Just Another Love Story Chapter 1
“Hello Jessica it’s nice to see you again. My I take your stuff?” Marcus’s butler said.
“No I can carry it, thank you. So will I be staying in my usually room?” I asked.
“No, they have gotten you a bigger room, follow me.”
A bigger room, the room they have me usually stay in was already larger than the room I have at my house back home. How could my room get any bigger? We walked up two flights of stairs. I’m glad I only needed to bring my personal items, and that they bought some clothes for me because I would be really sad if one of these servants had to carry my bags up all these stairs.
“Here we are.” The butler said as he opened the door.
“Thank you, um what’s your name?”
“Gregory.”
“Well thank you Gregory.”
I stepped into the room, and Gregory closed the door. It was huge. The bed was twice the size of the one I normally had, it had its own bathroom, and it had a walk in closet. The closet was full of clothes. On whole wall had dresses, tops, pants, skirts, and every other type of clothing. Another wall was full of shoes, and the back wall was full of jewelry. It doesn’t seem right I get all this stuff, and just thinking about how little all the servants in this house have.
“Knock knock,” I heard a familiar voice say as the door opened.
“Luke.” I said as I ran out of the closet, jumped on him, and embraced him in my arms.
“Nice to see you too,”
I jumped down and we looked at each other and laughed.
“Sorry for like attacking you, but it’s been a while.”
“It’s been only half a year Jessica.”
“So your point is.”
“Well, I just came to say hi. I am actually not supposed to be here. Marcus doesn’t like when I am out of his sight. You know how I’m not really supposed to talk, and he knows how you are my friend. He thinks of me as competition.”
“I think Marcus is paranoid.”
“Well, it’s nice to see you again but I’ll try to find some other time to talk later tonight. Don’t fall asleep okay.”
“Okay, Luke do you think it is right I get all this stuff and others don’t”
“Well, I wouldn’t say it’s fair, but we worked hard on getting this stuff ready. I guess we might feel bad if you didn’t use it.”
“Yeah I guess so. I’ll see you later then right.”
“Yeah,” Luke said as he went out the door and down the hall to Marcus’s room to see if he needed anything which Marcus always needed something. I don’t think there is a time when someone might ask Marcus if he needs anything and he would say no. Marcus seems to think he needs to always have something for his servants to do. It doesn’t seem right, but what can I do.
I walk around my room. Everything seems too good to be true; the bed with a satin comforter, the detailed paintings on the wall, the huge bathroom that is next to the closet, and the clothes inside it. It just seems like I just got lucky, and was born into a rich family. I’m not an idiot though. I can see what our two families are doing, and I’m sure Marcus is okay with it. I’m not though. I don’t want to be forced to marry some stuck up jerk. Some guy who is full of himself. I want to actually find love. I don’t want an arranged marriage, and no matter how much they make me come here I will never like Marcus. I will never fall for someone like that who only cares about himself.
“Miss Eniola, Marcus has requested you guys go for a picnic this afternoon. You should get dressed; a nice sun dress would work. You will leave in an hour.” Gregory said as he came through the door. Was there no privacy, no knocking.
“Okay,” I told him. “Do you mind just knocking before you come in.”
“Sure Miss, I’ll go tell Marcus you will be going on a picnic with him.”
Gregory left my room and I walked into the closet again. I am still taking in aw by everything in here. A nice sun dress; they are all nice and there are tons of them. I think I’m going to go with the yellow one. It was a really pretty yellow, and it had a nice pattern. Plus yellow is my favorite color. I grab some nice sandals to go with it, that way I can take them off and put them on easily. It’s not like I want to look good for Marcus, but I might as well. I don’t have to be happy about this, but I like picnic and being out side. I fix my curls. I can never decide if my hair is black or a really dark brown. I don’t think it really matters, but it just is something that has puzzled me.
“Are you ready?” I heard Gregory say. I am guessing they assigned him to me.
“Yeah.” I said as I stood and let him lead me to the front doors.
“You look beautiful.” Marcus said as he reached for my hand, and I put both of them behind my back. As usual Luke was standing next to Marcus, and I saw Luke snicker a tiny bit. I wanted to laugh to but I had to look serious.
“Should we go?”
“Yeah, Luke, get the basket.” Marcus said as he pointed to the huge basket by the door.
