I didn’t want to scare him away. I’ve been told that sometimes I can be very intimidating, but I couldn’t help the way I felt towards him. I had hidden my feelings for way too long, it was almost unbearable. I was just so excited to be able to share my feelings with the one that I was in love with. He pulled away from me so suddenly, that I was startled. He smiled, got out of the pool, grabbed his towel, and walked out. I was utterly speechless. I got out and grabbed my towel, confused as hell as to what happened. I just didn’t understand, I poured my love out to him, I kiss him and he just leaves me hanging like that. I’ve never felt a rejection like that before… WOW! Trust me it was not a good feeling.
After I had dried myself off, I took the stairs so I could sneak into my room. It was 3 in the morning curfew was 11 PM. When I walked in Jessica, Tennille and Erin were already asleep. So I changed clothes and climbed in bed with Jessica. I must have startled her because she stirred and woke up.
“WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?? I called your cell and you never answered. You had us worried to death Tyff!” She scolded me.
“Girl, I’m sorry, but I really don’t want to talk about it. We’ve got a long day ahead of us and I’m already going to be a bitchy performer tomorrow. I’ll explain after prelims, okay?” I snapped.
The next morning I was up before anyone else, which is very unusual, I don’t do mornings. = ) I got my shower, put on my show uniform and caked on the show makeup. I pulled my hair back, grabbed my equipment and ran out the hotel door. I really didn’t feel like explaining my actions of last night just yet, and I knew if they had the chance they would start in on me. I paced back and forth through the lobby, just hoping that he would be the next person to walk out of the elevator. He never did.
I waited for what seemed an eternity for the guard to get down stairs so we could practice our routines together and warm up. By the time they got there it was time to load up the buses and head to the dome for prelims. The ride over there was excruciating for me because I didn’t get to see Greg at all. We walked in the back way to get to our warm up space on ground zero of the dome. After stretching and throwing some practices tosses, we were well on our way to the 50 yard line of the Indianapolis Colts field at 8 am. We set up our equipment and performed a flawless show.
Now that the prelims were finally over with, we go relax until 5pm when we had to go right back to the dome for the announcements of ratings and who made it to semi-finals. According to Mr. Harris we had nothing to worry about since Bassett High always made semi-finals and plus we handed them a perfect routine. We all piled back up on the buses and went to the hotel to get out of costume. I stripped out of my competition wear and threw on my swimsuit. Just as I was about to walk out of the door, it flew open and everyone piled in wanting to know the details of last night. Somehow the information leaked out and from what I understood our whole high school back in Virginia already knew about it. I was petrified of what everyone was saying.
“So, what happened between you and Greg last night? We all would love to know?”
