The Perfect Mistake (chapt. 29)

  • The Perfect Mistake
  •
  • Chapter 29—
  • *The next day-2:35 p.m.*
  •
  • “Suzette, would you slow down?!” Alice cried racing after her.
  •
  • “I’m sorry! It’s just that I’m so excited to be finally getting my wedding dress!” Suzette giggled. Alice slightly frowned in sudden realization that her friend’s bubblieness was for nothing. Truth be told, she didn’t want to marry Cyril as much as she wanted to before she slept with Jake. She had overheard Suzette mumbling about it while she combing her hair since she just got out of the shower.
  •
  • A vivid sign was perched on top of a two story building with the words “The Bride’s Heart” written in elegant letters on it. Suzette rushed inside, oooing and awwwing at the rare variety of dresses. Most of them were decorated with flashy things—pearls, rhinestones, stuff like that—resulting in a very pricey conclusion. Sighing, Alice wearily followed her inside, remembering the promise she had made to Lian hours ahead of time.
  •
  • ‘Promise me you’ll act normal. Don’t bring anything up about you-know-who.’ He said sternly.
  •
  • “Alice, Alice! Come here!” Suzette called from behind a row of dresses. “What do you think of this one?”
  •
  • She held up a white ball gown dress adorned with vine designs and that had a tie-up in the back. Almost immediately Alice’s eyes widened and began drooling over the gown.
  •
  • “Try it on!!!” she demanded, shoving her into a dressing room. “Hurry up! I wanna see it when you come out!”
  •
  • “Alright! Give me a second!”
  •
  • *Jake*
  •
  • “Damn....my fist still hurts from last night....” Jake muttered, clenching and unclenching his fist in front of his face. He was heading (walking) to downtown to see a friend at his pizza joint. He wasn’t in the mood to drive; mind his sore hand. His eyes watched as his sigh turned into a silvery puff and dispersed.
  •
  • ‘I wonder what she’s doing right now......she’s probably forgotten about the whole fight, knowing her....Maybe Cyril was right—I had no right to show up unannounced to her dinner.’  He thought, shoving his hands into his puffy jacket with the fur around the hood. ‘What am I saying? I had every right to be there! We’re practically inseparable! Well....we used to be, at least. Then again, she never broke-up with me. So she’s sorta my ex......what an atrocious thought that must be for her. I’m better off not seeing her again. All I have to do is avoid Starbucks, Spaghetti Warehouse, and Contours. Simple enough. I got it.’
  •
  • Another sigh slipped his guard. Before he knew it, he was strolling down a street with very few cars or people—not that he cared. The only thing he could hear was the distinct sound of girls giggling in a nearby store. He paid no mind to them. That is, not until he glanced in the store they were in.
  •
  • His lips parted, showing his glossy teeth, at a woman standing in front of a wall-heighten mirror. He could feel his knees weaken as he scanned her over, begging the gods she wasn’t there. He cried out for his legs to move, but they were frozen from shock. The woman glimpsed at his form in the mirror, and faced him with just as much surprise.
  •
  • ‘Jake....?’ Suzette thought, horror-struck. He stood there wearing a dark blue jacket, an ivory sweater and dark jeans. Jake’s eyes memorized her slim figure dressed with a gorgeous gown. From what small experience he had, he was able to tell it was a Cassandra wedding dress.
  •
  • It was a white ball gown with black vine embroidery across the alluring neckline that reached around to a detailed back that shimmered when she adjusted under his intense stare. The soft —yet glossy-looking—background seemed to distinguish her well-rounded breasts more than usual by the way the fitted bodice created a sleek silhouette. On the back was a strap-up closure with a black silk bow that was at least a foot long, making it a very full A-line skirt. The same black embroidery slightly crawled up the front of the bodice between her chests, around her hips, and back to the front on the bottom brim of the dress. Obviously that was her sign of showing she was no longer a virgin........
  •
  • Her flushed cheeks only made it harder for him to not embrace her right then and there. Jake kept his eyes locked on hers with such pain sketched across his facade. She was trying not to look into his mind-boggling eyes, but she couldn’t manage to tear her eyes off his pale face. Jake suddenly remembered he had to breath, choking when he took in air. She took a weary step toward him worriedly, and watched him cough repeatedly. Suzette opened her mouth to say something when Alice’s voice interrupted her.
  •
  • Jake’s eyes fled above her to where the noise came from, and then back at Suzette. Without a word, he frowned and spun around, dashing down the street in an attempt to escape her sight. A shaky hand rose to a pair of quivering lips, stifling the cry of agony threatening to burst.
  •
  • Suzette collapsed to the ground even though the dress wrinkled in the process.
  •
  • “Suzette?” Alice called frantically, leaning over the railing. “Suzette! Baby what’s wrong?!?!”
  •
  • Her voice sounded so distant, like she was in another store completely. She continued to sob hysterically as she was rocked back and forth by two thin arms, the constant shushing only making her feel even worse. The hole....the hole in her chest from so many years ago ripped open, tearing her in two. Her arms fled to her stomach and she hid her head in her knees. Her teeth gritted together, her lips quivering still, her hands remained shaky. Was god trying to ruin her wedding?!
  • (that would make me cry too if i was in that situation and i saw my ex. =[. *sighs* well, plz vote and comment, thanks. yall rock!~Dott)
