Part 10
Miyuki slowly walked down the hallway, trailing close behind a group of unsuspecting Sweets. As they turned to walk onto the elegant elevator, she silently stepped into the shadows next to them. All of them got off on the next floor and, as the doors slid shut, Miyuki pulled out the mini remote that Chiyeko had given her and clicked a button. Suddenly, the elevator halted to a stop. Miyuki quickly climbed up, into the elevator shaft. Just as she’d hoped, she found a ventilation shaft to climb through. She pulled herself into it and started crawling through it as quietly as possible, glad that she chose to wear a knee length dress instead of a floor length one. She clicked the button on her remote again so the elevator would continue to move as it was supposed to.
She crawled silently through the ventilation shaft until she found the vent in the Security Room. She carefully lifted the vent up and looked into the room. Just as she had expected, the room was completely empty and devoid of all security cameras. She lowered herself into the room and searched for the switch she was looking for. Her almond shaped eyes quickly scanned the various buttons and switches in the room until she found what she was looking for. She reached out with her gloved hand and flipped and pressed fourteen different switches and buttons, shutting off all of the security cameras in the Towers.
Miyuki quickly pulled herself back up into the ventilation shaft and replaced the vent. She silently crawled back to the end of the ventilation shaft and waited. While she did, flicked her fingers and spoke into the communication system that was patched through her skin.
“Hey guys, the security cameras are all off, but we’ll probably have to act quickly or else the authorities will get suspicious,” she said in a hushed tone.
As soon as Miyuki made it back down to the ground floor, she began to discretely placing various rainbow colored sparklers around the bottom of the room. She looked up the tall room at the many Sweets walking around on the floors above. She was able to spot her three friends, who were also placing sparklers in every possible place. Once Miyuki ran out of sparklers, she took her position, which was on the side of the dance floor. She smiled. It was only a matter of minutes until the sparklers went off.
“Now,” Chiyeko’s voice quietly ordered over the skin-com.
Miyuki took out her remote again and pressed a button. Suddenly, all of the lights in the building flickered off, the music stopped, and the sounds of Sweets shrieking and running around in confusion filled the air. About thirty seconds after the power went out, the sparklers kicked in, filling the entire building with glittering, flameless sparks. From the outside, Sachi Towers seemed to be glowing.
Miyuki ducked her head low and darted as quickly as she could out of the building. She wove through the thick crowds of people and into the lawn outside. The cool air slapped against whatever skin was exposed as she stepped towards where she thought her hoverboard was hidden. As she continued to run, she caught sight of her friends also running towards the same place. As she drew closer, she could see confusion on their masked faces. She crinkled her eyebrows, confused until she got closer and saw what they were confused about. Their hoverboards were missing.
Miyuki stepped cautiously next to them and asked, “What’s going on? Where are our boards?”
“Put your hands where we can see them!” an authoritative voice commanded over the loudspeaker. “You’re all under arrest!”
