Karleigh stepped out of her 2005 Jeep Cherokee and glared at it's peeling hunter green paint job. The Jeep had been a graduation gift....for her mother....when her mother graduated...And Karleigh had willingly accepted it. But then again, that was when she was 15, she was young and nieve at that time, life wasn't so complicated. It was now her turn to graduate, and she was much more mature now. She had survived through her parents divorce, her grandmother's death, and a horrible break-up with her boyfriend of 3 1/2 years. She could survive anything now, or so she thought.

She stopped glaring, and pulled the hood of her jacket up over head, because it had just dawned on her that it was raining. Which I mean, wasn't too unusual for the small town of BrookSide, Alabama. Here in BrookSide, the weather was always changing, hardly ever in season. That's why most people didn't take well to living in these parts, this included Karleigh. Karleigh had never agreed with "Small-town-living", it was not suited for her, and she did not belong here. Anyone that knew her, or had even heard of her, could tell you that much. But she would graduate from BrookSide High, just as her mother had, and she would do it soon. After which she would probably leave as soon as the graduation ceremony was over. She would have to say goodbye to her mother before the ceremony, and that's the only person she would say goodbye to. No one else cared, no one else would be there for her. Just her mother, and Karleigh was sure that her mother wouldn't be happy about the turn out.

As Karleigh neared the side-entrance of the Vocational building, heading for her first-block class, she told herself, "Ok Karleigh, you only have one year. Only one more year to endure before you are set free, and released into the real world with real ideals, and real insight. You can do this, you can survive, after all you've been through, you can do this. This is the first day of your Senior year, you don't have to like it, you just have to get through it. Your grades are good, you managed to make an almost perfect score on your ACT, you can practically go to any college you want. Any college thats plenty far from here, and you'll never have to come back. All you have to do is survive, and you can do it." Her pep talk was momentarily interrupted, by now she had already reached the Vocational bulding, and was seated in a seat in the corner, near a window, where the rain was keeping a steady beat against the window. She was interrupted by a large burly boy, whom she recognized as Peter, from her first-grade class. Mrs. Wallingdrone, he was the "nose-picker".

"Hey Karleigh!" Peter managed to snort out, his curly hair was a nastymangled, oily mess, which happened to go quite "nicely" with his face, "Is this seat taken?"

Karleigh shook into consioucness, and realized he was talking about the seat that was placed next to hers, she was about to assure him that there was probably one of her friends, which was funny enough because she had no friends here in BrookSide, when she noticed an unfamiliar face walk through the door. Karleigh pushed Peter aside with a grunt, and observed, or rather gawked, at the beautiful face that entered the seemingly dillapidated in comparison, threshold. He looked like a Greek God, with curly, and perfectly messy brown hair piled on a completley perfect head, adorned with impecably angular features, all of which were no match for his gorgeous, brilliant, emaculet, heavenly Jade eyes. Which were framed with thick, dense, black lashes that were so amazing it was hard to imagine them belonging to a male face, but they were completley at home there. He was tall, but not too tall, with pale, but not too pale skin. More of a creamy ivory texture that looked so smooth, that is you touched it, it could possibly ripple like a pool of water. But his muscles were the next feature that captured Karleigh's rapidly changing focus, they were amazing. He wasn't body-builder muscled, he was strong, that much Karleigh could tell just by glancing at him (Which would be impossible), but they were hidden underneath a seemingly designer knit cotton elbow-length sweater, but it was a tight sweater, a very pretty grey-blue, slate kind of color. And it made his muscles that much more appealing. He seemed like a painting of an angel that was torn up and the main focus was plastered into a grimy classroom setting, the two did not go together at all. They completley contrasted each other, they were not meant to be, the two simply could not belong in the same universe.

"Umm, hi. I'm new here, my name is Carter, do you mind if I sit next to you?" It was an angelic, smooth, and musical voice that uttered these words. She saw the God's perfect mouth moving, his porcelain lips pronouncing every word flawlessly. And then she noticed that he, the God, was speaking to her, the lowly, invisible, fragile girl. Again, the two could simply not belong. It couldn't work. He could not possibly be speaking to her. She was selfish, and stupid to even think of that possibility, what a stupid stupid girl she was. But he made this face at her, even though it was twisted and layered with confusion, it was perfect. The emotion in his face was like tapping into someone's soul and reading it like a book, it wasn't fair to consume that kind of emotion, that kind of knowledge of what that person was feeling. Especially, of that person happened to be this God of epic proportions.

"That must've been when I passed out. I don't even really remember anything else after that." I told Nurse Green.

"Now, Karleigh, are you positive you ate breakfast? I mean, I just can't fathom why anyone would just up and pass out at the begining of class...Are you sure there wasn't anything else? You're telling me the whole story here?" Nurse Green inquired.

Nurse Green was an intelligent woman. She didn't really belong here in BrookSide either. She was too smart, too knowledgeable with medicine for BrookSide, the small town did not deserve her. She was too valuable for here, she could've easily made it in a larger town like Huntsville, or maybe even Birmingham, but BrookSide? No way.

"Yes Ms.Green, I told you everything. I walked in, I looked out the window, and then I passed out. That's exactly what happened. I swear I ate breakfast this morning, you can pump my stomach if it helps you solve this medical mystery. I had a bowl of Cinammon Oatmeal, with a protein shake, I ate it after I took my shower this morning, and then I came to school. That is exactly what happened. I wouldn't lie to you, I have no reason to lie." I lied.

Of course I had a reason to lie. I had lied about not having a reason to lie, I had lied about not lying, and I had lied to her original question of, "What happened?" But you couldn't really expect me to blurt out "Oh well I'm pretty sure I passed out because the new guy, who is just EXTREMELY gorgeous, aske d if he could sit by me." That would be idiotic, not that I really cared what people thought of me here. I mean it wasn't as if I would actually be staying here or anything, but I mean my mother, Kathryn, would probably like to live here for the rest of her life with out always being known as having "Thats crazy girl" as a daughter, although I'm pretty sure word had already set in.

So as I sat in Ms. Green's office, waiting for her to give up diagnosing me, I dreamt up, what would probably be dull in comparison to the real thing, his face, the Greek God's face. What was his name again? Camron? Calvin? Charter? CARTER! His name was Carter!!! Carter, I would forever repeat it in my mind. Even when i left this town, I'd still try and imagine his voice, his God-like physique, and angelic face. Carter....
