In a Perfect World [2]

I slowly pulled my eyes open as the sounds of music woke me up. I sighed as I dragged myself out of bed. My body felt heavy and I felt tired and sad. I turned on the light and looked around my messy room. I took a deep breath and walked over to my closet to pick out my outfit for the day. I chose a pair of skinny, dark wash jeans and a long, red babydoll shirt. The shirt had little white apples all over it and it was one of my favorite shirts. I was so glad that I had chosen my outfit the day before. At the moment, I was too distressed to think about what to wear. I quickly changed and put a happy smile on my face. I wasn't about to act like anything bad had happened. Especially not at home.

"Imogen!" I called down the hallways to my best friend. I felt a genuine smile form on my face for the first time this morning.

"Dita!" Imogen shouted. She ran down the hall to greet me. I hugged her and gathered my books for Chemistry. "So what's up?"

"Ummm," I started to say as I caught sight of Masao walking in front of us. I felt my lips forming a pouty frown when I finally said, "Not much..."

"Are you okay?" Imogen asked. "You seem sad!"

"I'm, um," I said, not wanting to lie, but not wanting to tell the full truth at the same time. "I'm fine, Imogen. Don't worry."

Imogen gave me a questioning glance but didn't say anything. "Masao!" she called. "Masao! I need to talk to you!"

Masao turned around, his hazel-green eyes looking straight into mine for a split second before looking at Imogen. I forced my facial expression to be normal as I walked straight past him. Imogen stopped to talk to him, giving me a look that said 'I'll catch up with you.' I nodded and walked up the white stairs to the Chemistry Lab.

*Imogen and Masao*

"You left me a voicemail last night saying, like, 'I'm sorry, please don't kill me.' What was that about?" Imogen asked.

"Uh, it's... nothing," Masao said.

"Is it about me?" Imogen asked. She hated it when people talked behind her back.

He shook his head to say no and walked up the stairs to the Chemistry Lab. Imogen followed, her face still unsure.

*Dita's Point of View*

"Is it really not about me?" Imogen asked as she and Masao walked into the room. The sound of Imogen's voice jolted me out of my daze. I blinked twice and smiled weakly at Imogen.

"It's not about you," Masao assured her, his voice playful, "You just have to trust me!"

Imogen sighed and said, "Okay, fine. I believe you. Happy?"

Masao raised his eyebrows and asked, "Why don't you trust me?"

"Because you have that sly look on your face," Imogen explained.

"Sly?" Masao asked before taking his seat. "What's that supposed to mean?"

Imogen ignored him and looked at me. She held out her arms for a hug, which I gladly accepted. She gave me another questioning glance before Kaia burst into the room.

"Heyyy," she exclaimed before pulling both of us into a hug. "What's up?"

Before either of us could say a word, Ms. Pelgor walked into the room, and signaled for everyone to settle down. I sighed. This was going to be a long day.
