Part 11

Manami felt her stomach clench in fear as soon as she heard the words blaring in the cold nighttime air. They had always been warned by the authorities and always scolded by the authorities. Their antics had always been kept under the radar; they had never been brought out into public like this. And the girls always preferred for their actions to be kept quiet. Attention would only get in the way of succeeding in their activities.

“What’s going on?” Chiyeko hissed angrily at Manami, who was standing closest to her. “Why are they here? How in the world did they find us?”

“I don’t know,” Manami whispered back, with just as much acid in her voice, “we didn’t do a single thing wrong!”

Chiyeko narrowed her eyes suspiciously, “Did you or the other two tell the authorities?”

Manami widened her eyes in shock, offended that Chiyeko would even think of such a thing, “Of course not! Why would we want to get caught? That would just make more trouble for all of us.”

Chiyeko’s expression changed to one of confusion, “If none of us told them, then who did? There’s no way they could have figured this out on their own.”

“Hey, you two!” a tall woman dressed in black ordered. “Get over here! We need to talk.”

Manami bit her lower lip. This was not the way she wanted to spend her evening.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All four girls shivered in the cold, grey room they sat in. The room was completely empty except for a desk, which a slender, eerily beautiful woman sat behind. There were no chairs in the room, so Manami, Chiyeko, Miyuki, and Kimika were forced to stand. Their hands were bound with energy-cuffs, and Chiyeko’s hands twitched angrily. It almost looked like she was pinging someone, but that was impossible. Her eyes were narrowed and focused intently on nothing in particular. After a few moments of awkward silence, Chiyeko’s eyes finally settled on the woman sitting behind the desk.
“Who are you? What do you want?” Chiyeko demanded. “And how did you find us?”
The woman smiled, her black, wolf-like eyes glinting menacingly. Her pale skin glowed flawlessly and her perfect, slim figure was accentuated by the suit she wore. It hugged her body at just the right places, and the short skirt and tall heels brought out her long legs. She folded her thin fingers together and crossed her legs. When she spoke, her words were sharp and polished.
“Calm down, Chiyeko,” the woman’s smile broadened when Chiyeko flinched at the sound of her name. “Oh, don’t look so surprised. I know everything and everyone in this city. Nothing can escape my attention.”
Chiyeko’s eyes flickered impatiently, “You still didn’t answer any of my questions.”
The woman chuckled softly, “Oh, I’m terribly sorry. Did I forget? That’s so silly of me. Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Harukira Kurayami. I am the head of the Secret Police in the city of Tokyo. And I’m not pleased with the way you four have been acting. It wasn’t too hard to find you. I knew that you four crash every major party of the year, and so I had my scouts go to the Sachi Towers holiday party and watch for suspicious activity. And, although you for are disguised quite well, they were able to pick you four out of the crowd. Now, I have done a little bit of research, and I have found that there was no trouble at all in the city until about three years ago. And ever since we’ve been finding these all over the city.”
Harukira held up a silver necklace with a metal pendant on it: a pentagram with a broken heart in the middle of it. Chiyeko flinched again as soon as she saw it. It was her metal emblem. The very same emblem she left at every party she crashed. The same one she left with every person she left unconscious.
“Care to tell me what’s going on, ladies?” Harukira asked.
Manami’s eyes widened. There was no way to get out of this one.
“You’ll never get anything out of us,” Chiyeko said, her voice blazing with anger.
“I believe I will,” Harukira smiled, showing off her sharp white teeth. “You see, Chiyeko, there are security cameras covering every inch of this facility. They are of the highest quality and they’ve been made with our most advanced technology. No one can get in or out of here unnoticed. Besides, I’ve got all four of you here. There’s no one else who’s willing to come and get you. Face it, Chiyeko, you can’t get away.”
Chiyeko smiled slyly, “Oh, I beg to differ.”
Harukira laughed, “What are you ta
Before she could finish her sentence, a loud explosion filled the air. A blast shook the wall and everyone in the room was showered with a rain of plaster and metal. A thick cloud of smoke followed soon after the explosion. Chiyeko grabbed her four friends and pushed then through the giant whole in the wall. The three girls stumbled and blinked, trying to find their way in the hazy corridor. Chiyeko reached to her neck and pulled off the long necklace that she was wearing under her dress. She dropped her emblem to the ground before quickly following after her friends. If they were lucky, they would be able to get away without any difficulty. The only problem is, they were never that lucky.
