called. This time he looked at her, slowly closing his eyes as the space between their faces disappeared.
