Josh yelled, and Christian and I woke up at the same time.
It took me a few seconds to figure out where I was.
I ended up lying on top of Christian on the couch.
I didn’t want to move, Christian was warm and smelled really good, but I sat right up.
That was awkward.
We both mumbled awkward apologies for how we ended up sleeping.
I was still really tired, and highly doubted I could get any sleep if Josh was around, so I decided to make a Starbucks run.
“I’ll come with you,” Christian said, in that really cute voice of his.
“Me too,” Brody said, barely awake.
“No you won’t,” Josh told Brody.
“Why not?” Brody asked annoyed.
“Because… I would miss you’re splendid company too much.” Josh laughed.
“What is you’re problem?” Brody asked, as Josh dragged him out of the room.
“You kids have fun,” Josh shouted on the way out, in a mocking voice.
Christian and I walked to Starbucks, traffic was really bad, and Starbucks was close.
We were silent most of the way.
Christian smiled, “… this is awkward.”
I laughed, “Yeah, I know.
“So let’s make it not awkward.”
“Let’s” I smiled expectantly.
“Ok, what’s your favorite color?” he asked.
I laughed, “Ok, yellow and blue, but together. You?”
“Green, what are your favorite movies?”
“300, Mulan, and Pride and Prejudice.”
“Why?” he asked.
I shook my head, “You’re cheating, it’s my turn to ask you a question. Umm, favorite… candy.”
“War Heads.”
“Oh I love those!” I exclaimed, “I used to eat those all of the time when I was little.”
We finally arrived at Starbucks.
I went to order and recognized the girl behind the counter.
“Jennifer? What are you doing here?”
She grinned, “I bought it,” she said extending her arms to show she meant the café.
I smiled, “That’s great! Oh, I’m going to miss you though!”
She smiled, “We’ll still hang out.”
I laughed, “Oh, I’m sorry. Christian, this is Jennifer, she used to work with me and Jennifer, this is Christian, he’s… a friend. He might sign with Colter Records.
“He’s cute,” she said to me, in a lowered voice.
He smiled, “Thank You.”
I laughed.
She lowered her voice again, “He’s even cuter in person then on TV.”
He again smiled, “I can hear you.”
Jennifer just smiled.
“A marble macchiato?” she asked me, the line was piling up.
I laughed, “Yep.”
“And what can I get you?” she asked in a joking way, looking at Christian.
“A cappuccino, please.” Ah, his voice was cute; it caught me off guard again.
We tried to pay, but Jennifer refused. “It’s on the house.”
We tried to sit down, but some people recognized Christian. Before long there was Paparazzi everywhere.
There were crowds of people; it was nearly impossible to fight our way through them.
Jennifer ushered us into a back room. She handed us an electronic key. “You guys can use the elevator, wait it out if you want.”
”Thanks Jen, I’m sorry,” I told her.
She shook her head, “Are you kidding, this is great for my business, pictures in magazines of famous people eating here.”
Her Starbucks resided on the bottom floor of a large building. The rest of the building consisted of office space.
We took the elevator to the roof.
We leaned up against a wall, coffee in hand.
“Ok, my turn, favorite animal?” he asked.
And just like that we resumed our game of twenty questions.
After a while I started to shiver, I had on a jacket, but it was cold.
He took of his jacket and handed to me.
“Do you want my jacket?” he asked.
I shook my head, “No, I’m fine.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.” I said. I was freezing though.
He smiled, “Ok, well I’m hot, so I’m just going to set my jacket right here, and if someone takes it that’s fine by me.”
I smiled, and put on his jacket. He put one arm around me. It wasn’t in a weird trying to hit on me way, it was an honest attempt to warm me up. I was grateful, he was warm.
Before we knew it the sun was setting.
“Ok, something embarrassing.” It was my turn to ask the question.
“Um, one time the Paparazzi got in my hotel room and took a picture of me in my boxers. You’re turn.” He said.
I laughed, and put my face in my hands.
“I don’t want to,” I giggled.
“Ah, that sounds good, what is it?”
I shook my head and answered begrudgingly, through giggles, “I had that picture on my wall.”
“No way!” he laughed, “Why?”
“Because you’re cute,” I admitted.
He laughed, “Yeah, well you’re cute, too.”
“Oh yeah?” I laughed, shutting my eyes “What color are my eyes?”
“Blue,” he said quickly, without doubt.
I turned my head and looked at him. He was looking into my eyes.
He didn’t look away, “Most missed childhood memory?”
I smiled, a sad smile, still gazing into his eyes, “My dog. She was a black lab, so pretty, with these floppy lips.”
“What happened to her?” he asked.
“She got hit by a car,” it made me feel a little hollow every time I said that.
He looked sad, “I’m sorry.”
I just shook my head, “That was a long time ago.”
“Did you ever get another one?” he asked.
I shook my head again. “It was when my parents were going through a divorce. Getting me a dog wasn’t priority one on there list.”
His eyes lowered, I knew he was looking at the bruise on my cheek.
“Did you know that guy?” he asked. I shook my head.
I got the chills at the mention of it. I had forgotten about it for the most part.
I looked away.
“He’s still out there.”
“Hey,” he said, “I won’t let him get you, if he comes near you, I’ll kick is ass. I promise. Hey… I promise.”
I looked at him and he caught my gaze. Our eyes locked.
“Favorite song?” he asked slowly.
I was thankful for the change of subject.
“You’ll be in My Heart, by Phil Collins.”
He laughed, “Seriously.”
I smiled, “Absolutely, you don’t like that song?”
He shook his head, “No, no, it’s a good song.”
