His name was December and he was twenty-three years old. Torrents of black curls fell into his icecycle eyes. Tumble was at the beach kneeling in the sand and making a small sandcastle. Tiny pink and purple seashells covered its walls, but the beauty didn't last. The grey waves swept up and the castle was no more. She reminded December of a shell. Small, pink and fragile. Able to be swept up by the waves. He felt the need to protect her.

Tumble did not notice him until he had squated down next to her and began to rebuild the castle. He did not look at her. But he spoke to her.

   "You look like a seashell."

She pretended her wings were wrapped around her small body. A barrier between the two. She couldn't bring herself to look at him. She didn't speak. Only began to help him build.

"My name is December by the way."

Tumble stared at his hands. They were big and ruff, but his fingers were long and agile. He didn't fumble with the shells and sand like she did.

   "Do you have a name?"

She looked at her own small hands. Tumble remembered a sunny afternoon with her mother. When she still spoke. When her mother didn't hate her. She remembered her mother had told her you could tell how sensitive a person was by looking at their hands. Her mothers were smooth and short with lots of freckles. Tumbles were small, pale, and long like her fathers. She was sensitive.

   "Do you even speak?"

Decembers voice reverberated through Tumbles mind. She looked up at him then. His eyes seemed to dig into her. Pulling out her secrets one by one. But they were gentle at the same time. Like something that could make you forget who you were. She tore her gaze from his eyes and began to write in the sand.

My name is Tumble. I was invisible until now.

His eyes crinkled when he smiled. He stood up and looked out to the sea.

"Everybody is invisible. The world is so self-interested that nobody has time to see anybody but themselves. And that makes everyone fake and see through."

Tumble solemnly nodded. She wrote down in the sand again.

Then why can you see me?
