[[okay... so last night i graduated from middle school... it was a really emotional time because i'd been with most of the people in my class for nine years... and i'm probably not going to see most of them for a very very long time (to say the least)... this is a letter one of my classmates, Laura, wrote to all of us... so all credit for this letter goes to her... but i thought this letter was really touching and, well, it made me cry... so please enjoy!]]
Dear Bentley Middle School Class of '08,
So last night was the last night that all of us will probably be together ever again and I just wanted to say something to all of you, a kind of commencement. Our class was different, to say the least. We were probably hated by almost every teacher at some point, but the same could be said for being loved. No matter how much Ms. Pogrel screamed at us, or we got another lunch taken away for a makeup class in Critical Thinking or History, there was an overwhelming agreement that we were maybe the smartest class to ever go through Bentley Middle. We were the class that frustrated teachers not only by being totally obnoxious and destructive at times, but also by asking questions that even they couldn’t answer, and not just about school either. And that’s pretty cool if you ask me. We all have our times I’m sure when we felt like nothing was going right; I mean that’s what middle school is about right? But when it came down to who really needed help, you could always find someone to put that smile back on your face again. Our grade may not have always been the closest, most seamless grade at Bentley but we always came together when it counted. I don’t think any other class to as long as us to get our chairs for Friday’s town hall either. But at the dance? We were closer than ever…with almost everyone close to tears when it ended. It was definitely sad but I am sure that everyone is going to do great in high school, whatever you all choose to do. Our class is the kind of class where there is an overwhelming amount of talent, brilliance, artisticness, athleticism, and overall greatness. I would not be surprised if from our class was born the next sports star, Picasso, Aristotle, or the person that discovers how to end world hunger. I have high hopes for our class and I think you should all too. This letter however is not to tell you all what to think about our class, because only you could decide that, I would just like to let you into what I am feeling about it right now. From the headlands to Red Woods, winter concerts to choir performances, PE capture the flag to football games, and everything in between, you all have my 4 years here the best I could have asked for. Our class may not have always gotten along, and there are times I’m sure where each of us didn’t want to go to school, but look at us? We made it….Mr. Lyon and all. We will keep in touch with those we want to, and we will have more memories with some people than others, but I don’t doubt that after last night, you don’t all feel a little closer. Some of you spent 9 years here, some only spent 1, but we made those years for each other. We dealt with the tests, the projects, the presentations, the teachers, and the pressure, but we did it together. Everyone in this class had to take the same Science test, make the same History power point, run the same mile, get yelled at about the dumbest things by a certain yard duty teacher, and we did it together. Our grade was unique, as the teachers said, and they will definitely remember us. But most importantly we should remember us, because only we really know what our class was about, and no one can tell us differently. Everyone I’m sure has their own opinions about their experience at Bentley, and this is just mine. But I thought it was important to maybe have one letter that everyone could look back on pieces and have their own, “oh ya I remember that,” moments. So to all of you, to the Bentley Middle School Class of 2008, thank you for making my 4 years here what they were, we’ve had some great times.
Love,
Laura
