Blane Chapter 8: Pizza Talk
|
*** Friday Night ***
Blane and Dale went in Dale’s car. Blane’s keys got taken away by his father. Blane was driving. He pulled into a parking space on the side of the pizzeria, and turned off the car. Blane could see Dale shaking.
“What’s wrong babe? Why are you shaking?” asked Blane
“What if he doesn’t like me?” asked Dale
“He’ll like you no matter what.” said Blane
“No one likes someone they’ve never met no matter what.” said Dale
“Once you meet him, you’ll realize how ridiculous you sound.” said Blane
“Really?” asked Dale
“Trust me.” said Blane
“Is he in there already?” asked Dale
“I saw his car parked on the other side, so I’m guessing he is.” said Blane
“Okay, let’s go.” said Dale
“Okay”
They walked into the very popular pizzeria, which is actually really large. It had to be large in order to accommodate the crowds of people that flock there every night for their delicious pizza. Blane saw Mike at the opposite end of the restaurant. He had saved the three of them a booth. The couple walked hand in hand to booth. They could feel all of the eyes float to them as they moved through the crowd. When they arrived at the booth, Blane let Dale in first, and then he followed.
“Hey Mike, this is my boyfriend Dale Grant. Dale, this is Mike Brody.” said Blane
“Hey” said Dale
“Hey” said Mike as they shook hands.
“So how have you been?” asked Blane to Mike
“I’ve been good, and I won’t even bother asking you how you’ve been. It’s obvious that you’ve been doing pretty good.” said Mike
“Well, I guess that’s a matter of opinion.” said Blane
“Why what happened?” asked Mike
“He’s just been a little bummed since he had to quit the football tem.” said Dale
“What? Why did you have to quit?” asked Mike
“Well, I didn’t have to quit, no one made me. The team was just a little uncomfortable being in the locker room with them. Even though, they abandoned me, I still consider them friends, and I would never be able to forgive myself if they are so distracted that they loose games, so, I quit on my own account.” said Blane
“Wow, I’m so sorry. I know how much you loved being a part of that team.” said Mike
“I told he should have done that, but he stood his ground.” said Dale
“I agree with Dale, you shouldn’t have done it, but you’ve made your decision. I just wonder what you’re going to do with yourself when school comes.” said Mike
“Oh, well that’s something we’ve been dreading, school.” said Dale
“Why is that?” asked Mike
“Oh, well, let’s just say that we gave everyone quite a show during junior prom a few months ago.” said Blane
“Well, what everyone else thinks of your relationship shouldn’t matter. What should matter is that you care about each other.” said Mike
“That’s easy for you to say, you’re not in a gay relationship.” said Blane
“Yeah, well, you maybe right, but I’m hungry. Can we go up and place our order?” asked Mike
“I’ll go with you.” said Dale
So, Dale and Mike fought through the crowd to get to the line for ordering.
“So, how long have you two been going out?” asked Mike
“Well, I guess you could say it was official the night of our junior prom.” answered Dale
“Why was it unofficial before that?” asked Mike
“Well, there was an attraction that we kind of both acknowledged in our own ways, but like I said we kind just friends until junior prom.” said Dale
“I’m confused.” said Mike
“It’s a complicated situation. You see, we kind of ended up going on an unofficial date to the mall. There, Blane had a falling out with Madison. He said some stuff that was kind of hurtful to me and I freaked and took things way out of proportion. Madison left and so did I. I thought he would run after Madison, but he didn’t, he ran after me; and when he caught up to me, he gave the most romantic, but sexy kiss that I had ever had.”
“Wow” said Mike
“I’m sorry, that probably weirded you out.” said Dale
“No, it wasn’t that. That’s just quite a story, is all.” said Mike
“Yeah, I guess you could say that that moment made us a little bit more than friends, but not quite boyfriends yet.” said Dale
“I think I understand now.” said Mike
“Well, I’m glad that I could clear things up for you.” said Dale
“So, what kind of pizza does Blane like?” asked Mike
“You know what? I don’t really know. I’ve never had pizza with him, but shouldn’t you know. You’re the one who’s known him for seven years.” said Dale
“I think he likes sausage.” said Mike
“Well, I could’ve told you that.” said Dale sarcastically
“Whoa” said Mike
“Sorry, I forget sometimes how sarcastically blunt I am.” said Dale
“That’s okay, I guess it was funny.” said Mike
“I can tone it down a bit.” said Dale
“I don’t want you to do that. You should have to alter yourself for me. If Blane likes you the way you are, that’s enough for me.” said Mike
“Wow, you know I’m so glad that Blane has a friend as good as you to turn to.” said Dale
“Well what about you?” asked Mike
“Well, he needs someone other than me. Things are good with Blane, but I’m not delusional, we’re bound to fight someday, and when that happens, I’ll feel a lot better knowing that he has as good a friend as you to talk to. I mean, I have my friends, but he has you. So, if you care about Blane as much as I do, you will stay friends.” said Dale
“You’re right, I do care about Blane and I have no intention of abandoning him. Especially not now, when his other friends have.” said Mike
Mike and Dale finally ordered after what seemed like waiting forever in line. Dale ordered Blane’s favorite soda, Dr. Pepper. Mike and Dale happened to both love orange soda, so that’s what they got. Dale carried back his and Blane’s drink, and Mike his own. They sat, conversing and waiting for their number to be called.
Once, their pizza was finished, Mike went to retrieve it. They all ate, and had a good time talking about music, movies and the latest trends. Surprisingly to all of them, there wasn’t one awkward moment in their conversation. They stayed long after they finished their pizza, drinking soda and chit chatting.
By the time they decided to leave, the crowd had dwindled by ninety-five percent. The place was almost empty. They walked out laughing, but at the same time sad that the night was over. Mike, although had another engagement.
“So, where are you guys off to?” asked Mike
“Well, I need some rest. We’ve got school on Monday.” said Blane
“Yeah me too.” said Dale
“Oh come one guys, it’s the last weekend of the summer. Live a little.” said Mike
“Why, where are you going?” asked Blane
“There’s this party downtown, I thought I would make an appearance.” said Mike
“Well, I’m not much of partier.” said Dale
“And you know I’m not, Mike” said Blane
“Oh, you guys are no fun, but anyway, see you guy’s next time.” said Mike
