Ring! Ring! Ring!

Travis woke to the sound of his alarm going off.  He cursed quietly and pulled the covers over his head.  Ring! Ring! Ring! The alarm echoed through his ears… and Began to scream in his head. This endless cry, pleading Travis to wake, cried and cried and cried. Ring! Ring! Ring! The thought of school began to haunt him. “Great another day.” He sighed. Ring! The noise filled his head and shook his brain. Ring! He covered his ears in an attempt to end the horrible cries of his alarm. Ring!

“Oh for crying out loud!” He shouted, reaching for his pillow and slamming it on his face forcefully.

Ring! The sound still reached his ears.

“Ughhh!” He thrust the covers up and jumped out of bed. His face went red and he clutched his fist.  He stomped toward his desk where his alarm was.  “SHUT UP!” He growled, brandishing his fist to the alarm.

            The alarm stopped.

He breathed in and put his arm down. “Thank you.” The red drained from his face, and he began to walk back to his bed.

            RING! RING! RING!

“AHHHHH!!!!” he roared swinging his fist at the alarm. The alarm hit the floor, still ringing. Ring… He picked it up and threw it across the room. The alarm hit the wall and exploded and blew up in an array of springs and widgets. Travis stood breathing heavily. “Finally sleep.” He said slumping his shoulders and breathing a sigh of relief. He dragged himself back to his bed and collapsed on his bed, cursing under his breath.

“Travis dear!” cried his mom from the kitchen… Groaning, Travis replied “What?” “Travis, you’re going to be late. Get out of bed.” His mother’s voice seemed to flow through house, like that of a swift yet fragile bird. Flowing up the stairs and up to Travis’ room.

            Travis hated this.

“Ughh. Okay, I’m going.” Travis pulled out of bed once more, crestfallen, and began to dig through a pile of clothing in the middle of his room. Hazes of Purple, Red, and Black, mostly black were tossed from the pile, until Travis found the least wrinkled one. He slipped it on and then pulled on some jeans. Travis put one leg through, and then the other, before realizing it was the same Side of his jeans. CRASH! He lay on the floor shaking his head. “Oh boy.” He got up quickly and this time put his pants on right. He skipped through the landmine of junk around his room, towards his desk.

            “Homework.” He thought.

He searched through the scattered mess on his desk and recovered most of his unfinished homework. Travis grinned, stuffing the homework in his backpack. Zooming to the restroom, Travis slipped on his shoes and stuffed his iPod in his pocket. He ran some gel through his hair and swished some mouthwash in his mouth. He Slipped on his shoes and zipped out of his room, his daily routine.

He slid down the stair rail and entered the kitchen. He grabbed a cold pop tart and put on his iPod.

            BEEP!

Travis looked outside to find the bus impatiently waiting for his arrival. “Bye mom.” He shouted from the doorway. “Bye dear.”

Travis slammed the door and ran down the old stone walkway.  “Hey! Hurry up Travis!” shouted Nathan from an open window.

He stepped up the stairs and onto the bus. Travis stood and scanned the bus, until he found Nate. The bus was like a junkyard. There were wads of paper all over the floor. Pink gum drooped from the roof of the bus and hung there like tree vines. Travis had some difficulty getting to his seat. “Excuse me.” “Pardon me.” “Coming through.” Hey what’s up Kris?” Travis carefully navigated through the bus, trying not to trip over the backpacks and legs that warmed the bus floor. Travis passed Johnny, and his football friends. “Great no problems today.” He said to himself.

            Or at least he thought.

Johnny stuck out his leg, and with one step, Travis was on the floor.

The bus exploded in a hysterical chant of laughter and amusement. Travis lay on the floor, not wanting to get up. “Hey!!!” shouted the bus driver, Travis pulled himself up and looked at the bus driver, and then to Johnny. Johnny sat there with the look of innocence on his face. “I’m sorry Ms. Cones, My foot was out. Travis probably didn’t see it when he was coming down the aisle.” Travis looked at Johnny in disbelief. “Okay, Travis, you need to be more careful.” The bus driver began to focus her attention back to the road.

Travis was even more shocked that the bus driver bought everything Johnny said. Travis gave a deep sigh, and continued walking down the aisle. He reached his seat and sat abruptly in his seat. Nate, sitting across, scooted to the edge of his seat. “That was a pretty rough fall man. Are you okay?” Travis rubbed his elbow. “Don’t worry dude, I’m okay. It’s all good.” Nate looked around; making sure no one was paying attention. “Travis, you’ve got to see this!” Nate reached into his bag, and pulled out his notebook. Travis reached over and grabbed it. He held it in his hands and stared at the sketches that covered the cover of it.

            “What’s it supposed to be?”

“Oh my god Travis! Dude, just look inside.” Said Nate sarcastically. Travis then opened the book to find a drawing of a Cyclops.

“What on earth is this for?” Travis looked at Nate quizzically. “For the Comic dude!” Travis looked even more puzzled. “Remember? We made up this character and everything!” Nate said with fervor. Travis was about to open his mouth to speak, but was interrupted.

“Hey, Travis…” said Johnny a few seats ahead.

Travis and Nate turned in unison. “What do you want Johnny.” Travis spat out. Johnny didn’t even blink. “Travis. Travis. Travis. My friend, I just wanted to tell you to watch where you’re going. Nothing wrong with that is there?” Johnny grinned. Travis usually had covert feelings towards Johnny, but this time he stared back at him distastefully.

“Oh yeah, and Travis, one more thing; don’t look at my girlfriend.” Johnny turned away from him chuckling.

Travis let his head fall. He picked up Nate’s book and began to trace out the drawings on the cover.

