It was Thursday morning. Today was the day I was supposed to meet the Conspiracies and Apologies boys at the office, since I was already staying at Christian’s house, that was a hassle.
After I got attacked I hadn’t gone to work in over a week. The detectives said it was best not to go every day. That the guy might be waiting for me one of the times.
We just got finished in the recording studio last night. I enjoyed the studio; I always had fun when it came to music.
Josh played the new CD for the hundredth time; he looked up at me and smiled, “I love you. Did I mention that I loved you?!”
I grinned, “Once or twice.”
He was still freaking out about how great the CD turned out. It was pretty good; these guys were easy to work with.
“Do you want to just do the meeting here?” I asked Christian, Josh and Brody, “We can have them fax the papers over.”
They all looked confused, Brody spoke, “I think we should go. It would make a better impression.”
I grinned, “Ok?”
It was up to me, and they’d already made a good enough impression. I just cared about the music, and the music would definitely sell, but I knew I should probably go in to work anyway. I needed to talk to my secretary, make everything had been ok in my absence.
Brody was freaking out, “We need to go; we need to go! The meeting’s at 9:00.”
“9:00?” I asked surprised, “Why would she make the meeting at 9:00?” I didn’t usually go to work until 10:00.
“Let’s go!” Brody hollered at us all, yet again.
We broke it up into two cars, Christian, Josh and I in Christian’s Lexus, and Brody and Aaron in Brody’s Honda.
We were half way there, and stuck at a stoplight on a busy road, when Josh laughed, “I’m glad were not with Brody, I bet he’s flipping out about now!”
I grinned, this was true.
The light turned green, and traffic slowly started to move. That’s when a beagle in the car in front of us jumped out of the window.
“There’s a dog in the road!” I yelled, “He’s going to get hit.”
Without another word I jumped out of the car.
It was a 55 mph road, if the dog got hit, he would die.
The car directly behind the dog was currently stopped.
The dog trotted into the next lane and I raced after him. A car flew by me. I could feel the wind.
The dog was on the white line between lanes.
I sprinted after him.
He ran into the middle of the lane. I reached for him but missed. A car came speeding towards us. He ran out of the way just in time. I had to dive, barely making it.
My heart was racing.
I was just barely aware I was bleeding. The dog was back in the middle of the road. I ran for him.
He was now running up the road. Shoot! Get out of the way. I was yelling various things at it.
I was running up the road, in the middle of a lane. A car came flying up behind me, he swerved, barely missing me.
Shoot! I thought my heart was going to fly out of my chest.
He ran into the lane to the far left.
This time I was right behind him. I snatched him.
I looked up, to see a car a foot away from me. I could hear the screeching of the breaks.
I closed my eyes, this was it. It all happened so fast, there was no time to move.
Then something plowed into me, but it felt softer then a car.
My body hit something hard.
Then I realized I hit the guard rail in the center of the road. Christian was pinning me there.
I flung my arms around him. It took me a moment to steady my breathing.
He was breathing fast, too. “You’re safe, now,” he said, trying to calm me down.
“I know. Thanks.” I said breathlessly.
I just stood there hugging him for a while, I needed to calm down.
He leaned out of the hug to examine me, “Are you ok?”
“Yeah, yeah. I’m fine.”
I realized I was no longer holding the dog.
“The dog?!” I shouted.
I looked up to find Josh holding it, now sitting in the driver’s seat of Christian’s car.
“Yep, I have the dog. Because that’s what we should be worrying about right now, the stupid dog. You crazy.”
We returned the dog to the car in front of us.
The lady, looking to be a just barely older then us smiled calmly.
“Thank you. My little stinker, what a stinker.”
“Are you freaking kidding me?” Josh asked, “Lady your dog almost got killed, and almost got these two killed, and all you have to say is thanks, and that your dog is a stinker? Freaking, nuts. Everyone is freaking nuts.”
I pulled Josh away from her car window. He was still ranting a bit.
Josh hopped in the back seat of Christian’s car.
Christian walked me to the passenger door and opened it. He always did that.
I hugged him one more time before I got in.
“That was close.” I mumbled.
“Yeah, but your fine now,” he said reassuringly.
I nodded, “Thank you.”
He shook his head, “No, it was nothing.”
The cars behind Christian’s car had piled up. They had been honking for a good minute now.
“Can you two love birds please get in the car? Road rage isn’t my favorite.”
I laughed and got in the car.
