A paw extended out of convulsive, distorted space. There was a splash and the clicking of claws upon contact with wet concrete. Toes spread wide, and the large, padded foot pulled a corresponding head through the same shimmering plane and into our drizzling world. The elongated snout pointed skyward. Behind it, a pair of squinty eyes starred unseeingly at the sky, letting the blessed waters wash the blood from its vision. A cruel gash on the creature’s brow bore witness to a battle its vitiated mind could no longer recount.
Another paw came into being next to the other, and made contact with the ground just long enough to shift the burden back to the other leg. In this manner the creature hobbled its way out of the translucent obstruction from which it had come and into a strange new place. There were walls on either side of it, one patterned with rectangular bricks with curtained windows positioned at a uniform distance from each other. The opposite side was simply a grey wall with what appeared to be a large and sharply angled rubbish bin sitting against it. Many yards beyond the dumpster, both walls ended at a street that ran perpendicular to this apparent alleyway.
The creature limped to a far corner, hoping to remain inconspicuous while it slept. For now, its immense hunger would have to be circumvented.