I stand between Marcus and Luke. I didn’t want to be on the end, and I know that being next to Luke makes the whole situation feel better.
“So this looks like a good spot.” Marcus said as he came to a halt.
What a picnic we were about 10 meters from the house and this wasn’t even by the garden. It was just a big grass area. Luke set up the picnic, and then Marcus ordered him to go sit by the tree.
“It’s a lovely day almost as love as you.” He scooted closer.
“Yeah, umm, this food looks delicious.”
“Yeah, sure does.” He grabbed my chin.
“Umm, I am not really comfortable with this.”
“Oh, I’m sure I can make you more comfortable.” He pulled my head to closer to his.
“No this isn’t help…” I didn’t get to finish my sentence before he kissed me. I tried to push away, but Marcus must have gained some muscles while I was gone. I then got my hand on the back of his head and pulled his hair.
“Ouch, that hurt. Don’t get so into it Jessica.”
“Into it, I hated that. I will never like you Marcus.”
“Shh, don’t be so difficult.” He pulled me closer again and started kissing my neck.
“Marcus stop.” I yelled at him.
“Shut up Jessica, just enjoy it. I am.”
“Enjoy what.”
He stood up and looked around. “You and I are going to get married. So I might as well get some enjoyment out of our situation and you might want to do the same. You are pretty and you aren’t going to go around with other guys so just get your enjoyment with me and we will both live happily ever after.”
“Marcus I will never marry you. I would run away or even kill myself before I would be with you.” I was so sick of him by now. I just wanted him to die. Heck, I would kill him myself if I didn’t have control of myself.
He grabbed my arm and pulled me up.
“You will be with me and I don’t care if you kill yourself after we are married and we get all your family’s money.”
“So this is about money.”
“NO, it’s about you being mine till you die, and also about money.”
“Let go Marcus. Let go of me Now!”
“Or what?”
“Or this,” I said as I punched him straight in the nose.
He dropped me and I went sprinting into the garden. I can’t believe him. I am so sick of him. I ran past the flowers. Petals were flying everywhere. I had no idea where I was going, but I knew I was running. I kicked off my sandals as I came to the edge of there land which was marked by a long metal fence. I climbed over it and scrapped the back of my leg getting down. It didn’t stop me though. I ran until I couldn’t run anymore and then when I could breathe again I ran again. I came to a forest. I had never been this far from their house. As I walked through I stopped when I came to the sense someone was watching me. I got shivers all down my spine. Goosebumps formed all over my body.
“Hello?” I said hoping not to get an answer back.
I walked and stopped when I heard a twig crack. Maybe that was me. I looked at my feet. There where no twigs next to my feet at all. Maybe it was an animal.
This time a branch fell down from the tree above me, but it was the same noise. I didn’t dare look up I just started to take some steps back.
“Hello? If there is someone out there say something because you’re freaking me out.” I said as I stood still silent waiting for an answer.
“I’m sorry if I frightened you, but I didn’t know people came here, or well people like you, what were you doing running through thorns.”
“Umm, no, where are you?”
“In the tree above you. What’s your name?”
“What’s you name.”
“Demetri.” He said as he jumped down from the tree and landed in front of me. He was nothing but some common boy, well not a boy he was a young adult; probably my age. “What’s yours?”
“Do you know a Luke?”
“Yeah, but you didn’t answer my question.”
“I don’t think I should answer that. Are you friends?”
“Yeah, we hang out when he doesn’t have to serve the Odile boy Marcus. How do you know him?”
“My name is Jessica.”
“See now your not answering my other question, Jessica. Jessica as in the Jessica who always goes to live with the Odile’s for the summer; as in Jessica Eliona?”
“Why would that matter?”
“It doesn’t just curious. Why are you out here?”
“I was, umm, getting away for a while.”
“Marcus annoying you?”
“How do you know I even know Marcus?”
“Well I can tell, because you know Luke, and sometimes Luke says how bad he will feel when you get here and he has to watch you get “annoyed” if you know what I mean.”
“I never said I knew Luke.”
“Then why did you know his name?”
Dang it, I suck at this type of stuff. I don’t know why, but Demetri seemed sweet in a way. If he wasn’t interrogating me I might have felt less at unease.
