Everything was blurry.
It took me a long time to figure out where I was; it felt like I was dreaming.
My head hurt.
The world was slowly coming into focus.
I could hear people talking.
“And what were you two doing out there that time of night, pretty convenient, ay?”
“What were we doing out there that time of night? Dude, were Rock Stars.” The voice emphasized Rock Stars antagonistically, “that’s what we do. We stay out late, we party, and then we trash hotel rooms. Look it up!”
“If it was one of us, why would we have called you?”
“Yeah, crack squad you’ve got here chief.”
Someone grunted, “Need to watch your tone. Go over it for me one more time.”
I heard an exaggerated sigh. “Kay, we were walking, a couple blocks down from our building. We heard some noises; she comes flying out from an alley way. She fell flat on her face; I think someone might have grabbed her foot. Her phone skidded across the street, 911 was already on the line. We checked for a pulse, and then I looked around in the alley. I couldn’t find anyone. Then the ambulance came, we got in, then ended up here, where we’ve been interrogated for the last two hours. Even though it’s not “interrogation” because were not at the station, were “just talking”. Is there another question you’d like to ask, that I’ve already been asked 800 times, so I can answer in the exact same way?”
I opened my eyes. I saw two men in suits with badges, standing across from…
Christian Alexander Housel and Josh Murry?
I was now thoroughly confused.
It was slowly coming back to me.
I was walking, to clear my head. I could hear foot steps. Then I was in an alley, and out of no where there was a guy. It was too dark to see his face. He knew my name. He kept saying my name. Then I was running away. He caught me. I was trying to get away. Then there was just pain and blood, my blood, his blood, blood everywhere. I think I broke his nose. I couldn’t get away. I ran and he caught me, over and over again. It all happened so fast, but it felt like eternity. Then it went black.“You’re up.” A bright nurse exclaimed. It took me a while to recognize she had spoken. “I’ll go get the doctor.”
The detectives were trying to talk to me, but she kicked them out.
The doctor talked to me for a long time. He asked me a lot of questions.
He told me I was ok, but pretty banged up. I was to “take it easy”, for the next week or so.
I had a brace on my arm, but nothing was seriously broken. I had lost a little bit of blood, and had a concussion. I was covered in bruises and scrapes. It would be best if I stayed the night, so they could make sure I was ok, but it would probably be fine for me to leave the hospital tomorrow.
The doctor left and people flooded back into my room. There was a nurse, Christian and Josh.
The detectives weren’t yet allowed to enter. I could hear them mumbling in the hall.
I just stared at the two boys, Christian looked uncomfortable.
It was weird to have him in my hospital room. I think he could sense it.
“Um, hi… you don’t know me… well we met earlier today, barley-” he cut himself off, “I’m Christian.”
Before I could ask what he was doing here, the detectives entered the room.
They asked me what happened. When I told them, my voice was shakier then intended; the room went silent.
They informed me they couldn’t get a hold of my father. I figured as much, he was in Europe.
“Here’s the thing, we are almost certain this was premeditated. This guy could have been stalking you for a while. It is probably not safe for you to go home, especially since you’re house is currently empty. Is there somewhere else you could stay?”
I thought about it for a while, nothing came to mind.
My friends were all counties away for the summer, and my family was split up. My mom lived in LA and my brothers were in Vegas for the time being.
I didn’t want to travel states away over this. I didn’t want to let this one night be such a big deal.
“I could stay in a hotel.”
Both of the detectives shook their heads, “It’s probably not best for you to be alone.”
“Um, I could stay at work. I mean, that would kind of suck, but there are security guards there 24/7.”
Christian was now shaking his head, “She could stay with me. I have plenty of room.”
The detectives now nodded, but I shook my head. “I’m fine you don’t have to do that.”
“That’s actually a decent plan,” the chubbiest detective commented.
“It’s no trouble at all,” Christian said, “It gets really boring at my house, I mean,” he put his hand beside his mouth and whispered, loud enough for everyone to hear, “look who I have to hang out with.”
Josh gave him a dirty look. “You!? Look who I have to hang out with!”
It was playful, neither of them were in the least bit serious.
“That will work fine,” the other detective declared. The conversation was closed. I shut my eyes; it was too much work to fight it.
