My parents have always been way overprotective. They’ve always felt the need to “approve” of everything I did and everyone I hung out with. I have always tried to convince them that this wasn’t necessary but they never listened.

I come from a rather wealthy family. My father owns a large and successful company, so my mother just stays home all day, doing whatever she wants. And that leaves me, one of their darling children, their pride and joy. Pshh… as if.

My parents have always favored my twin sister over me. She’s that popular, preppy, unbelievably blonde cheerleader who’s absolutely perfect. She’s constantly being showered with attention, and people will do anything she wants them to, even if she’s a complete bitch about it.

I, on the other hand, have always been a disappointment to my parents. I’ve never been that picture-perfect rich girl who’s always well behaved. My parents have never let me express myself for who I am, even though they were willing to get me almost any toy, clothing item, or, more recently, car I’ve ever wanted. When I was younger, I didn’t really feel restrained, but as I grew older, I’ve felt more and more held back by my parents. So, in the past two years, I’ve began to dress myself in my own style, which is a mix of gothic and emo fashion. I’m naturally pale, but I have recently dyed my blonde hair black to make my look more convincing. I’ve begun to wear all black and lots of black makeup, and I’ve much more rebellious, both at school and at home, much to the displeasure of my parents.

So this is my life; my horrible, miserable life. Oh, how I wish I could change it. If only I had the courage to defy the wishes of my mother. If only I was born into a different family. If only I could make everything different. Then, my life would be better.
