Part 4

Chiyeko could feel the icy cold shards of the ice skating rink tingling against her arms and face, making her mask decompose into a cloud of dust. As she fell, the wind whipped at her hair, pulling it out of its braid. The dark, grassy ground grew closer and closer to Chiyeko’s face, and when she was about three feet away from the ground, her lifters sprang into action. Her arm-lifters lifted up towards the sky and her feet were dragged down towards the ground. She bounced head over heals several more yards before finally coming to a rest on the ground. She immediately began running towards where her hover board was hidden, looking back over her shoulder to make sure she wasn’t being followed. Her eyes quickly scanned her surroundings, looking for any security guards or hover cams, when she spotted him

<<His Point of View>>

He was standing on the lawn near Aiko Mansion, looking up at the explosion in the sky. He smiled softly, his eyes twinkling in excitement. He lowered his gaze and took a sip of his champagne. He jumped in surprise as a black streak darted past him. He looked in the direction it had gone and saw a girl with the most dazzling ice blue eyes, a color that was rarely seen in the city these days. He became captured in her gaze, and he would’ve liked to watch her as long as he wanted to, but another girl, also dressed in black (one of her friends, he assumed), grabbed her and dragged her away, both of them disappearing into the darkness.

I have to find out who she is, he thought, I have to find her.

<<Chiyeko’s Point of View>>

Chiyeko stared at him, captivated. All of the noise and commotion around her seemed to fade away and she finally felt at peace for the first time in three years. She blinked. This had only happened one other time in her life; and when she had let that get to far… no. She was not going to let that happen again. Luckily, Kimika came running by her, grabbing her arm and taking Chiyeko with her. Chiyeko took one last look at his face, engraving it in her mind, knowing that she’d remember him forever.

As the four girls flew through the dark forest to Chiyeko’s apartment, they laughed about their accomplishments of that night. Not only had they crashed the Aiko Mansion bash, not only had they exploded the object that provided one of the most “entertaining” way for Sweets to spend their nights, but somehow they had managed to not get caught. This night had given them reason to celebrate. As the other three girls giggled and talked, Chiyeko remained strangely silent.

Miyuki turned to Chiyeko and raised her eyebrows, “Chiyeko, what’s wrong? You’re being way too quiet tonight! I mean, come on! We crashed one of the biggest parties of the year! Aren’t you even a little bit excited?”

“Yeah, it’s just that…” Chiyeko started to say before her voice trailed off.

“What?” Miyuki asked curiously.

“Oh, nothing,” Kimika teased, “it’s just that when we were leaving Aiko Mansion tonight, she just happened to have the privilege of meeting one of Tokyo’s elite.”

Manami’s eyes grew wide. “Chiyeko? Really? Omigosh, who did she meet?”

Kimika smiled, “None other than Tomoaki Fujitaka of the infamous Aiko Mansion.”

“No way!” Miyuki and Manami exclaimed together.

Tomoaki Fujitaka was one of the most famous residents in Tokyo. He had created one of the newest, most popular trends, based on one of Japan’s oldest artistic accomplishments: manga. His clique all surgically altered their faces to look like manga cartoon characters. They made their eyes wide and innocent, their noses small but cute, and their lips full and pouty. They died their hair bright neon colors and then puffed it up, making them look cheerful, carefree, and innocent. In their own, unique way, they looked perfect. The Manga clique was a group of typical Sweets.

“Oh, shut up,” Chiyeko complained, with venom in her voice. “First of all, I didn’t meet him; I merely passed by him. Second, there is nothing special about him; he’s just like every other brainless Sweet in this stupid city. And, finally, why is this such a big deal?”

“No offense Chiyeko, but you’re kind of a loner, and I saw that expression on your face when you saw him. It’s really not like you to get all dreamy over some guy. I think you might love him,” Kimika teased.

“I don’t love him! I hardly even know him,” Chiyeko protested as she unlocked the door to her apartment. “What in the world would make you think that I liked him even the slightest bit?”

“Because,” Miyuki pointed out, as they all stepped into the bright apartment, “you’re blushing.”

Chiyeko’s heart pounded as she brought her fingertips to her cheek, which was, indeed, warm. A panicked look filled her eyes. Oh no, she thought, it really is happening again.

Manami looked at Chiyeko, who was still standing by the doorway with a frightened look on her face. She raised her eyebrow, “What’s wrong, Chiyeko? Are you afraid of falling in love?”
