Blane Chapter 4: Post-Coming Out

Creative Created on 5-6-08 Views(19) Story Rating G

After Dale left, Blane went to his room. His parents were still downstairs discussing what to do with Blane. His father wanted to send him to one of those places where they would try to turn Blane straight. His mother, however, didn’t think that that was the answer. Larry, however, wasn’t having any of that. He was going to send his son there no matter what she said. Blane heard his father yelling his view from his room.

Blane was scared. He was so scared that he snuck out of his upstairs window, got into his car, and started driving. All he wanted to do was go see Dale, but it was pretty late, so he didn’t want to call. He ended up calling Mike Brody, his best friend. Mike was always up late, especially on Saturdays.

“Hey Mike.” said Blane

“Hey Blane buddy, it’s been a while, how’ve you been.” said Mike

“Not so good. Are you busy, I need to talk.” said Blane

“No I was actually just on my way home from a party.” said Mike

“It’s still early, was the party dead?” asked Blane

“Yeah, it was pretty whack, so I decided to leave. We could meet at The Coffee Bean if you want.” said Blane

“Oh yeah, the one that’s open twenty-four hours.” said Blane

“Yeah.” said Mike

“Okay, I’ll meet you there in five minutes.” said Blane

“Cool, see you then.” said Mike

** Five Minutes Later **

“So what’s up? You sounded pretty down on the phone earlier.” said Mike

“I have something to tell you, Mike.” said Blane

“Yeah sure what’s up.” said Mike

“How long have we been friends?” asked Blane

“I don’t know since we were like ten; why?” said Mike

“I just, I want to remember all of the good times we had.” said Blane

“Why what’s wrong?” asked Mike

“Nothing it’s just that what I’m about to tell you might make you not want to be friends anymore.” said Blane

“Blane, we’ve been best friends since we were kids. Going to different high schools didn’t even break our friendship. What makes you think that something you say could break our friendship.” said Mike

“Because I’m about to tell you I’m gay.” said Blane

“I know.” said Mike

“You do?” asked Blane

“Yeah, of course I do.” said Mike

“How” asked Blane

“Well, for one, Madison.” said Mike

“What does Madison have to do with it?” asked Blane

“Well, you never even seemed interested in her. You never looked interested in any girl. A guy doesn’t go out with a girl he isn’t interested in unless she was a cover up for something else.” said Mike

“Wow, you’re really observant.” said Blane

“So, you’ve finally admitted it to yourself, huh.” said Mike

“Yeah, I broke up with Maddy, too.” said Blane

“Wow, well is there someone else special in your life right now?” asked Mike

“Well, sort of. There’s this guy who goes to my school. His name is Dale. It isn’t anything official or anything right now, but he is special to me and he’s made it clear that he cares about me, so things could go in the romantic direction I think.” said Blane

“Well, that’s good. At least you have someone that you see everyday to talk to. But I don’t understand one thing.” said Mike

“What?” asked Blane

“Why were you so upset when you called? You weren’t nervous about telling me, you sounded upset not nervous.” asked Mike

“My dad wants to send me away to one of those places where their job is to turn me straight.” said Blane

“Oh, no what are you going to do?” asked Mike

“I don’t think that I have any other choice than to go.” said Blane

“Are you scared?” asked Mike

“Not of going; I’m afraid that if I’m gone long enough, that Dale will forget me.” said Blane

“No he won’t. If he really cares about you, he won’t forget you.” said Mike

“Thanks Mike, you’ve been a really good friend.” said Blane

“Well, so have you and it wouldn’t be right, even if I didn’t know you were gay to shut you out for something that you can’t change.” said Mike

“I should go home before they realize that I’m gone.” said Blane

“Okay, but I want to meet this Dale, guy. If he’s cares about you, he must be a nice guy.” said Mike

“He is, and I’ll ask him if he wants to get together; before my dad ships me off.” said Blane

“Okay, well, bye.” said Mike

Blane, without paying attention to what time it was, called Dale.

“Hello?” said Dale in a groggy voice

“Hey Dale.” said Blane

“Blane?” said Dale

“Yeah.” said Blane

“Do you know what time it is?” asked Dale

“Oh sorry, I just wanted to talk. Can I come over?” asked Blane

“Um sure” said Dale

“I live on Hummingbird Court, the third house on the left. My room is on the first floor. The window is on the side of the house right before the gate to go into the backyard. Tap on the window lightly and I’ll open it when I hear you.” said Dale
