"I love you" she said to him, as she pleaded with him not to go.  Not to leave her life forever.  He sighed, and looked into her eyes longingly.  Then he took her hands in his and brought them to his lips and kissed her milky white fingers.  So soft she thought to herself, so warm. She felt herself relax in his tender embrace.  Then he lay her hands by her sides again "No, you don't" he said with a note of remorse in each world.  He turned with little hesitation and started to walk slowly away from her.  She looked at him with disbelief, her body paralyzed with the abruptness of that instance, trying to make sure that the moment had actually happened, and this wasn't some sick twisted nightmare.  She tired to yell out.  Tired to stop him, but the worlds caught in her throat as the tears started to form and all she could manage was a gasp of air. It reminded her of the sound a mouse would make when caught in the yellow stained jaws of some unseen monster taking its life away in a small fraction instant.  What could he mean, how could she not love him.  The man who gave her so much comfort in the void, the lonely darkness, an utter abyss that threatened to take her to deepest pits of hell she called life.  But he was there for her he came and took her from the horrid stench of her life.  She loved him more than anything she could imagine.  She would do anything for him, anything he wanted, if he would just stay with her.  Before she could let loose a single word of these thoughts, to tell him all of this, before she could even utter the words that her mind was forming.  He was gone, absorbed into the winter mist that had sprung from the very Earth itself, as if to swallow him whole.  She tried to run after him but her legs wouldn't move and she fell to her knees and put her hands over her eyes and did the only thing that she could do, the only thing she felt like doing, she cried.  On another plain of existence, however, two men stand next to her, yet they are galaxies apart. A short man is the first to break the silence, wearing a black suit and bowler hat that hides most of his features, all but the frown his normally straight face now wares. "Was that the nicest thing to do?  You could have been happy you know that right?  She would have loved you?"   The other man, the one who just a minute ago was standing face to face with the girl looks at the man and with a tone saturated with sorrow says to him "She loved me once before and it still turned out like this.  No, better for her to hate me, for her to want to forget the pain, so that she can be happy here.  Hate is the ultimate destroyer of pain.  It will take hers and instead of her going back to the way she was, now maybe she can forget, while I may not be there with her, the anger will.  It will give her strength; it will do what I can't.  Then one day she'll forget, the anger will fade with time and she'll be able to enjoy the rest of her life.  Maybe this way we both can try and live a better life."  They walk away, far away from the crying girl.  Both men enter the newly formed mist and walk away disappearing forever.  The girl still on her knees continues to cry oblivious to the conversation that had taken place just feet from her.  After what seems like hours the crying finally stops, not from choice but from sheer dehydration, in frustration she closes her fist and smashes it into the ground.  Blood trickles slowly down its perforated surface.  Her head hangs low as she slowly rises from her knees.  She doesn't bother to move the long auburn strands of hair from her face, instead she keeps them as a tribute to the sadness and anger now welling within her.  With her blood stained fist still closed she walks home.