Nate saw the crestfallen look on Travis’ face, and elbowed his shoulder. “Don’t let him get to you dude, Johnny may be a the leader of the football team, but he’s an ass, don’t worry about him man.”  Travis sat, quietly, no wanting to listen to Nate. “Travis, don’t worry man. Don’t let anything he says effect you man.” Travis looked up at Nate. “I like your drawing.” Travis handed Nate his book. “Travis, come on dude… Don’t listen to Johnny, he’s an a---.” Nate didn’t finish.

The bus came to a halt, and the bus doors swung open. Travis sat up and focused his attention to the doors. In stepped in Erin, Erin Taylor. Travis followed her as she walked down the aisle gracefully. She had this blonde hair that always seemed to shine, and these blue eyes that reminded Travis of the ocean, or the blue sky. Just the sight of her seemed sanctity to him.  She flipped her hair and smiled that big smile of hers. Just that simple smile lit up a room every time she walked in.

Travis couldn’t stop staring at her. Her beauty was so overwhelming to him.

Then suddenly, she looked at him. She stared into her eyes with her glowing stare.  Travis’ heart melted, and he went red. Erin smiled and continued to walk down the aisle. She stopped at Johnny’s seat.

“Hey babe. Ummm, I’m real sorry, but Seth didn’t have a place to sit.”  Johnny said to Erin. Erin was nothing but demure, and she began questioning Travis. “But Johnny, I’m your girlfriend, it’s real nice that Seth has a place to seat, but where do I sit.”

Johnny still kept that usual mug of his. “I’m sure there’s somewhere you can find back there.” Johnny turned away from her, and continued his conversation with Seth, imperviously.

Erin looked at him in disbelief, and walked down the aisle. All other seats around the bus didn’t seem to be accessible; they all seemed to be occupied by two people.

That is, all the seats but the ones Travis and Nate where sat at. Erin walked up and stopped between them. Erin turned to Nate, “ Excuse me, but is anyone sitting there?” Nate stared to Travis, who had suddenly lit up with Erin’s presence. “No, no one is sitting here, but I’ve got really bad allergies. So I wouldn’t sit here unless you wanted to get sick.” Travis gave a sigh of relief. Nate smiled and looked back to Travis. Erin turned to him as well. “Excuse me, Travis?” Travis sat up, “Yup, that’s me. How can I help you?” Travis asked.

Erin put her hand on his shoulder.

“Can I sit here? Your not sick too are you?” Travis smiled brightly, “Of course you can sit, and I’m not sick.”

Travis moved over, making room for Erin. She sat next to him and smiled. “Thanks.” The way Johnny treated Erin was very distinguishable from the way he treated his friends. He treated her really bad. Johnny only seemed to care about his friends. All these thoughts went through Travis’ head when Erin sat next to him. Sitting next to her made him wonder how someone could treat a girl like Erin so badly.

            It sickened him.

Erin looked at Travis, “So hello.” Travis smiled back. “Ummm hi.” “We don’t talk much do we?” Travis raised his eyebrow, in confusion. “We really don’t talk much at all.”  “Oh, well maybe we should.” Travis smiled and looked Erin in the eyes. “That’s not a bad idea.” Erin smiles even wider and moves closer to Travis. “So, what do you say we start?” “You mean now?” Erin looked at Travis, putting her hand on his shoulder. “Yes now.”

Travis went a little red “Okay. What should we talk about?” “I know! Do you like anyone?” Erin said moving slightly closer. “Maybe.” Said Travis, shrugging. From the corner of his eye, Travis could see Nate giving him a thumbs up. “And who would that be?” Erin asked. “Someone… I don’t talk to them much.” Travis smiled and looked into Erin’s eyes a bit longer. Erin blushed, and leaned in towards him. “Well maybe you should get to know that person.” Travis’ heart began to beat, like the drums of a marching band; A loud thunderous bang every second.

“I’m trying to get to know her.” Said Travis grinning and going red.

“Well your doing pretty good at it.” Said Erin who began to blush. She then moved in a little closer and slid both arms around his neck. “Very good.” Erin closed her eyes, and began to move in for the kill

            The Bus stopped.

Erin opened her eyes and looked at Travis, shocked. From the front the bus driver bellowed, “We’re here!” Erin grabbed her bag and got up, Leaving Travis seated. Travis threw his pack around his back, and got up as well. Erin looked at Travis with this incredible gleam coming from her eyes.

“Wow.” Said Travis, still staring into her eyes.

“What? What is it?” Erin asked, checking herself. “Don’t worry you look fine, It’s just that…” Erin looked up at him. “Just what?” “You have this incredible gleam in you eyes. It looks so bright.” Erin blushed and held her hands together. “Thank you Travis.” Once everyone including Johnny, Erin gave Travis a hug, and looked into his eyes. “That was sweet.” Erin began walking up the aisle, with Travis following behind. Erin Got off the bus and ran to a group of friend waiting by the front.

Travis got off, and almost followed her, but instead walked to the cafeteria.

The day went on as it usually did, no excitement whatsoever. But Travis couldn’t stop thinking about Erin. Walking through the hallway, saw her again, and built up the courage to approach her. “Hey, Erin.” Travis said standing by the lockers. “Hey Travis, what are you up to?” Erin held her books smiling. “Oh nothing. You know, same old, same old.” Erin began to ask him about going to the movies and all these different things. Travis’ smile grew wider and wider, as he got happier and happier.

            Then it happened.

Johnny came through the doors to find Erin and Travis talking at her locker. This infuriated him. Johnny stomped over to them, and slammed his fist into the lockers

“What the hell is this?” questioned Johnny loudly.
