A night of stars
|
I picked up the small, green fold-away chair and walked outside. The wind was warm upon my skin; the night sky clear, except for a few scattered clouds on the horizon. I smiled. What a night to be star-gazing.
I hadn't planned this little escapade of mine, but now that I was out here, I was enjoying every moment. I opened my little chair, placed it on the ground and got comfortable. As the clouds slowly drifted closer, I let my mind wander.
The stars were playing hide and seek with the clouds; the moon was playing the ever watchful parent and the wind was playing music in my ears. Soon, the night became no longer about star-gazing, but rather, about dreaming. Dreaming of a world where all things were true, dreaming of a world where the sky is always blue... ok, ok, hold up, it wasn't that over-the-top! Yet, all the same, it was quite amazing. To lose yourself to your mind; the power it wields over your world, your body, your life. I was amazed, frightened, mesmerized.
It was quite scary, the things I thought of that night. I thought about time - its immensity of a thousand years over my short 15. I thought about the past, the present, the future - which soon led me to quite a headache. So I waded forward through the tangled intracacies of my thoughts and I thought about people. How every life is different, yet every life runs parallel in the race to the end. How every death is so imminent.
I knew these thoughts were immense and most only figments of the imagination, yet they pulled me into their webs of life. Life - something that I can't even begin to comprehend. By this time I think I may have been dreaming, but in my 'wakeful' moments it all seemed so real. I looked up at the deep velvety night sky and found that the once far off clouds were above me, covering the spying stars. Stars that every now and then would wink at me and I'd smile, thinking what a simple life those giant, burning balls of gass seemed to have.
Just then I realized that, for quite some time, a plague of mosquitoes had been viciously attacking my bare legs. Hurriedly, I tried to shoo them away. Swiping, swatting and, almost, kicking and biting. The night was getting late and, failing to defeat the invasion of bloodsucking bugs, I decided it was time to head inside.
Slowly, like an old man standing after a hundred years of sitting, I got out of the small green fold-away chair. I picked it up, folded it and stashed it away in the corner. Walking through the doorway, heading for bed, I was silently anticipating my dreams to come. Dreams of a world where all things are true, dreams of a world where the sky is always blue...
