I crashed at Christian’s place, and woke up early, for band practice.
Christian, Josh, Aaron and I went into Christian’s in home recording studio. We all had recording studios in our houses, but Christian’s was probably the best. It got used most often, anyway.
We were in there about an hour, when Alicia came in.
She grinned at Josh. “Do you and Brody actually live here?”
In the past couple days she’d been here Josh and I hadn’t gone home. Aaron had, but was back for band practice.
“Yes, actually we do.” Josh told her, “But shhh, don’t tell Christian.”
Alicia grinned, “Alright.”
Christian was absorbed in the music, and barely noticed the conversation around him.
We spent another hour in the recording studio when Christian asked, “What’s wrong?”
I looked up, to see Alicia sitting cross legged on the table in the corner of the room, leaning against a wall, with an annoyed look on her face.
Alicia just shook her head. “It’s off,” she mumbled, more to herself then anyone else.
“What’s off?” Josh asked.
She seemed to snap out of a trance. “Oh, the song.”
“The song’s off?” I asked.
“Yeah.”
It didn’t sound off to me, but Josh and Christian nodded.
“I know, right?” Josh said, thoughtfully.
Aaron seemed a little oblivious. Then again he was always pretty oblivious. I think he’s high most of the time. You know those stoners, who are always just sort of there, but they’re definitely not there.
Alicia stared off into space. She started to tap her fingers to a beat in her head.
“Can I see your guitar?” she asked Josh.
“Sure,” he said, sounding a little surprised.
She applied the beat she was tapping to the guitar. It actually sounded… Pretty kick ass.
“Can I trade you spots, just for a second?” she asked me.
“A… sure,” I said. “I’m going to go get more cereal, I’ll be right back.”
I grabbed my empty bowl and went to the kitchen.
I refilled my bowl with some corn pops, and then made a quick phone call. It was to my mom. I didn’t want to tell them I was leaving to call my mom, but I hadn’t talked to her in days, and knew she’d be worried.
I spent about a half an hour reassuring my mom I was fine, and apologizing for not having called her in so long.
I returned to the recording studio to find it completely quiet. No music, no bangs, no Josh and Christian blabbering. What? If Josh and Christian weren’t working on music, they were talking. But the room was silent.
Before I could say anything, Alicia spoke, “And that’s how it would sound.”
She hit a button and the room filled with music.
No one spoke, no one moved. I was surprised, it was… for lack of a better word, unbelievable. She took that filler song (a lame song to just fill the tracks on an album) and turned it into a hit? The song was… whoa.
Alicia shrugged, “It was just a suggestion.” She sounded genuinely un-offended, but had definitely mistaken our silence for disapproval, when in all actuality, we were shocked silent. A feet that did not occur often.
She jumped up and stretched, “I’m going to go get me some cheerios,” she laughed, intentionally using improper grammar.
Before we could move, she was out of the room.
I exchanged a look with Josh and Christian. Their faces displayed an equal amount of surprise.
Josh was the first to speak. “She made that song… fucking amazing.”
Josh didn’t swear much, but at this moment his words didn’t surprise me, I was too preoccupied with the previous shock.
“How’d she do that?” I asked.
Josh shook his head and shrugged, “Hell if I know. She was just like, all over the place. Do this, and that, telling me notes to play and different stuff. And then she’s all pressing all of these buttons, then she’s just like, BAM, I just made the most kick ass song ever.”
Christian laughed, “Yeah, pretty much.”
“Dude, dude, we need her to help us with all of our songs, do you think we could get her to help is with all our songs?” Josh asked.
We deliberated for a moment. We all agreed she should help us, but we were arguing over who asked her.
We settled on Christian, he begrudgingly agreed, “I don’t see why it has to be me.”
“Just shut up and go,” Josh said, to me he added in a whisper with a smile, “And because they love each other.”
“I can hear you Josh,” Christian said annoyed, but he left the room, and made his way to the kitchen, we all followed, but stopped in the hall, ears pressed to the door.
We couldn’t hear anything for the first bit, but then one sentence got through, just loud enough for us to hear. It was Alicia, “I don’t know, I didn’t want to tell you this, but your band members are annoying as hell.”
Then the door flew open, and we all fell on the floor.
Josh laughed, “Yeah, you’re real funny, huh?”
Alicia grinned, “I think so, yeah.”
We spent the next three days in the studio. We had gotten hardly any sleep, and had lived on Pizza, M&M’s, cereal, and Chinese food. We barely left the recording studio, and surprisingly, it was all… fun, really fun.
Who new a three day no sleep, music, and take out food binge, spent with four of your friends, could be that fun... yeah, well when you put it like that it sounds fun.
