Chapter 8
As soon as the question left her mouth, Chantal became extremely self-conscious. She became aware of how close their faces had become, not even a foot separating them. She watched Cedric’s expression become one of shock as he instinctively flinched away from her. She cringed and was about to open her mouth to apologize when Cedric’s face broke into a smile and he leaned back into the table, laughing.
“And whatever would make you think that?” he asked.
“Well,” Chantal said slowly, watching his expression carefully, “First of all, you always buy a bunch of food for lunch, but never eat any of it. You never seem to eat anything. Second, you’re way to fast and graceful to be normal. I’ve seen you walk across an entire room in, like, just a second without tripping. Third, your skin is way to cold to be normal. Don’t think I couldn’t feel that when you caught me. Also, your eyes have changed color, they were almost black last week and today they’re extremely light, and you just said you don’t wear contacts. And finally, in case you haven’t noticed, you and your siblings are unbelievably, inhumanly beautiful. Haven’t you ever thought that these might just be all of the signs of vampirism?”
Cedric smiled and told her, “Well, I’m flattered that you think I’m beautiful,” – Chantal blushed – “but I believe the only way for me to answer your question is with another question. If somehow I were this kind of a creature, then would you be afraid?”
“Of course not,” Chantal said confidently.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes,” she said, holding her head high.
Cedric leaned in closer so his face was only inches from hers. He stared directly into her grey eyes until she began to blush and fidget in her seat. He laughed softly as the bell rang, signaling the end of the lunch period.
“See you in English,” he said before picking up the tray on the table and walking swiftly out of the room.
And, for the second time in just a week, Chantal was left sitting alone. But, instead of feeling irritated or annoyed, as she usually would, she felt strangely happy. She was in an almost surreal state of bliss as she drifted out of the cafeteria, down the hall, and to her locker. She was just getting her things for her afternoon classes when Amber and Tori rushed up to her, their faces bright with excitement.
“So, did he ask you out?” Amber asked, curious.
“Huh?” Chantal asked, still floating in her dreamlike state.
“Cedric,” Amber said slowly, enunciating every syllable, “Did he ask you out?”
“Oh, uh, no he didn’t,” Chantal said calmly.
Amber made a face, “And you’re not mad?”
Chantal shrugged, “Nope.”
“But, don’t you want to be able to claim that you’re going out with him or something?” she protested, “I mean, he is the hottest guy in the grade.”
“It’s not that important,” Chantal said, “I mean, I just met him, and he doesn’t seem to be showing any interest in anyone else, so what’s the rush?”
Tori widened her eyes in surprised, “Really? That’s so unlike you, Chantal.”
Chantal shrugged again and began walking towards the English classroom, attempting to hold onto her composed appearance. Still, she couldn’t help but wonder the same thing as her friends. Normally, she would feel extremely irritable in this kind of a situation, but today, she felt strangely fine with it. Tori was right; this was unlike her. But somehow, this was different than everything else that had happened to her. It was different than all of her previous relationships. She had a feeling that this was going to be more than just another relationship she was going to just throw away. No, this was going to be more than just that, much more.

do you usually copy and paste from word? that might screw it up a little. They used to have a button that said "clean up messy code" and it would get rid of those things. Try posting it, and then change the fonts and stuff. idk... are you adding anything to it? I think it might have to do with the style of font that you're using.
